Nothing more than a waste of fuel and giving some one the opportunity to do something like this. Also if this was a civilians car they would give the owner a ticket for leaving it running unattended. That's what they do here. Rule 2 Cops are worthless. Nothing more than crime scene cleaners and money takers with their tickets. Conceal carry and use common sense people. Don't need them.

Second, they have important equipment to run such as laptops, dashboard cameras, license plate readers, lights, siren, radios, etc. Finally, emergency vehicles are usually left running in case an emergency or code 3 call comes in. This way, we can just go quickly and avoid possible situations where our vehicles may not start.

If they had to follow every single law, they would have to stop at stop signs in the middle of a chase or stop at traffic lights on the way to an emergency. This would explain why the first patrol car's door is open and why the detective shouts "Watch out"

The cops are an exception however because it allows them to watch people without them knowing, this allows thieves (like you saw here, but more discreet) to proform tasks they wouldnt do with the cops looking and makes them much easier to catch red handed. It also allows for privacy for riders or subjects.

@uselessjunk1 The reason why civilians are not allowed too much tint is because the officer wants to see what you're doing when he pulls you over. i.e you could be reaching for a gun or hiding something.
