@wojtuniakfrog Those pistols were designed to fire that very same surplus ammo, so yes. The TT-33 has beefy locking lugs so it can fire the submachine spec 7.62 ammo. (loaded to higher pressures). It is next to impossible to tell whether surplus ammo is pistol or submachine gun ammo, though.
it's more powerful than the .380, not by much , but if you load it with some of those corbon's or buffalo bore +p ammo it's real close to 9mm...have carried one for years- just as accurate as my kimber- in fact i got it duracoated and had night sites installed by a gunsmith....1000's of rounds not one misfire or jam...excellent carry gun
True man. I actually like the Makarov pistol, but have never shot one myself. It looks like a nice, compact pistol to carry for self-defense. Most self-defense situations happen within 7-10 yards anyway, so it could probably do some serious damage at those ranges, especially to human flesh.
@serekithegreat The Makarov handgun will not split engine blocks asunder, won't bring down fighter jets and cannot cure the heartbreak of psoriasis. The handgun has sufficient power to incapacitate an adult person.
The 9x18mm round is equivalent to a very light 9mm NATO load. The piece is VERY WELL MADE out of steel and has very nice ergonomics. The piece is not loud and has managable recoil.
I carry a Bulgarian Mak routinely with Critical Defense and FMJ rounds. YMMV.
The Soviet system was an economic clusterf--k . However they could get down to business and design fine firearms. The AK-47 and Makarov are masterpieces of engineering. Good enough, easy to make, easy to maintain and reliable.
Would you recommend this or a Tokarev TT-33?

@wojtuniakfrog I'd take the TT-33. It fires one of the best cartridges ever, in my opinion.

@ThePechanator2 Ok, one more question. Can I fire surplus ammo through a TT-33 or is that bad for it?

Is that pistol powerful ?
serekithegreat 1 year ago
@serekithegreat Not at all. The bullet won't even punch through 2 inches of paper at 10 yards.

I guess I'll stick with my Glock .40, ha-ha. Thanks anyway man.

@serekithegreat It may be a weak round, but it's dead accurate. And for 130 bucks, can't complain.
