Does that mean american bands should not wirte songs baout other people's history? Oh, btw, American War of Independence, the main ally of America was who? Oh yes the French, and their philosophies also infleunced the US constituition and government so...
Paul P. is good but Neil Youngs guitar in this song has an inner tone that you don't find here - a tone of despair and Neil pickin' is kind of hesitating that makes the whole song so affectionate.
Nice points and your Cowgirl in the Sand is fine too. Funny, Southern Man is one song I got sick of after hearing it a dozen or so times. Normal Neil plays everything just perfect. I can listen to Live Rust Powderfinger riffs with Billy Talbot harmonies any day of the week.
Neil Young wrote the song. The best version available anywhere is on Crosby Stills Nash & Young's live double album called "4 Way Street". Its also available on CD but hard to find. Southern Man on 4 way Street is about 11 minutes and rocks. One of my favorite songs and I never get tired of hearing it. Nice guitar work on this version here on YT.
CSN&Y own this song, but without any good quality vid of their performance. This really is an adequate substitute. Paul Personne is a great and accomplished musician. Sadly though not enough French artists get their due. If Paul had been American he'd be World famous now. That's life I guess!
I think keioffice meant the song is Canadian. It's originally done by Neil Young, who is Canadian--it's from After the Gold Rush. Fantastic album and song. This guy does it justice.
What a wonderful version of this classic Young tune! But it ended before it was finished!
@Knightowl2006, as a long standing fan of Southern Rock, I always thought that the skynyrd boys took Neil a little too personally with this song.
And of course anybody can sing any song that appeals to the universality of life!
Les americains and les francaise sont tres bon amis!
Jd, the musicman is right about 4 Way Street, find it , buy it , and own it!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Vocals are flat, dull and patently horrible.
On the plus side, it makes Neil Young sound in tune.
