I like the Carefresh for the areas that are used for the bathroom. My pen is 90% fleece. My garden likes the used Carefresh very much. I find there is little dust. I cannot use a hay basket my three just tear the hay all over the place. They sit in the basket and under the hay and of course defecate on the hay. So I use a homemade hanging hay rack. I think your hay is pretty packed into the rack. Maybe if it were looser and if you pulled some through the holes the pigs would use it more.

if i put a hay basket like that in my guinea pigs' cage, they would just knock it over and let it spill...i find myself spending more money on hay than bedding. by the way, i have 11 guinea pigs but they are all so greedy with the hay, like its their main course.
