The listing fee has been removed and yes, the amount that blizzard gets from the sales DOES certainly increase. The minimum price for putting things up is $1.50, and you can find a chart of the %s that blizzard takes from AH sales on Google. It does rise and it is not flat.
i heard about this, but havent been shure is it true. now i see it is. personaly i think its a GREAT idea. i dont mind if blizzard got rich becouse of this, as long as i can get some buck. i even thinking buying couple copies of game, so i could even "employ" some of my friends without job.
As long as they can keep bots off of this game to keep the ridiculous amount of mass farming that allows to a minimum, this will allow people who play an unhealthy amount of time a little chance at making some extra bucks.
I used to sell phantasy star online blue burst rares for money AND buy items for money. this has interested me in the game but i have pity for all the desperate people who try to desperately try to make money with youtube adsense and things like this. it's not going to work effectively on a large scale to make money i think. like most of the uber rares i got in phantasy star i got by using exploits in the game and would never find on my own so insane value for them was possible aka 25dollarslol
With each currency getting its own auction house, does this mean the item base for each currency is separate?
For example, in a small country like New Zealand, will the auction house only list items by other players who have chosen New Zealand Dollar as their currency?
If this is the case it would really restrict smaller countries with their unique currency as to how many items one could find to buy and how big the market to sell is…
Who knows for sure? Given the problem of people living in small countries (Switzerland came to mind as I read your comment - they`re completely isolated among the neighboring countries with the Euro ;-) -- ... or NZ of course), I could surely imagine they will find some kind of individual player choice for this, for example taking the currency from the third party paying program (Paypal, etc.)
@aethir86 I am still hoping that the 'individual store' is more of a virtual gate where a blizzard based conversion of currency happens but that the item base is global.
So basically a currency picker to display a global database of items in your chosen (converted) currency at all times.
Would be much better I think… only problem might be too many items globally available to filter/find/search effectively.
If character names are not shown... doesn't it mean that, ppl from blizzard can just generate items and sell it for real currency and yet no one will know who sold it?
But are you 100% sure we will be able to cash out the real money for per exemple from paypal? Because I read somewhere else that we wont be able to >.> but it would be pointless and retard if it's would be the case.
Diablo item selling is a big market kiddies, if Blizzard isn't going to take it into their own hands, third party websites will, makes no difference. Obviously those complaining about the real money auction house never played Diablo 2.
One important thing that most people seem to forget or not know about is that if Blizzard isn't going to take this sell items for real money thing into their own hands, other people will. During Diablo 2's cycle (and still today) such sites such as D2legit.com and D2mule.com have done great business selling items to players for real money, and they have been around since 2002...According to freewebsitereports[dot]org, D2legit.com STILL gets 4,863 daily views, which doesn't surprise me.
@keko4321 There will be a listing and final sale fee. When you put an item up it will cost you (just a random figure) .15$ . If that item sells, you will have to pay a final sale fee (which is deducted from what you get for the item) lets pick another number .50$. With the free listings each week you will only have to pay for the final sale fee unless you run out of free listings. Hope that made sense.
i live in canada and if i wanna buy an item for money will it transfer in american dollars? or will my search be only limited to people that sell items for canadian dollars?
im not happy about the real money auction house, i love these sorta games but itll be that much easier for this game to EAT YOUR SOUL!! lifes gonna pass you by yo.
soooo exited for real money auction house!!! i think it will be a great idea but personally im especially happy that ill be making REAL money off a VIDEO GAME!!!
I actually LOVE the fact that Blizz is taking a real world money AH into their own hands. The fact that we can now buy items without the fear of having our accounts shut down because of 3rd party farmers, is one of the best things Blizz can do for the game, and gamers. I think its a win win situation. Its good for Blizz and its good for the player. If it works the way I think it will, It will be another step into the future of gaming. Getting paid to have fun...Hmmm....I like it!!!
Next time actually REVIEW the auction house instead of just spewing company hype. There have been lots of games that don't function as advertised. For instance, GalCiv still has a button on the UI with no function whatsoever.
My only comment is people are going to find one way or another to "make" or "produce" items with trainers or some form of that which is illegal. I just hope Blizzard has taken that into consideration and is working hard against people being able to do that or are watching out for it.
@pasweet90 HC players cant use becuz say if you spend $100 in real world money if gear for your HC character and if your HC character dies you wont be able to get your gear back and you just lost wasted $100
Also, the real money auction house completely favors the wealthy. I know both the rich and less so will have the same opportunities to sell items, but, I speak for myself here, any money I make selling items (if I decide to) I will not want to spend buying more items. I really loath the idea of a real money auction house.
@pauleamon Personally i dont like money even in real world, but this auction house system is gonna be so nice for those hc gamers out there. Think about it, its nothing away from you. And like you said you dont have to use it if you dont like.
And last but not least, this is a good and a fair way for blizzard to collect some money from the players. I really loath the idea of real money subscription, cause you will pay for the time you dont even play.
The problem with the real money auction house is that the vast majority of people are going to be much more reluctant to put rare items into a normal auction house. This will eventually lead to an obsolete auction house with much shitter items than that of the real money auction house.
This is such a perfect system for the Diablo series. I mean, for me and a lot of others, Diablo is all about the loot, and to make the in-game items worth real money just makes the game that much more immersive.
I think it's a smart move by Blizzard. This will help minimize illegal use since you won't need to go the 3rd party route but can go directly through Blizzard.
What worries me is how these things are linked and accessed. What I mean is, in the past if you were the victim of a hacker, then you could get everything back through Blizzard with little trouble.
What if a hacker now gets access to your acc and empties your irl acc or credit card? I assume they have taken precautions..or I hope so ;)
i think this is a smart idea by blizzard. i dont know about the rest of you but joining pug games in D2 and having 50 million spam bots flood your screen with advertisements was more than annoying. this will literally shut down any of those 3rd party sites and make the game much more fun and much more entertaining. this alone will make people want to play the game more.
why put kid gloves on when designing a game like diablo? let them spend a hundred dollars and die. I write that then it dawns on me; ppl would pk them in hopes they get more sales out of them. i just hope its a very satanic, demonic evil game..maybe more so than before...but i keep hearing its all toned down. i'm not saying i'm a skin head satanist, i just like brutally killing demons...who doesnt?
My only worries is that we will end up having too much fees, say we sell an item for a doller, we have (I imagine) a 20 cent selling fee, then paypal fees to recive the money and then again to withdraw. also will it be worth it or are we going to find most, if not all gear selling for pennies every time because no one buys but everyone sells.
Clearly, somebody did learn something from Prohibition. Outlawing an activity does only three things: It places the regulation and execution of the activity directly in the hands of criminals, it exponentially increases the allure of the activity, and it magnifies the value of the activity. This move by Blizzard insures safe, regulated, legal trading in all the ways the players want, with no harm done. +1, Blizzard. Keep innovating.
I dont know about all of you but I THINK THIS IS AUSOME!!! If i am playing a game for hours on end and getting really good at it i have fun. If i am playing a game for hours on end AND MAKING MONEY ALONG THE WAY THAN IM NOT ONLY HAVING FUN, BUT IM MAKING A PROFIT. Ya sure farming for hours on end would be boring, but if im just playing and making money on the side THATS BETTER THAN JUST PLAYING! 7.25/hour at MC Donald's vs. 4.25/hour on D3. think about it.
In my oppinion this is a great way to combat against issues with out-of-game item/currency trading.
And to perhaps gain some extra change as you play.
But! I for one will stay far from the itea for making money with D3 as a source of income.. Because I want to ejoy the game for it's self and not spoiling the game experience by making the game a job. Making the thing you want to do for fun a job completely destroys the fun from it. Completely and utterly.
Great way to take gold farming out of the asian black market and into the hands of the actual players. I'm sure they will be using the listing fees to fund their servers, which keep D3 free to play and the servers running fast. A+ business model, I can see more games following in Blizz's footsteps.
@acyu You make alot of valid points in your posts, however, you are wrong about Blizzard restricting movement of funds to/out of Battle.net accounts. This is 100% not the case in the Diablo 3 RMAH. I've heard the VP of ONline Technology for Blizz mention multiple times that money can at ANY point be moved (for example) into a Paypal Account from Diablo 3. I.E. the player can decide if funds go to Battle.net or to PayPal (or another third party). :)
I think this could be very interesting to see how this works out, i mean at first items may only bought by those willing to spend the real cash, but those selling the items need not share that sort of mind set with the free postings blizz will give, so eventually there will be players that will have a balance and because it is not money they spent there will be no reservations to the notion of spending that balance. Or everyone will be a douche and just get their cash instantly.
@vasili28 they want to play a game without people who buy the best equip with real money...cause guys who use realy money will be stronger and thats nothing about skill
this is going to be chaos! bunch of farmers spamming in trade, lvl 1's running everywhere auctioning spam spam spam spam in in PST lol if you played wow you'll see how annoying this can could be.
@raziel3099 regardless of your opinion, there is an actual market for purchasing items with actual cash. I wouldn't do it personally, but this definitely facilitates it in a more streamlined way.
@tenorman1184 I'm inclined to agree with you. but i still think its better to play through the game to find the items you need. they are in-game, and free.... just takes time to find them.
@uchimion Why would they ban accounts for buying and selling items when they have an auction specially designed exactly for that? You're a fucking idiot.
People who rages about the cash auction house are idiots and are blind...
If Blizzard doesn't incorporate the cash element into the game someone will AND someone always does. And that's a known fact for every single online game out there. Not everyone is the best MFer and they will resort to buy gears with cash. By using the cash auction house they are guaranteed a completely safe transaction without having to resort to 3rd party d3 item sellers which they profit, not blizzard. Think about it
@jray4484 very possible scenario but i'm guessing if they can't sell it for real cash they will sell it for in-game cash and then go back and sell those in-game cash to real money :D
@jray4484 dont forget to include all of the people playing the auction house to buy items at low cost and reselling them for a greater profit. change those numbers to
@jray4484 You underestimate how many people did this in Diablo 2. It's surprising how many gamers will purchase items with real currency just because it's 20, 30 bucks. Then you have the high rollers. You are mistaken, fellow.
@roofcrash When you create a character, you have a choice on level of difficulty and you can choose "hardcore" if you wanted to. It basically means you only have one life, and if you die, the character is automatically deleted.
i wish they woulda went the more d2jsp route vs the straight up auction house and the real money involved is stupid it should b on like an auction house coin base and have the option to purchase auction house coins with real money and then have the option to sell the coins for real money so u can still make real money while it doesnt completely ruin the game
Its the same idea of a card game that profits from controlling the amount of valued cards in the supply. Thus creating gear classes, Blizzard is fully aware of what kind of "selling power" players will have with their items. It will work, Diablo 3 will stay up-to-date and balanced because they will continuously make profit from this system. What's not to like?
This is going to be stupid diablo 3 using real world money. Your going to have tons of people constantly mining for rare gear. This game is gonna be broken. I can already tell. If you play diablo 2 you will know what i am talking about. There is gonna be some dumb ass with 30 SOJ's and selling them for 25 cents to make the market so low for those item that the price will be shitty. Good luck blizzard I can bet you that this auction system will last a good 30 days before its broken.
@pasweet90 i also think its to prevent people from suiciding. incase theres someoen out there that just steal their parent's bank cards and buy $500 worth of items. and die in HC. things can go really bad.
I'm curious to know with 2 currency set up, would it most likely have all the average/shittier gear placed in the gold AH market, and all the best/ultra rare items go into the real money AH market?
its a new system so I'm not gonna judge it yet, but I sure hope they don't put a monthly fee on diablo :(
speculating on the AH in WOW is 1 reason to get ur account locked and baned for 1-2 dayz... i had a LVL1 orc with 20k gold in his pockets, back in the Burning Crusade. I suppose people will do it much more now since its in real money.
tbo, there should be a limit of trades u could do per month or week.
anyway its gonna be fun and more funny to see blizzard not banning poeple for speculating too much.
@Dylan31192 Yes. if they dont find a way to sever The realm of making a living between US and some Communist bastard thats gonna use the money to build a bomb to kill the company idk what the world is coming too.
@Dylan31192 blizzard are geniuses, think about it, these Chinese farmers are unstoppable at WoW and other online games revolving gear and items, this time they say, 'we're not gonna fight you' (except chat spammers and so on) we're gonna USE YOU, the chinese farmers actually benefit blizzard by giving them money (every real cash transaction = more money for blizzard) very ingenious
No, its a nightmare. When more and more people sell their items, the value will drop, making it les profitable. Do you really think that if item selling was forbidden chinese farmers would stop grinding?
@ForceSC2strategy do you know how much the money fee will be to put items on the auction house and about that free auction house fee every week can you so only put a few on sale or till you selling slots are full
People will not longer trade this game, people just gonna auction for real money. Blizzard should had fix the gamble system make it easier to get good item and gold will better more useful.
A whole community of farmers and hackers will prolly jump on this, I assume Blizz is ready for this. I got hacked once on wow and its is really scary.
Everyone needs to quit bitchen :/ This is going to remove a ton of spam. Log into Diablo II right now. Public games are beat up with an insane amount of spam. I'm glad they implemented this. HI5 Blizz.
@TheBFfanboy I'm sure the quote "they don't want you spending loads of money for items for a character which then dies" clears that question up :-) Blizzard doesn't want people to be able to buy things which in unlucky cases are "deactivated" from use.
My prediction: everyone is going to try to sell ALL their half way decent shit for real money at first, making the gold AH low on items, gold AH will go up due to low supply/high demand, items will cost an outrageous amount of gold and no one will buy your shit for real money so you will have to start posting for gold, and eventually they will even out. But mark my words: idiots are going to try to sell EVERYTHING for real money.
gues the biggest problem with this is that there are still hackers out ther that will try to get you battle.net account now when they can get to you money, hope blizzard will solve that problem faster then ever
Was looking forward to playing until i found out about this auction house feature. Just a scheme for blizzard to make more money. Load of shit, it ruins the game and will probably give it a different feel from what it was like to play originally. which was what set it apart from other RPGs.
Everyone whining about being able to buy gear with real money is a moron. Ever heard of d2jsp? That online forum where you can buy forum gold with real money and then buy any gear you want in diablo? Yeah, all they did was put it in the game for us.
i dont mind that it might take me a while to get an item while someone else can just buy it w/o working for it but i hate when i have to deal with them.....i wish there was an option to play anymode but you have to choose if you want the real money or not for that charater
No one will use the gold auction house.. Everyone would rather have real money.. This is a really greedy solution to fixing the issue with third party e-vendors.
Glad I'm playing Hardcore. I enjoy it because it makes the game challenging, but also... no cash auction house.
By the way Force, I get that you're into the cash gold house, and that's cool and all, but it'd be nice if you didn't act like those of us who find it distasteful are slow in the head as you do in some of your other videos.

Completely and utterly.
...I just want to have a good time.
Uinuja 1 month ago
Great way to take gold farming out of the asian black market and into the hands of the actual players. I'm sure they will be using the listing fees to fund their servers, which keep D3 free to play and the servers running fast. A+ business model, I can see more games following in Blizz's footsteps.
AdrianTheCorruptor 1 month ago
@acyu You make alot of valid points in your posts, however, you are wrong about Blizzard restricting movement of funds to/out of Battle.net accounts. This is 100% not the case in the Diablo 3 RMAH. I've heard the VP of ONline Technology for Blizz mention multiple times that money can at ANY point be moved (for example) into a Paypal Account from Diablo 3. I.E. the player can decide if funds go to Battle.net or to PayPal (or another third party). :)
xSayPleasex 1 month ago
I think this could be very interesting to see how this works out, i mean at first items may only bought by those willing to spend the real cash, but those selling the items need not share that sort of mind set with the free postings blizz will give, so eventually there will be players that will have a balance and because it is not money they spent there will be no reservations to the notion of spending that balance. Or everyone will be a douche and just get their cash instantly.

raziel3099 2 months ago
@raziel3099 regardless of your opinion, there is an actual market for purchasing items with actual cash. I wouldn't do it personally, but this definitely facilitates it in a more streamlined way.
tenorman1184 2 months ago
@tenorman1184 I'm inclined to agree with you. but i still think its better to play through the game to find the items you need. they are in-game, and free.... just takes time to find them.

Think about it
burilor 3 months ago 35
By going this route it will FORCE the 3rd party vendors to compete with actual people in the market to sell their items.
Supply and demand people.

It basically means you only have one life, and if you die, the character is automatically deleted.

anithero12221 3 months ago
Its the same idea of a card game that profits from controlling the amount of valued cards in the supply. Thus creating gear classes, Blizzard is fully aware of what kind of "selling power" players will have with their items. It will work, Diablo 3 will stay up-to-date and balanced because they will continuously make profit from this system. What's not to like?
left4teddy 3 months ago
This is going to be stupid diablo 3 using real world money. Your going to have tons of people constantly mining for rare gear. This game is gonna be broken. I can already tell. If you play diablo 2 you will know what i am talking about. There is gonna be some dumb ass with 30 SOJ's and selling them for 25 cents to make the market so low for those item that the price will be shitty. Good luck blizzard I can bet you that this auction system will last a good 30 days before its broken.

I'm curious to know with 2 currency set up, would it most likely have all the average/shittier gear placed in the gold AH market, and all the best/ultra rare items go into the real money AH market?
its a new system so I'm not gonna judge it yet, but I sure hope they don't put a monthly fee on diablo :(
vernonasian 4 months ago
speculating on the AH in WOW is 1 reason to get ur account locked and baned for 1-2 dayz... i had a LVL1 orc with 20k gold in his pockets, back in the Burning Crusade. I suppose people will do it much more now since its in real money.
tbo, there should be a limit of trades u could do per month or week.
anyway its gonna be fun and more funny to see blizzard not banning poeple for speculating too much.

ShikukuWabe 2 months ago
@Dylan31192
No, its a nightmare. When more and more people sell their items, the value will drop, making it les profitable. Do you really think that if item selling was forbidden chinese farmers would stop grinding?

TheBFfanboy 4 months ago
@TheBFfanboy I'm sure the quote "they don't want you spending loads of money for items for a character which then dies" clears that question up :-) Blizzard doesn't want people to be able to buy things which in unlucky cases are "deactivated" from use.

My prediction: everyone is going to try to sell ALL their half way decent shit for real money at first, making the gold AH low on items, gold AH will go up due to low supply/high demand, items will cost an outrageous amount of gold and no one will buy your shit for real money so you will have to start posting for gold, and eventually they will even out. But mark my words: idiots are going to try to sell EVERYTHING for real money.
jmhanson02 4 months ago
gues the biggest problem with this is that there are still hackers out ther that will try to get you battle.net account now when they can get to you money, hope blizzard will solve that problem faster then ever
krillekuk 4 months ago
Was looking forward to playing until i found out about this auction house feature. Just a scheme for blizzard to make more money. Load of shit, it ruins the game and will probably give it a different feel from what it was like to play originally. which was what set it apart from other RPGs.
Dylan31192 4 months ago
Everyone whining about being able to buy gear with real money is a moron. Ever heard of d2jsp? That online forum where you can buy forum gold with real money and then buy any gear you want in diablo? Yeah, all they did was put it in the game for us.
Way to go Blizzard.
