@bddblade There's no "regular" hard-drive. There are basically two kinds of drives: SATA and EIDE/IDE/PATA (they're the same thing). SATA drives utilise a different port to transfer data, allowing for faster transfer speeds, while IDE/PATA drives use a now-obsolete connector. SATA stands for Serial ATA ('serial' is the kind of connector that SATA drives use). PATA stands for Parallel ATA.
Good tutorial, but he forgot to mention that in order to get faster IDE drives like ATA100 and ATA133 to run at their fastest speeds, you need to ensure that you are using a 80-wire IDE cable rather than the older 40-wire type. Using an older 40-pin cable with an ATA133 Ultra ATA drive willl limit its speed to barely half the 133Mhz maximum it supports.
Please, I can install hard drives. I could even format one if I wanted. Never actually done it but tech stuff just comes natural to me. I even applied to Best Buy a year ago.
this only works for PATA drives right?

@MrFox424 Yes, you can do that, just instead of buying an internal hard drive, buy an external hard drive.
