  • I think I'll avoid this road. Was going to take my cycle there, but forget it!

Don't want to wind up a hood ornament.

  • Non-truck drivers don't realize that this driver had no choice once he was on this road. Or rather, his choice is to take both lanes in the twisting turns or let the trailer run off the road and crash into the trees or the mountainside. The trailer always "cheats" to the inside of any turn you make in one of these vehicles, and the only thing a driver can do about that is to drive the tractor wide on the turns.

  • props to the trucker for driving the twisties and the rider for one hand riding but dumb in a way o well ride safe thats what we do if you dont it ignore it

  • You folks should go to West Virginia,if you think this road is something.I've been on roads much worse than U.S.129,with a semi but rarely have encountered folks who drove like they were on a racetrack.Back in the 70's the speed limit was 55 on 129.Then a bunch of yahoos on motorcycles started using it for a racetrack and wrecking all the time. Now it's 25 mph.So who's fault is that.

  • @sugurdadee I've ridden through WV you guys have some insanely good roads without a doubt. That said I have never been on a road quite like the Dragon, not only due to the curves but also due to the fact that most of the corners are on camber. I didn't use the road as a racetrack and I don't think I even touched the line more than a time or two (and that was just stupid I admit, once I was sloppy the second time I saw a turtle in the road) I agree not a racetrack but also not safe for 18 wheeler

  • he's taking up both freaking lanes. on blind turns. IDIOTIC to let truckers stay on these kinds of roads. esp. one like the dragon. yes, bikers and sports car owners take on risks by "pushing" the road, but even someone who wanted to "tour" the road and stay the speed limit would be hugely jeopardized by NO LANES being available for driving......................

  • There is a very simple solution to this, close the road to all traffic.

  • where is this road? i feel the need to take a short cut comin' on and this sounds like a good one.

  • I replied to someone about speed and hugging side if can. This driver did a good job of trying to hug right side of road around curves. I am a trucker myself, sometimes there's no choice but to go these routes, or WE pay for overage, Y u think so many videos of trks on this rd. And truckers have cb's and know if other truck is coming, MOST of these kinds of rds provide areas to slightly pull over as needed to let others by. Biker should of had both hands on bars and not recording. hubby rides!

  • @christyharts Christy, he was absolutely much worse before I started recording. He saw me pull the camera out and slowed way down as well. I filmed for a couple minutes then thought about the fact that I was going to film someones death and put it away - passed him and flagged down a group of oncoming bikes. When I did pass him (i know illegal - I made the call to warn those ahead) he honked at me and flipped me off) - I normally do not ride filming one handed.

  • @christyharts I was told by the locals that there are routes around but they are longer. I maintain that if they want to come through - ok.. but let them have a flagger car ahead warning oncoming vehicles that around the next blind curve there is a semi using both lanes and both shoulders. Why do they require an escort on the expressway but not here? There is a shop at the end that could provide the service. I understand even offered it.

  • @christyharts one other thing - the weekend this was filmed 4 bikers were killed by a truck crossing center. Not idiot sportbikers either.. 2 husband wife teams on goldwings.. truck crossed over and hit both bikes - all 4 dead instantly. go google trucks on the dragon or trucks on the gap. Honestly it's not just the bikes that are in danger. Cars are even more so.. at least a bike can go all the way to the side - a driver is on left side of car no matter how far to right he pulls over.. ouch

  • my 2 cents-- trucker knows this road, coulda shoulda slowed down for blind curves, he got real lucky with no oncoming traffic. if the biker was scared he coulda shoulda slowed down and backed off.i'm suprised the biker didn't pass (like most of them would)

  • @livinintheleftlane one more reply then i quit b4 peeps bury me. But I did see brakes lights before the bad curves.. AND noticed several pull-outs. Us truckers have CB's, on these rds u stay on it. If other trk coming opposite direction, one stops at pull-out to let other by. Trkr's are A LOT more courteous drivers then a lot of peeps driving cars. We do it so DON"T cause a wreck that wld hurt peeps n cars. AND we have to take a course that I think everyone should have to do to get a license.

  • @christyharts first check the name- been there ,doin that- i know the CB helps its not fool proof . here in the hillbilly( WV ) we have to listen for each other but there are still to many fools without a radio or its turned off. I'm not gripin' about the driver with the flatbed because this view doesn't show what that driver can actually see. the crackerhead with the camera admits to being more dangerous than any body else.I agree everyone should hang up,put down the camera and drive safer!!!

  • @livinintheleftlane crackerhead?

  • @livinintheleftlane He did pass.. That's why the video went off.. He turned the video off, passed and then came up on a # of bikes coming towards the truck and warned them,

  • Let me see if I understand, you are closely following an 18 wheeler on a winding road with one hand controlling the motorcycle and the other holding a camera, and your point is the professional driver doesn't belong there?

I think you are more of a danger than he is.

  • @thomabb How many entries did I blow? Did you see me cross center line a single time? Did you see me almost rear end him even once or even get close? No? I don't think you did.. I was riding around 50% or so of my limits - I had a very healthy safety margin.. Speaking of dangers though.. Let's talk danger. That road is almost entirely composed of blind curves - if I mess up 9 times out of 10 it means I am going to go down or off.. Hurting myself or my pocket book. When he comes around a corner?

  • @thomabb I agree. I am a female PROFESSIONAL driver, and sometimes are dispatchers send us down roads like this, believe me. This guy did a good job for how the road is. You can try to hug that side, but the trailer will eventually cross it at the sharp curves. And to record on a motorcycle.. Come on! My husband rides one, I go behind him at times, there is NO WAY he would do that! I would try this road in a tractor/trailer before I would video riding a motorcycle.. hello??

  • @thomabb I never once crossed center. He crossed center every single corner. He crossed over onto oncoming shoulder on a # of corners.. You probably don't know much about motorcycles but let me explain something simple to you.. a 400lb sport bike handles a curvy road slightly better than an 18 wheeler does. Also you do not actually need two hands to operate one. The only control on the left hand is the clutch and no gear changes were required.. Not to mention you can shift up clutchless.

  • @iamnotgreg I ride every day I can. I've been riding for 27 years. Riding with a camera in your hand is on par with driving while talking on the phone. You may think you are not impaired, but you are.

I have also driven 18 wheelers. I will add that if that driver had ever been on that road before and chose to navigate it again, shame on him. But once you are on that road, there ain't nothing you can do but get to the other end.

  • @thomabb I agree it certainly isn't my preferred way of filming. I am on the fence about just how dangerous it was though.. I wasn't looking through the viewfinder and as far as riding with one hand most bikers have done that for thousands of miles.. I was just holding my left hand up rather than hanging it to the side. Preferred? No. Compared to a cell phone? This is my right leg due to a cell phone user stupid youtube wont let me post url even if I chop it up. Messaging you

  • @iamnotgreg Got the pics. You're lucky to be alive. I've been lucky so far - nothing worse than having to lay it down at slow speed to avoid a drunk driver. Be safe.

  • Just to throw in my two cents because I do drive truck and as my name has it I also ride....a sport bike at that..... The trucker is in the wrong.... Not to say that he doesn't care but very bad planning on his part knowing what that route is... Maybe he doesn't care... I dunno just throwing it out there

  • @Bigbusa88 From what I understand it saves quite a bit of travel vs going around. I can understand that.. and I think at minimum a reasonable compromise is to require an escort vehicle. There is a resort at the end of the road that I am sure could provide the service for a nominal fee.

I find it ludicrous that a semi driving down a straight interstate is required to have escorts and tags and flags and lights and all kinds of permits if it is hauling a long or wide load, but this is ok???

  • I'm sure he had a reason for being there...

  • @savagenomore you make a good point - in that case it's a safe place for all involved for them to be on that road without even an escort ahead warning oncoming traffic that there is a vehicle ahead using both lanes and both shoulders @ up to double the posted limit.. Have you ever seen this site? w w w . tailofthedragon. com/dragon_trucks.html

  • @savagenomore Yes I agree. I am a female truck driver. When u r with certain companies, they send you the route to take, if you go over miles, by taking your own, it costs the DRIVER. And yes, taking this road is dangerous, and SLOW speed a YES, and try their best to hug the side as far as can to keep tail-end from going over. My dispatcher took me on hairy route one time. ALSO TRKS HAE CB'S, WE ANNOUNCE CURVES WHEN ON THESE RDS SO OTHERS CAN TRY TO MAKE ROOM IF CAN. RDS USUALLY HAVE PULL-OUTS

  • I think it should be illegal for 18 wheelers to go down that road. And that trucker should be arrested for going so fucking fast around all those blind turns

  • dam if a semi can mess with your riding ability that much i think YOU should be the ones staying off state route 129 ,since its not a restricted route and your not man enough to handle it stay home wanna bees or quit cring about the trucks ,and by the way when it became the dragons tail ,we truckers didnt cry about the bikers ,just to let you know .

  • so what happens when 2 of these stupid lazy fuck truckers meet on a curve going opposite directions?

  • @agbuckle98 "stupid lazy fuck truckers" as opposed to "small-penised faggot cunt bikers"?

  • @agbuckle98 they flip a coin to see who backs up and out of the way or they have a stare down that ends in death...

  • @agbuckle98 they close the gap for a week or so while they try to figure out how they are going to pry them apart?

  • Big trucks should NOT be allowed on this road. There are other roads they could take that would be MUCH safer for everyone!

  • Lets just ban all trucks from turning period.

  • @mahcort61 huh? where do you people come from?

  • Just got done scraping about 7 of you "bikers" up with a spoon and scoop-shovel out here in SD during the Sturgis Bike Rally. You idiots don't need any help killing yourselves. I leave the truckers out of it. We are the only ones looking out for you. Oh, and that number on the back of my trailer, you will reach my cell phone, I just stop and you can try to fire me from my own company. Hehehe, dumb fucking southen fuck.

  • why not put up something that cars and motorcycles can safely pass under but big rigs can not, and set it up for enough from where the tail starts so truck drivers can use an alternate route.

  • This whole rt. 129 thing. I am a truck driver and like most drivers there is a lot of word by mouth and info. on the C.B. about what routes are the best, the easiest or time saving. The only reason my fellow professional drivers would choose to take this route is ignorance. This probably covers 95% of the drivers. The 250 plus times you knowingly off track completely into the other lane just doesn't make sense. There are A-hole's with anything on wheels. This rt. brings out the stupid

  • @johnthegreatdriver Thank you for that. I try to maintain an open mind and I try my best to be flexible. I understand perhaps sometimes rigs do in fact need to get through - and in that case all I would ask (not that it is my place) would be for them to get an escort (perhaps someone from the Deals Gap store) - I don't know the fix but I do know if a vehicle cannot fit without not only crossing center but actually hitting the shoulder on both sides - it does not belong there.

  • @iamnotgreg What the state should do is make it a scenic parkway like the blue-ridge in Virgina. Problem solved. And to those trucks that have to run it. Like you said the should do it with a police escort that the company pays for. This would solve 99% of the headaches Rt. 129 causes

  • No matter what the speed there is no safe way for tractor trailers to take the turns on that road.

  • i know trucks should be banned on the dragon,I drive one myself but when the company routes you that way we have no way knowing what we getting to untill theyare banned on the road it will not stop,i came across there in my 4 wheeler and had bikes running up my ass then back off then do it again then 4 of them pass me on double yellow line in a blind curve 4 wheelers have as much right to be on the road to see all the wonderful sights as ya"ll do so share the road

  • @bubba29th you can use that road when you're driving something decently sized.

There is no pleasure driving through it with 18 wheeler trucks, much less mommy vans. The curves should be solely for motorcyclists in my humble opinion.

  • @bubba29th Bikes have the ability to stay in their lane. trucks to not have the ability to travel this road without crossing into oncoming traffic on blind corners. On a normal highway the require special permits, and escort vehicles when a truck is oversized - on that road any 18 wheeler is "oversized". Is my video posted up on some forum for mentally disabled truckers or something? Incidentally, do you see me crossing center? I was riding one handed and had no problem maintaining my lane.

  • @iamnotgreg There are exceptions for tractor-trailers in most Highway/Traffic Codes that allow them to cross the center line when necessary, as in turns.

  • @iamnotgreg is that you in the truck? I''m a female driver myself and made a few comments on it. I commend you. You hugged the right "shoulder" as close as you could, compared to some I seen. And some of these comments infuriate me b/c they've NEVER probably seen inside a truck, much less take curves and corners, the trlr DOES go over some.. But KUDO's man! good job!

  • @bubba29th are you mentally challenged? The video isn't about bikers ... It happens to be a biker following this truck ... that's it.

This trucker could have killed someone because he should have NEVER been on that road. There are plenty of "no trucks" signs on our roads. I'd bet there isn't one for this road simply because its a US highway ... but common sense tells you ... don't navigate a road where every third corner your trailer is completely blocking the opposite lane.

  • @codypal55 Well - hope any bikers you run over and kill don't have cameras on, you'd be surprised what they can retrieve from one of those cards even if it is smashed. Enjoy pound me in the ass prison buddy. Probably a step up from the normal action you get I imagine though. Have a good day troll

  • @codypal55 You shouldn't be on such roads in the first place bud. No 'buts' or 'ifs' about that. If you were a normal sized vehicle, no prob. If you're an 18-wheeler wide trucker taking up 2 lanes on each and every turn, well.. then we have a problem.

We could also get you fired ;) easily. You know that sticker that says "How am I driving?" heheh.. ^^ how ironic.

Anyhow, stop hating on those who're doing nothing wrong, and threatening the biker public. Good day to you sir. :P

  • On the TN side trucks are now banned. But they still do it anyway. Most see it as a short cut on the map, but will only take that short cut once. I'm a trucker and a rider and there's not a snow balls chance in hell I'll ever drive 129 in the truck.

  • Wow, yeah not a place for semi's, its common sense, at anytime he could have caused a serious crash.

  • In my eyes driving faster then cardrivers with a bike is acceptable, less danger behind you with these cardrivers who think they can drive while listening to music with some cookies and a cellphone ready to show off.

Wreckless driving? Somethimes just like cardrivers but with what risk to you in your cookiebox? Nearly none

Sry you just don't make sense, you shurly don't give a fuck about other people, i know why, your a motorcycle racist! Shame on you.......Peace

  • im a truck driver and a rider i understand that there is no way to turn the corner without crossing the lines and that is exactly the reason they should be banned on those roads. most bikes ride quick to be able to get out of the way of closed minded fuckwit drivers like yourself. "i will freakin run you over"? HOW BOUT A NICE BIG CUP OF SHUT THE FUCK UP MATE..............THINK BEFORE YOU SAY SOMETHING STUPID!

  • Are you kidding?

    Are you a troll?

Or are you really that stupid?

Tell me.. at exactly what speed does one have to be traveling on a motorcycle *not* to be killed or hurt when run over by a semi truck?

  • Incidentally - the speed limit on that section of road..

Does it appear in anyway that the truck is traveling at 30mph?

Someone better tell him that the road is not a racetrack.. as he was going 45-50

Which doesn't sound to fast until you consider it's 50% or greater than that over the speed limit

  • This video has been hosted for about 4 years on google video...

Yes I am holding the camera in my left hand and riding with my right, and yes I have a mount now.

Please leave a comment and or better yet.. Make your voice heard.. Ban trucks at the gap...

The cops are really harsh on any motorcycles there, but seem to turn a blind eye to this.

    That must end.

  • @iamnotgreg rue. most companies dislike their trucks being on the dragon. HOWEVER drivers usually disregard this. hell cops are in so many places here that goin crazy on the bike is damn near impossible
