  • More like David Awesomeborough

  • I wish these deluded religious people would open their eyes and see the world in its own right, not as though life, the past, the present, the future, the universe and other universes, and so on and so forth, is just a science project for "god".

Someone tried converting me once, praying on a forum for me that "god" would help me believe and what-not. Hmm... never.. no wait.. NEVER! going to happen sunshine ;)

  • I like the part when Darwin's statute was moved to the center stage in the Museum of Natural History. It really does Darwin justice with regard to his stupendous contribution in science, sharing the honor he deserved with the likes of Newton, Einstein and Galileo.

  • @yellowlynx good comment RESPECT!!!

  • What a nice documentary!!

  • i like this animation

  • Nature is so brilliant.

"We're all relative." - this word is so warm. I am relative with ants, oceans, trees, air and soil.

  • wow! an amazing documentary!!

  • the better you understand the nature the better you appreciate it

  • great documentary, loved it!

  • got my picture taken next to the darwin statue! huzzah.

  • @Vercingetorix422 lucky!

  • That jamandrew12 lad has lost his marbles if you don't mind me saying :D no seriously he's pretty crazy!!! Talk About fundamentalism!!!

  • Charles Darwin and Wallace are my heroes!!!!!

  • SERIOUSLY?

we can't just enjoy a goddamn documentary.

i bet you couldn't find a youtube video with the tag evolution without a flamewar in the comments

  • I however do not believe that god doesn't exist, and I do believe that a lot of the species in the Galapagos Islands (Isabele, Pinta, Hood islands i think they are spelled right :\) descended from those in South America. I believe in descent from modification, and I do think organisms branched off from each other.

But, if what Darwin says is true, Who created the first organism? That very first, Microscopic organism couldn't have produced itself. Interesting thing to think about :D

  • @bobotttabc123: Why could it not have? (And Darwin never asked that, either.) There are reasons to believe that it did just that, through the characteristics of the molecules making it up. The hypotheses in abiogenesis are making experimental headway; it may be possible in the next 20 to 50 years to produce something that has all the characteristics of life in a test tube from chemical inputs and energy alone.

  • @bobotttabc123 if i had to take a wild stab at your question, i would say minerls came together to form amino acids that over billions of years turned into cells and then cells got more and more complex and so on! but then again where did that minerals come from?! now you have to explain where everthing else came from!!

  • I'm not sure dwarfism agrees with god, seeing that Charles Robert Darwin stated humans evolved from monkeys,

(but monkeys would be extinct if humans developed from them? monkeys are still around today! :O)

If anything chimps are closest to humans. Humans and Chimps share 98.4% of DNA with each other.

But anyway, I heard there was a lot of controversy about wherever what Darwin said was true of false blah blah but its kinda scary if he is right...god doesn't exist...we came from monkeys.

  • @bobotttabc123

No, you misunderstand. We have not evolved from chimpanzees. We share a common ancestor. That is, when the two groups split up, we evolved further on an individual basis. Imagine that a group of equal people walk along the same road, getting the same influences. Then they go separate ways. the monkeys go left and get many new influences, meanwhile what would eventually evolve into humans go right, and become influenced by that environment. We aren't brothers, we're cousins

  • @TheMichaelBB I never said that it's true. I was stating what other people thought. the two sides of the argument.

  • @bobotttabc123: For a grounded view of Darwin's religious beliefs, see wikipedia: Charles Darwin's religious views.

  • bravo nice documetary

  • You paint the chaos, non complexity, random chance so well david, its like a miracle after a miracle. But since its so easy, what life have you created lately? Or are you so completely deluded you actually see an ape in the mirror? God creates------ you lie.

  • if i could choose, who should live forever, i would choose Attenborough! :)

  • David Attenborough could read his shopping list and it would still be absolutely compelling

  • @Freshfroot1 True True

  • The production quality of this documentary is some of the best I've seen.

Good production quality + David Attenborough = Greatness

  • David, David, He's our man, If he can't regale a tale enjoyably NOONE CAN

  • @freeweed haha

  • @freeweed Oh? I'd like to see your comprehensive research that debunks this well-established and proven scientific theory. Lets see it. No? Shutup.

  • @Tyrtamus It's not proven conclusively. if it was, then it wouldn't be a theory. your sentence contradicts itself.

  • @anwarior All you showed me there was that you don't know what "theory" means in the context of "Theory of Evolution." Look it up. Until then, you're simply ignorant of the definition. So don't tell me I'm contradicting myself. You're the one parroting what a creationist website or person told you. Look it up.

  • @anwarior first of all i was nice to you so dont fucking feel big behind a computer. and dont tell me where i get my knowledge from, how do you even know im a creationist, all i did was call you out on an error i thought you made. next why would they call something conclusive like for example the laws of motion, a theory? they dont, because its not. so until darwind THEORY gets promoted dont reply.

  • @anwarior

have you ever heard of quantum mechanics? please explain to me why the "laws" of motion does not apply to subatomic particles?

  • 9.48 aaaw

  • existence is chaos coalescing into increasing complex orders over time.

  • i got tears in my eyes

  • That's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Thank you very much!

  • Because Ape fossils predate us by quite a lot for starters. We have quite a lot of fossils now of many species between us and the apes. Google hominids and you'll find them.

  • @ Sweetashanni

Darwin certainly found no such thing, neither on the Galapagos Islands nor anywhere else. Where did you ever come across such nonsense?

As for how we came to know the exact path of our ancestry, I support eicebleu's advice: Google the word 'hominids'

  • @Sweetashanni : because of the comparison among all primates and the fossil evidence. by DNA evidence, our common ancestors are ape like creatures. Please read more about real science.

  • A) You're either flat out lying or you've been very misinformed because no ape species has ever been found on the Galapagos.

    B) Do you know what a Theory in science is? I'll give you a hint, it's the opposite of a guess, hunch, or speculation.

    C) Humans still are apes, by definition. However, we know that humans came from organisms which perhaps looked more like the other modern day apes because of the story the fossils tell, and because of Embriology.

  • You can't say that apes evolved from us. We weren't around back then and we're still apes.

  • well, we certainly act like it sometimes...

  • > how can we be so sure that apes didn't evolve from us???

That's a really great question. The answer definitive answer is that there is massive DNA evidence that shows exactly what species descends from another; evolution is something that is supported not just by fossils and observations in the lab/wild, but also by advanced analyses of information all the way down on the molecular level (DNA).

There is no scientific theory more supported by evidence than evolution.

    Educate yourself.

  • [Continued]

Humans AND the OTHER apes evolved from a COMMON ancestor.

Besides the massive evidence that supports this fact, we can look at the situation intuitively: Biologically, evolution occurs because of variations in DNA and then natural selection to cull the bad variations; because the most successful variations prevail, it's pretty much always the case that descendants are more successful/refined than their ancestors.

Humans are vastly more successful/refined than other apes.

  • @Sweetashanni: Let's watch that "just a theory" stuff. Even the AiG has determined that that is a bogus argument, a misunderstanding on the part of creationists. See the AiG website, look for arguments not to use.

We do, positively, know that we are a member of the family of Great Apes (Hominidae). The timing is right, the fossil ancestry is right, the genetics is right.

  • all truly fascinating, however, where did this bacteria come from? Who or what created matter, energy?

  • For the theory of how life started--Google Abiogenesis. For where matter, energy, and spacetime came from, look up the Big Bang.

  • > For the theory of how life started--Google Abiogenesis

In my opinion, abiogenesis is still evolution; the laws of the universe cause molecules to form, energy infusion and chance cause variations, and long-lived/replicating molecules are selected.

Evolution by natural selection explains absolutely anything that involves variation and constraints. ANYTHING.

  • Evolution does not deal with big bang cosmology. However, it is not know yet where energy came from (matter is simply a manifestation of energy), or if it has always existed. But to simply use a god of the gaps argument does nothing. In fact, it exponentially (and unnecessarily) complicates the problem.

  • It was amazing to see the tree of life and the natural history of our planet to be summarized in such a short but amazingly narrated few minutes of footage. Sir David Attenborough and Charles Darwins are my favorite.

  • What did they do with the previous statue?

  • goosebumps :D
