I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, ----Deafornot dot c om----, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.
I work with toddlers so I started learning some signing because some of them are having trouble communicating so they get frustrated due to that. I was wondering how do you say run in sign language. What are some basic words that I can start with in my classroom?
Not going to lie... I am 18 learning sign language... and I like these videos the most haha they just help me learn better and teach me actual phrases not just random words.
Next week I meet my boyfriend's deaf parents for the first time. This phrase is especially important to me as I know very little sign language and want to be able to communicate with them directly. Thanks for helping me feel a bit more confident :)
Ummmm, are these videos supposed to be just for kids? Cuz I couldnt sit thru this whole video before I wanted to rip out all my hair... Sorry, just sayin'...
@diddlejam1 With nice you slide our dominant hand once with clean you do it two times..Unless you cleaning a LOT and then you can do it multiple times :)
Im starting some ASL vids on my youtube if ya wanna check em out! Havnt gotten far YET.
I posted a video response. My daughter's favorite part of the video is the "counting time". She loves Hopkins and gets so excited whenever she sees him. Thank you signing time for making learning asl so much fun for the kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ive met quite a few deaf people who can talk. Some simply dont want to and love ASL and are very proud of it. :) It is more popular for people who lost their hearing post-lingual (after they learned to talk) to be able to sill talk. But people who lost their hearing pre-lingual (before speaking) dont usually talk. Also depends on the school they went to and if their family is hearing or deaf. Hope this helped
Also u can check out my page, Im JUST starting some ASL vids. good luck

I learn once in a while, but do not have any friends that are deft or mute, so my brains seems to forget. but like how you explained meet. stuff like that my brain remembers that long term a lot better. Forgive my ignorance, i am able hearing, but i want to learn sign, Is sign not universal? the reason i am asking is i live in Thailand where the deaf are basically thrown to one side, with a minority taught the sign, Is their a difference? please don't think of me as a creep i am trying to bring light into my life by learning this, and also want to speak to those who have no voice other than sign.
@SigningTime It might help to say that there's a lot of "accents" or "dialects" in different ()SLs, even in the same country. That might be kind of a cool way to go - international sign languages. I'm guessing anyone who is about 4-5 right now and speaking will grow up partly multi-lingual because of all the internet culture evolving for kids.
@jellybeanbaby92 American Sign Language was based off of French Sign Language, not British Sign Language, and according to Wikipedia, Irish Sign Language was based off of FSL as well. So they might be similar, but I would find a good online dictionary as well.
