Massachusets is probably the most Democratic state in the country. Martha Coakley ran a horrible campaign and is a horrible lazy person that didn't fight hard to win.
@GeorgiaKev Aren't you on City-Data? Further you are particularly embarrassing. You are the stereotypical Masshole who is too ignorant to realize the faults of the Beacon Hill government. Massachusetts has represented something similar to a third world country with regards to its consistently one party legislative branch. It is a shame because my former home state has so much to offer and offers and excellent quality of life but it is very corrupt.
@JohnRhysMusician If you can find one state or local jurisdiction since the beginning of time that hasn't been corrupt, kindly let me know. As far as "one-party" rule is concerned, what about the southern states which are completely run by the Teapublicans? Talk about third-world status under one-party rule.
@GeorgiaKev Wow. Being from Georgia you should know that Republican rule is a new thing. The first GOP governor elected in 2002 and first GOP house in 2004 since reconstruction. Considering the Southern United States is the most rapidly developing and most economically viable region, being the new manufacturing hub some of those Republicans must be doing something right? I believe that Massachusetts could be better served by more balanced leadership instead of far-left corruption.
@JohnRhysMusician Republican rule is a "new thing?" You've got to be kidding me. The "Democrats" who ran this state for more than a century were not "Democrats", they were DIXIECRATS. A bunch of backwoods rednecks who joined the Democratic Party after the Civil War because of their anger towards Lincoln and the abolition of slavery.
The manufacturing hub is in China and other third-world nations. Georgia, being part of the U.S., has a minimum-wage law that wealthy business owners avoid.
@GeorgiaKev The Dixiecrats pushed the same populist economic policies (tariffs, minimum wages, etc.) that national Democrats did. I am really sorry for your ignorance of history, I am descended from confederate veterans and Dixiecrats, they were not fans of Republican politics. The South has only become more competitive since its economic growth and growing educational attainment.
@JohnRhysMusician The South has progressed because of CIVIL RIGHTS. When southern states were finally forced by the federal government (controlled by Democrats) to end their idiotic policies of segregation and banning evolution from public school curriculum, they learned how to think outside the trailer park. The Republicans began their gradual takeover of the South in 1964 when the CRA was passed. Many pol's remained Dems in name but fully supported GOP policies--like Reagan's tax cuts.
@GeorgiaKev Are you kidding? Civil Rights legislation has not had an economic impact on the South. The 1964 Civil Rights Act was actually greatly opposed by the Democratic caucus. It wasn't until LBJ had closed door meetings with Everett Dirksen and IL R senator to craft legislation that could be passed. Republicans overwhelmingly supported it, while Democrats were split. Republicans first made political inroads in the suburbs, as wealth has increased Republican supports has increased.
@JohnRhysMusician Understood, but as I said before, many people remained "Democrats" in name only. Just because someone is registered as a Democrat or chooses to vote in the Democratic primary doesn't make somebody a liberal. In the last 12 presidential elections, Georgia has only voted Democratic three (3) times (and two of those were for native son Jimmy Carter).
@GeorgiaKev Many of the last 12 presidential elections have been partisan landslides, and most of those Republican, or George Wallace's presidential run. Georgia in particular remained very Democratic at the local level. While those Democrats were socially conservative, they were economic populists, contrary to the Republican fiscal conservatives. The reality is that many social ills in the south are related to demographics. I'm sure you wouldn't say New Hampshire or Colorado are backwards.
@GeorgiaKev ....Yet, Colorado and New Hampshire are only among a handful of states that have more Republicans than Democrats and generally vote Republican.
I'm not mad. I would have been mad if Coakley got in and passed healthcare reform.
In Massachusetts, we already have healthcare reform in place. Why should I have to pay even MORE taxes so that Caribou Maine can have a universal healthcare plan??
We are paying ENOUGH taxes to cover our own healtcare reform, and we are not paying more to support the rest of the country.
Here's a point: Why don't the other states follow our template? The foundation has already been laid...
Shortly after the election , Rachel Madcow claimed on her program that the reason for the loss was that MA voters were out of step with Coakley's message!!
Not to be outdone, Keith Uberman 'logically' concluded on his program that since Scott Brown drives a pick-up, he MUST be a racist!!
Sometimes, I think these two nit-wits are trying to achieve ZERO viewership!
all Americans need to stop voting for Democrats and the Republicans, they are not good for this land of ours. they will never change, we need real people- not talking heads that walk in lock step
Your absolutely correct and I'm with you on that. However, I will take what I can right now and her defeat, and stopping Obamas health disaster bill are steps in the right direction.
Obama to marcia - "get under my bus now!" WH has already blamed her for losing. I am from MA, voted Brown and I got news, the ONLY reason ANYONE in MA was interested in a special election was to work AGAINST Obama, peloser, & hairy red.
My impression was that she ran a crappy campaign, and that democrats are in political disarrays because they aren't bringing passion to their governance.
Yeah now they can blame the Republicans for the death of their corrupt health care bill even though no Democrats were jumping on it willingly as the majority. As Howard Dean said yesterday, "Placing blame is for losers." Did President Obama just blame.......Bush?
Massachusets is probably the most Democratic state in the country. Martha Coakley ran a horrible campaign and is a horrible lazy person that didn't fight hard to win.

Casting my vote for Scott was not only necessary for Mass, but for the entire nation.
Coakley is probably in rehab right now...
