I was a kid at this time and was facinated at watching the record spin. I dont know why, but it was something about watching the actual track "animate" and watching the label spin. Good times, good times.
yeah, this "origanal" is great. but........ there's a very funky swinging version of The Tubes on their "Inside out Outside in" lp/cd featuring lead singer Fee Waybill and guest singer Martha Davis (The Motels). check it out !!!
This recording was a big hit at the time. One can easily assume this record was produced by Motown due to the arrangements. I wonder who was the producer?
junior high, 7th grade, still jammin song. Wow, this music gave me my sexuality, and I used it to the best of my ability. 60th bd comin up, still got it. thanks for the memories and the posting
Damn, that sounds so good on 45 compared to a CD ... it's just a fuller, richer sound that brings back awesome memories of listening to it when it was a hit on AM radio ... KYA in San Francisco.
@10TVMan I totally agree but the single here is a bit slower than the CD recording. This may be because it's played on a machine that runs slower or because it was slowed down originally. The song is in F and this recording is about a half tone under. In any case I prefer it.
This is THE music we used to listen to as teenage Moroccans in the mid 70's and early 80's in the northern city of France called Roubaix. My brother was playing this on the FM local radio (which was still illegal by then) and it became the favorite music in the whole region of Roubaix, Tourcoing (French border cities) and the Belgian surrounding areas. It really was the music of the Young North African immigrants in France and all those aged between 40 and 50 still love it now!!! Nice one!!!
These uptempo R&B recordings were always the best. They kept a smile on my face and a bounce in my step. Recording artists like Major Lance, Stevie Wonder, The Winstons, Chairman of The Board, Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose, Junior Walker, The Temps, Four Tops, Martha & The Vandellas, Tammy Terrell, Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, The Chiffons, Isley Brothers, and SO MANY OTHERS, made music "back in the day" what is was. I am a produce of those day & that music and I'll always be proud of it
I bought this as a reissue 45 in the '80s. Has UM UM UM... on the other side. I couldn't play this without playing both sides. I must have played this a hundred times!
can you hear the difference between this record and this other one..

He died in 1994, at the age of 55, as a result of heart disease in Decatur, Georgia.
Born in Winterville, Mississippi, as a child, Lance relocated to Chicago, attending the same school as Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler.
in 1972, and after returning to the U.S., served a four year prison term for cocaine possession.[2]

Although you didn't mention the name of the School, I know which school you are referring to, because I attended the same school.
