it was finding a Name to play Norma was one of the reasons that killed Sunset, if only they would have allowed more amazing actresses like miss Balgord to play the role then i think it would still be running. truly Miss Balgord is one of the greats, and needs more credit, thank u for posting this video xx
She reminds me a lot- in looks- of Judy Garland. The vulnerability, the small and highlighted features. Does anybody know how tall she is in real life?
LOL... She's no Linda Balgord, but I loved Kathryn Evans as well. Definitely in my top ten Normas!
PS - I'm glad you enjoyed Linda Balgord's performance. She's an amazing actress and singer and it's sad that she was basically swept under the carpet and "excommunicated" by bitchy theatre queens for being a "no name" (whatever the hell that means) actress playing Norma Desmond. Oh, well, people are idiots.
Well, LOL, that's not very fair! Though Linda is the best singer out of them all; Helen Schneider, Christina Grimandi, Elaine Paige and Betty Buckley had great vocals! Though they can't sing in the same key, it's no big loss. And Glenn Close wasn't as bad as people claim. At least, unlike La LuPone, when she sang Norma's power ballads, it didn't seem like her killer mutant adenoids might burst out and murder everyone in the audience.
True, very very true. :) Thanks for posting all of your vid's by the way. Im only just discovering the greatness that is Sunset Boulevard now! I wish I would have sooner!
By the way, be sure to check out more clips of the divine Linda Balgord as Norma... She's among my favorites and is probably one of the best theatrical Normas... Not to mention very underrated!
I and a friend saw Glenn Close when she was Norma and after the show, we met her. I told her how phenomenal her finale was and she thanked me in this......tone. My friend thought she was being rude but I told him she was still in character. she signed my program and thanked me again. Thanks for posting these videos.....it's great to see highlights of the show again. In all the excitement of the first experience, I saw things I missed.
This brings back memories! I worked in one of the PAC's where this version toured back in 96-97. I saw and heard Mr. Bohmer and Ms. Balgord perform it MANY times. What a fabulous version, cast and touring company!
Yeah, too bad RUG now flat out DENIES this touring production ever existed and only acknowledges that Petula Clark/Susan Shulman abomination. *shudders*
Perhaps... Linda's a very exotic beauty, but the make up and wig are not doing her any favours... But I guess it was a "franchise rule" during the first run of the show... Kind of like the brown wig on Christine on "The Phantom of the Opera."
By the way, I thought his Joe was just too smarmy and cocky... Which kind of works against him due to Linda Balgord's softer and more pathetic portrayal of Norma.
i was just getting houseonsunset to correct a little typo he made in the titling of this video. it has since been corrected. btw, when i heard the first us tour was closing, my significant other at the time flew us to chicago for front row center seats because of the whole faye dunaway fiasco we had to endure. let's just say i was a wreck when i heard the tour wouldn't be making it to los angeles.
Well, I'm glad you did get to see it. RUG has pretty much performed "revisionist history" and outright deny this tour ever took place and only the Petula Clark show was the one that travalled across US and Canada.
Ha ha ha....he kind of looks shifty-eyed, as though he's waiting for someone else to walk in. I guess he's panicking about the other guests busting in on them.
i thought Huge Jackman was a bad Joe - but this this joker takes the cake...
I agree this actress is quite good!

@Sampiro Linda Balgord is quite petite and is the sweetest, nicest person you'd hope to meet!

This woman is truly amazing!
Thanks for posting.
By the way, do you have any opinion about the Kathryn Evans performance in UK of Norma Desmond?
Thanks again for a wonderful channel.

she looks a little liky Betty Boop, doesn't she? You think that is intentionally so? But I like the setting very much.
