This man goes waaaay back to the beginning of hip-hop, he's not someone who came along and decided to claim a position, he is definitely a part of creating traditional techniques in multiple genera of dance.

@hypnotic1 I'm afraid you're mistaken my friend. Look in to this mans history and his crew before making such a claim. Just as you did with the history of hip hop. If you do you will find this dance styyle came from the Hip hop movement. Just as Popping and locking came from the funk movement. This style is a product of hip hop itself. Hip hop being as you know made from the 4 elements you mentioned. Any OG's from their respected styles will vouch for this. Rock steady crew/ElectricBoogaloos etc

1-So if it's a culture, wat defines someone being part of the hiphop culture. If Olivia Newton-John started smoking weed, wearing baggy pants, wears a cap backwards, wear a big chain and medallion and started going out with dr dre that change all her music to bein hiphop music cause she's part of the hiphop culture. There must be foundational aspects of the music which makes it hiphop rather than country or rock. What defines "I am music" to being Hiphop fusion. is it the fact common is in it.

@BUDDHASTRETCH68 - So hiphop music is define by having that break. More so than the drums I take it, as all sorts of music has drums. What are your views on the competition "World hiphop International" last one being in vegas. I find 80 - 90 % of the music doesn't even have a "break" in it, and generally is RnB, pop, soul or some form of techno. Would you say techinically they are not hiphop dancers they are more street dancers, or urban or what ever you may call them?

i'll use the terminology they used in the 20's/30's & 40's...to differentiate the schools of thought in dance....the WHHI *dancers*..are "technically" STUDIO hiphop dancers...meaning the style they do is derived from,& learned in a dance studio...where as the style i do,& teach.would be considered the "street",or "club" version...which is where the style is originally derived from....the former is derived from the latter...peace

so all of you guys giving Buddah props also acknowledge that you're not a hip hop dancer. i mean.. buddah just said so himself that there are a few, like him. and I can guess none of u are him or part of mop top elite nor have been there since the beginning. unfortunately i was not even born yet. sucks for me being heavily invested into the hip hop culture where i found my dance come alive..

m8 i think u misunderstood smth here. buddha said that he's a pioneer and there's only a handful o them including himself. Of course nobody here is a PIONEER. IF u know hip hop moves know the culture and you're actually dancing or choreographing to HH music that doesn't mean that you're not hh dancer. I guess buddha would like to check you himself in that case but still you can say that you're HH dancer as long as you know what you're reffering to.

1:14 to 1:30 is ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUE!... Bring back real dancing like: Home Bass, Emerald City, Tunnel, Marquis,Latin Quarters, Union Square, Palladium, Sound Factory, Red Zone, ARENA, The World and where ever there were real "circles" to the clubs-today!

I was moved by seeing Buddha Stretch dance in the Max Party VIII video. However I am "unmoved" hearing this interview. To say that hip hop dance wouldn't BE if it weren't for him is conceded, arrogant, and flat out wrong. True masters have humility and I would advise that Buddha Stretch have some regarding his place in the world and his own skills. Again, I think the man is highly creative, intuitive, connected, and expressive. But, not the total embodiment and originator of hip hop dance.

if you had ANY knowledge on the HISTORY of hiphop as a FREESTYLE dance...you'd know that it was i,who decided to call it HIPHOP in the 1st place....so it's not conceit,it's FACT!no one knew what to call the dance in it's infancy...& bcuz it was ONLY done to hiphop music,INSPIRED BY hiphop music,& became popular bcuz of HIPHOP music...i called it hiphop!

Interesting I'm really stupid gonna ask some lame questions.

Q 1. In this day and age what defines hiphop music?(call me old fashioned but yes Britney spears is pop)

Q 2. If you do contemporary dance or ballet to "hiphop" music are you now a hiphop dancer?

Q 3. If a bboy is breaking to a Salsa track (cause it typically has the same timing as hiphop music) are they breaking or doing salsa?

Q 4.Wasn't buddha in the video dancing to Jazz Funk, and doing styles like Charleston and Lindy hop etc.

Yes but where did the term "Hip-Hop" come from? (in regards to music-- who called the music "Hip-Hop," how did they come up with it.) I know that in '82, Bam made a statement for what he was calling the Hip-Hop movement, and it was called "Planet Rock," which was also a significant record. But so how did the term "Hip-Hop" actually come about? Can't found anyone to clarify this, yet.
