This song was made for Fantasia. I went to see her perform this song in The Color Purple Sunday. She made me cry in a room full of people. I'm only mad that I bought the CD and she wasn't on it. Sometimes artists are just way too filled with raw talent that music producers don't know what to do with and end up getting lost. She hasn't found her niche market yet but I wish her the best. You can't build a fan base that way. It just doesn't work that way. Perfect example of this is the singer Gloria Estefan. She started off as "dance"..then turned adult contemporary. I got to see one of the very last performances of this amazing productio. I was totally unprepared for the presentation. It was absolutely perfect. the commitment the investment that these actors put into their characters showed. It was a very emotional time for me. I was completely florred. i wanted to cry when i saw her in NYC. i think part of it was still shock from actually being in NY for the first time. she was perfect. she acdtually acted and had the voice of celie down pact. i love her but admit i didnt expect to be blown away like i was. that was in Nov. and i can still see her as she first appeared as younger celie. when she has the baby-that scream- i can still hear it. perfect attitude as humble celie and then bold in "Miss Celie's Pants". amazing. unforgettable.

I just checked out the Cellie name Janette on You tube, people where picking favorites. I have seen the Original cast and the show with fantasy. As far as singing Fantasia was the best. I enjoyed both performances but I felt the soul of Fantasia. Another power house was Shug who has a powerful voice and Elisabeth Withers is doing her thing.

Love the show for what is is and support The Color Purple, no matter who is in the play.
