Have had my slate for several months now and every day I grow more attached to it. I have the 128GB model and expanded storage with a class 10 32GB micro SD card since they are going for about
1 per GB these days. I had the dock ordered but really have not felt I would need it. I would highly recommend getting some kind of stand for it ...
For more details please copy the Amazon link below in your browser:
give me sdhc card support, usb3.0, 500gb(minimum) hard drive, esata ports, 7hour(minimum) battery life and hdmi output. Where's the tablet for the pc technicians???
love your reviews im having a tough time on making a choice from the asus ep121 or the samsung series 7 slate im not a photoshop user, i like to run dreamscene for windows for my moving live wallpaper how ever the asus looks better in style but looks can be deciving what do you suggest i go with? is that asus ep121 worth it with the first gen i5 pro also able to run dreamscene well? or am i better off with the samsung
Would you buy this or the Asus Slate EP121? I know this Samsung looks better on paper, but it seems to have lots of hardware problems like flickering screen and loose bezel.
Can you do a gaming video using this tablet? Maybe something casual like Bejeweled 3, Plants Vs Zombies, some RTS games with the pen (Company of Herores), and the usual shooters... L4D, CoD4.
I am buying a tablet pc for an upcoming 12 month backpacking trip, and am trying to debate between this and the Asus Eee Slate. I am an artist, and do lots of writing and will be uploading pictures, videos, music, etc onto the device. Which one would you recommend? Can you get a better drawing program for this guy instead of paint?
@mutchinc Hi, I'm an artist too and I think in your case -- travelling, choose the one with a longer battery life, lighter weight and bigger storage (128GB ssd), which obviously leaning towards the Samsung Slate. I've just ordered mine from amazon for $1299 with a bluetooth keyboard + dock, $10 travelling adapter, a $50 original Series 7 Slate Stand Case to protect your device, $35 ZAGG 'Samsung Series 7 Slate (Maximum) InvisibleSHIELD screen + entire body protector :) Safe trip!
Its kinda funny.. its like a mac lover.. grudgingly giving a windows slate a good review
The presentation is even done with the common Apple background for presentations.
The point they completely miss.. this isnt a tablet ONLY.... this has an i5 and be a tablet AND desktop with a keyboard, docking station and mouse. You can do that with other tablets but you arent running a real OS when you do that - at best you have to remote to a real OS to get work done.
PLEASE ANSWER: I want to get a tablet, should i wait for the next gen tablets or is it ok to buy now and when are the next gen tablets coming? My budget is from 300 to 450 us dollars.
i wonder if you can just save what you have hand written in windows journal as it is, so that when you open the file again you will see your handwriting again???
thanks! i wonder if this tab's price will lower this year?? and can you recommend a good tab that's also running on windows 7.. thanks.=) P.S. im a student..=)
Excellent review. This is how I envisioned tablets to be 2 years ago before the Ipad came out. Its great to see Windows stepping up to the plate. Apple and Google obviously felt that tablets would never be used by anyone seriously and made joke software but this device is an actual computer.
Great vid just for the soul fact that this is the first time she has ever shown her face! I used to think that she wanted to stay unknown because if she gave a bad review, well, the guys at HTC or Amazon would make her "disappear". So bravo on coming out and saying "I'm not afraid!". Lol!
I guess I should have watched the whole review first! BB seems to have fixed hte screen separation issue, so check you Serial numbers! (BA is made in october, BB is made in november, and BC should be made in December)
This is SO MUCH better than any Android tablet software and hardware-wise. Yet it is totally neglected by the big gadget sites. With Windows 8, Microsoft will finally make it into the tablet market.
Another great review!. Thanks Lisa. Full credit to you for coining the term "Androidification of Windows". I am sure we will hear more of that in months/years to come. Microsoft has done such a poor job adapting Windows to the tablet and slate form factors that manufacturers are now adding a layer to mimic the Ipad and Anfroid tablets! Another great example on how Microsoft is missing the boat while Gates and Ballmer are twiddling their thumbs...
@andreasaatte windows has upgraded its touch keyboard in the new windows because i used the windows developer preview (windows 8 developer release). The touch keyboard on the new windows is awesome. When windows 8 comes out, you should check it!
Hi, Lisa. I am seriously thinking about buying a tablet for college, and I will rule windows 7 based tablets out because of the life battery.
I'd like to know if the keyboard (for samsung or any other Android tablets) are effective enough to take down notes fast, for example, in a class. I can´t tell in your reviews if I can do fast and effective typing.
And the last question is If you will be doing sometime in the future reviews on the differents Android OS. Excellent reviews!!
@bludavenknight Look into the Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet. The keyboard folio connects via USB, so no bluetooth lag & it has an optical track point 4 mouse work. It comes with a digitizer so you can write. This is a big deal for people who do any math. I annotate blank PDFs that serve as notebooks and sync with Dropbox. OneNote is better, so I use a Q550 mostly. The Q has the battery life but is a slow computer. Respect the Q's limits and it's an excellent academic tool but not for vids and games.
i hope these get cheaper in future, i want one so bad, my budget for a slate (asus eee slate or samsung series 7) is $600-700 and i believe that tablets (ipad etc) should cost no more than $400 and when I say $400, they should be perfect at that cost not sloppy, i am hoping by 2013-2014 tablets and slates prices will go down a lot, i will see if they are cheap will get one during next year thanksgiving.
That thing has more grun than my 3 year old gaming laptop, in a stupid tiny formfactor. But seriously touch on windows 7, hell no. I'll wait for Windows 8 with similar hardware, i'm sold.
Lisa! You made another fantastic review. :D I like it when you showed your face to your viewers. :) Btw, please do a review on Asus Transformer Prime. I'm excited to know how you find the tablet. :D
Good review Lisa. I don't like this tablet. Windows 7 on a tablet is just not appealing to me. It's too much of anti-tablet OS. Wake me up when they have Windows 8 on a tablet.
we never get the chance to see the samsung 7.7 tablet with super moled... looked really nice but by the time it arrives to the u.s, asus prime is going to eat the whole cake.
@ZeroSection no.. there is no desktop or tablet version.. both are the same.. means that you can do whatever your desktop can do on your tablet.. vice versa.. the live tiles is just a start screen.. you can press start to go to the desktop.. you see, it's a full featured desktop OS.. not just stripped-down mobile version.. whatever you can on windows 7 right now can be done on any windows 8 tablet, plus more..
@ZeroSection Computationally this is a MacBook Air. Build quality is the only question. OneNote w/ stylus is perfect 4 school. Free SkyDrive sync is amazing. Notes taken on tablet are synced to your desktop/laptop(OneNote) and web(Office Web Apps). Share notes w/ 1+ ppl, write or read only. Buy/rent textbooks w/ NookStudy and screen clip stuff into your notes. Record lectures with the built-in mic. Drop PDF handouts into the notes. It will change your life if 5 hour battery life can work for you.
@ZeroSection 7 hours is tough. I'd top off power during the middle class. You give up functionality with a mobile OS. I use a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (2nd best choice for notes) & the digitizer is good, but it just isn't as useful as a windowed OS. When you want to look at more than one thing at a time, you can't. It is the way apps interact with one another that defines the desktop. Looking at one thing is fine on your phone, but it isn't particularly productive. Instant on is nice though.
@HunterThird Hold your finger or the stylus down for about a half second and the contextual menu appears. I think two finger tap may work too. I have a Q550 and was waiting on this to launch. Good job Lisa warning early adopters about the screen issue in the early run. Good job as always.
