vaheguru - to the comment above saying they've only heard this style from namdharis, this is raag - Guru Sahib wrote all bani in raag, as in this is the way Guru Ji wanted the shabad to sound, this is the emotion he wanted attached. but vaheeeguruooooooo Bhai Balbir Singh Ji is amazing
Tell us, whats the secret to getting ur dhamma so base-ey, new dhammas sound flat sometimes, maybe its the skin? or the application of atta but u just get some dhammaz that sound amazing!, does the skin have to be extra tight!
its mostly based on the amount of atta you put, im sure skin makes a differece but not as much. atta application depends on type, amount and how much yuo flatten it into th skin.
Beautiful, I am a great fan of Dhrupad. This Jatha nails it. Tabla is good but I am purely enjoying the vocals. If ony it was tanti saaj instead of harmonium. I had only heard this style from Namdharis before this. WJKKWJKF.
I can't stop watching this. Dhrupad and pakhawaj! What a sight! What jatha is Bhai Baldeep Singh with now? Bhai Balbir Singh has another tabla player with him now.
Dhamma must be linked to Bhai Rattan Singh Ji too then i assume?
Bahadur Singh and co just dont have the damm that Bhai Balbir Singh and his brothers did. He mostly sings Khayals now with the odd chartaal accompanied by Ragbir Singh. With time and enevitable changes, the execution or styles change too.
I was happy Bhai Mohinder wanted a metal one, so he exchanged a new metal for his old wood! In the end I have both, but I would have rather have him in our midst.
There is no comparison - metal with wood, wood all the way for me.
Bhai Balbir Singh has studied khayal and sings a bit of dhrupad. Raghbir is a tabla player with a few pakhawaj compositions he learnt from him. Bhai Balbir's singing was a bit diluted for me, the reason that I couldn't continue even playing occasionally with him.
This event used to be an amazing get-together. Many elderly are gone. The Phakkar clan was there, the Zakhmis, many Darbar Sahib Ragis such as Ravinder and so on...
In fact, yes. For me it was quite a moment then. Balbir Chacha had stopped singing the older genre after Bhai Mohinder's death, and this was the one that brought him back. The first concert without Bhai Mohinder and playing his Dhamma, was at the same time heart-rendering and an honour. His dhamma, more than a century old according to him, is a prized possession of mine.
this is wonderfull kirtan. top ragis sitting on stage. tabla is wow, just awesome. bhai balbir singh ji is one of the best

Whats your take on Dhammas? Metal or wood?
