The important thing to remember is that we evolved alongside these diseases. What is the interplay between host and microbe? That is the first thing that needs to answered. Perhaps we will one day need to incorporate part of its genome into our own. To dispose of such a thing would be very short-sighted.
Yep, it's true: extinguished diseases could happen again and become a new epidemic, if one of those two collections experiences an accident in which some old viruses escape...
ya but they are cells not intelligent aliens plotting and planning, and you never want to close any door sides if we cured it once who said we can't again in the "what if's" you like throwing around.
