Also: she isn't being discriminated because of her skincolour. There are other ways to discriminat people and one of those ways is because of the fact she is a gypsy. If Esmeralda is a gypsy, she's most likely Romanian. However if you read the book she is a French gypsy girl(near the end of the book, it is revealed that her biological mother was a French woman). And if she was a gypsy she was probably of Romanian decent.

Egyptians are white because the United States classifies them as white. The United States classifies "Arabs" as white. Most "Arabs" wouldn't call themselves white. I know plenty to know. And if European influence had anything to do with the color of their skin, it would have occured long before the time of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Well Disney was a Nazi. Esmeralda's skin is dark brown theres a diffrence between brown and tan, tan is like if u see a caucasian walking around the beach that just went under a tanning machine, brown is someone like Beyonce orJay-z but there is nothing tanned about Esmeralda now maybe princess jasmine can be considered tan but esmeralda is way darker than Jasmine and has mor melin in her skin just compare the 2 in pictures to this video.=D

Speaking as an Egyptian...actually Arabs do classify themselves as white. They only consider themselves coloured when they develop as sense of minority ethnic identity in places like the U.S, and that's not even a rule. Additionally, not all Arabs are tan. If Esmeralda is a gypsy, she's most likely Romanian. However if you read the book she is a French gypsy girl(near the end of the book, it is revealed that her biological mother was a French woman). And if she was a gypsy she was probably of Romanian decent.

According to Wikipedia regarding gypsies, she most likely has hindu originas, but most people in the time the movie was set in would have believed gypsies to have originated in Egypt.

well of course it's not a definate source, but it's a good starting point. That particular article is fairly accurate. I checked the info against other sources at a later point, I just didn't have time to deal with all that when I made that first post, and to be fair, you did ask the question with no request for any sources. Exactly. My uncle (yes he's black) has either green or hazel eyes, with a lot of emphasis on the green.
And yes, generally, people with European descent will either tan (and it's really just a light tan, like olive-orange) or burn, in which case they'd be red, and waay too sore to dance.

she shouldn't even be tanned... read the book, she isn't a real gypsy at all. Disney decided to draw her as some kind of oriental girl, with dark skin and green eyes, to make sure that children would understand that she is a gypsy.

Egyptians are white because the United States classifies them as white. The United States classifies "Arabs" as white. Most "Arabs" wouldn't call themselves white. I know plenty to know. And if European influence had anything to do with the color of their skin, it would have occured long before the time of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Well Disney was a Nazi. And gypsies prefered life in the open air, so they would be tanned anyway, no matter where they come from.

Esmeralda's skin is dark brown theres a diffrence between brown and tan, tan is like if u see a caucasian walking around the beach that just went under a tanning machine, brown is someone like Beyonce orJay-z but there is nothing tanned about Esmeralda now maybe princess jasmine can be considered tan but esmeralda is way darker than Jasmine and has mor melin in her skin just compare the 2 in pictures to this video.=D

Speaking as an Egyptian...actually Arabs do classify themselves as white. They only consider themselves coloured when they develop as sense of minority ethnic identity in places like the U.S, and that's not even a rule. Additionally, not all Arabs are tan. I have cousins with flaming red hair and pale skin. And they actually LIVE in Egypt.

Why do I keep having to say this? I didn't say that she or anyone else was tan. Tan is a specific color! I said TANNED. This is something that happens when you are exposed to the SUN. I said that I ASSUMED that a gypsy would be TANNED (please note the ED at the end) because of their outdoor lifestyle!!! And if you further notice, I said that I wasn't arguing about the color of Egyptians, either. I won't be one to say what color someone is. That's not my place.

well i honestly think that america and britain are about as safe/dangerous as each other in regards to terrorism. yes it is terrible and quite scary but we just have to get on with life. I see it as, if the terrorists are making us too scared to live life, then they're winning, really.
