Celine was in her very early 20s...so yes, culturally she DID grow up listening to her as Whitney was already an established and well-to-do singer by the time Celine showed up. When Whitney made it big, started setting standards in both vocals and success, I'm sure Celine looked at Whitney with amazement and started learning from her and wanted to be like her.
