    Keep the good work, Erik!!!!

    You are awesome!!!

  • I like how he gets the echos in the guitar

  • 18 people are deaf on both ears..

  • Soundtrack for The Good, The Bad, The Ugly II.

  • It's amazing to see how guys like him or andy mckee or adam fulara and others have recently open new ways to play the guitar !!

  • sounds like a western

  • what an exceptional talent, dont know why a real majority of people dont turn their thumping shite dance music off and listen to the beautiful sounds of guitar

  • @mental07 it's because the generation today doesnt see things when they hear music like this... and they thnk the digitally edited music is more beautiful... i bet they cant see themselves into some other realm when listening to this

  • Eric sold his soul to the devil!

  • @slugrite

If that's what it takes...Best use of soul right here. My friend recommended him...I am a fan

  • @slugrite

Not at all. The devil sould his soul to erik.

  • @slugrite Or he sold his life to intense practice.

  • @slugrite ...?!!!

    ur kidding?

  • this video should have more views! your amazing!

  • Thank you for posting. Awesome talent.

  • this makes me think of a spanish dance on a lonly plain music is just like that i guess

  • przecudowne

  • Meh

  • Hey guys, I've noticed some of Erik's videos are just in one ear, but you can just put "&fmt=18" at the end of the web address and it will convert to stereo.

  • @jkshoujk Holy cow it worked :D thanks lol

  • @jkshoujk Thanks for the tip.

  • @jkshoujk thats awasome thanks man

  • @jkshoujk haha yeah dude last night i thought my head phones broke, I was so fucking pissed cuz I just bought them lol

  • @jkshoujk That doesn't help any, at least not for this one.

  • I wonder if he improvs to create most of his music and how much time he may have spent in musiccc school...Oh wait...this is the internet..I suppose I could just look it up =P

  • awsome

  • Is the guitar big, or is he small? He's my new favourite guitarist, I checked out all of his videos, I've never seen so much heart put into playing, it's absolutley incredible.

  • i think he may be a dwarf.

  • lol hes not a dwarf ive met him twice and believe me hes not. just not very tall ;)

  • @DistortedBrain it's just a big guitar, it's a rainsong graphite guitar, they're purposely oversized it's the JM1000 i beleive, they do smaller models though.

  • @DistortedBrain ...it's a jumbo guitar you dumb

  • what a fucking beast

  • where is the left canal?

  • @JB4RF Lol I know, kind of takes away from the vid it all being in the right ear

  • this guy is amazing. i just cant stop looking at those nail though XD

  • @wilfredomiguelcastro, i agree, haha...

  • The reverb is purposely done to create a poetic/surreal tone to the song, kungfujellybean =)

  • Sweet tune! Anyone know tuning/have tabs? xD

  • way too much reverb, I can only hear every third note

  • Yep he has quick hands. That is really tough to do that kind of playing.

  • mmmmm a graphite guitar...you could sell that and by my car.

  • wow..

  • Master

  • dude, nice fingernails

  • can you imagine trying to read the tabs for this...lol...this guy is awesome!!

his timing and picking/percussion/sweeping etc is amazing...im no expert but i dont think he is using many chord shapes here..its just his picking etc that adds so many dimensions to this music...people say how lucky these people are but dont realise the work and determination they put in...amazing talent...thanx for post!!

  • this is just beautyful.

  • I feel like commenting on this video because I just listened to the album version of this song. Let me start by saying that this YouTube version of Mongrain's song is one of my favorite songs and I think he's a good guitar player. But the album version of this song is just... bad. Did anyone else listen to it? Am I the only person who prefers the YouTube version? Maybe he had limited time in the official studio and it was a one shot thing and it just didn't work out that day...

  • actually the studio version is longer.

  • Is that big guitar compensating for something?

  • It's almost depressing how good he is.

Sucks I'll never be that good.

  • Just practice and you can

  • i think thats a rainsong guitar

i hear good things about them, and it sounds real nice

    anyway...cool stuff.

  • Exactly. Made of graphite, and a damn expensive guitar!

  • newton faulkner vs erik mongrain IN A GUITAR OFF! who wins?

  • Mongrain for sure. Newton is great though.

  • Haha. Qui c'è del "Ragamuffin" di Michael Hedges.

  • This song is definitely one of my fav's by erik. both this and his cd/album version are phenomenal, but if I had to pick one over the other i'd pick the you tube/video version.

  • i just fall in love with his music

  • Great job!

  • thats a really big radiator, this guy is brilliant

  • amazing guitar player.for me erik and thomas leeb are best in the world

  • Am I the only one to imagining myself travelling in an unknown world alone when i hear this? mysterious/western/deserting....

    542385 / 5

  • @wazabe20011 on a horse with no name, hahaha jk. No, I get that same feeling as well.

  • This guy is one of the best guitar players ive seen in my life probably standing next to Paco de lucia. He is really great

  • How exciting...isn't this exciting. Friggin A man...friggin A. Just Awesome!

  • definitely a reverb but i'm not sure about chorus... think it's just the instrument

  • you guys recon he uses reverb and chorus pedals??????

  • Yeah he uses a reverb unsure about chorus but here is the list of effects equipment he uses.

    8-Band EQ GEB-7. ( Boss )

    Boss Rv-5

    D-Tar Solsctice mixing blender .

    D-Tar Equinox 3-band Parametric EQ/Notch filters.

  • This is definitely a new and interesting style. Too bad he looks like he might be a serial killer by night.

  • Haha you got that right. I think its the fingernails on his right hand...

  • Vraiment pas comme les autres ... il a ce petit quelque chose en plus ... qui font les grands ...

  • wow... simply beautiful music

  • DAMN this is hella nice!!!

5***** for sure/ love the music man

  • Haha I love that smile in the end :)

  • Wow this is amazing, I hope when I grow up into a big strong boy I can be as good as this lol

  • =O Woow .

  • argh post it in stereo...

  • watch in "HQ" (high quality) for stereo sound

  • You know, the very 1st time I heard this, I heard nothing. I thought when he named it "The Silent Fool" he REALLY had the song silent. I then realized my volume was all the way down lol

  • hahaha i did the same thing =D

  • Que maravillaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is perfect. I have heard the best of guitarist. and i just found out that none of them can be called the best.

  • Sort out that sound though

  • if you were gay i would do you even though I'm not gay !!!!!..lol...great man great...

  • me atrevo a compararte con stev vay y satriani

    ere mui bueno...

  • oh my god this is so lovely! erik you're the best inspiration

  • very nice

  • why is all the music going to the right channel only?

  • yeah thats annoying isn't it

  • Could be because...

    guitar = mono output

    recording device = stereo input

He may have done it for effect but I doubt it somehow.

Awesome song through any amount of speakers in any case.

  • Because this music is so awesome, our brains would explode if we heard two channels worth of it.

  • @WhamJamPaco probably standard LINE-IN recording

  • @WhamJamPaco it feels wierd with headphones ):

  • @WhamJamPaco Actually you can hear low notes on the left :)

  • @WhamJamPaco

thanks for rubbing that fact in, i'm deaf in my left ear and didn't even notice, jerk.

  • @stride7860 So... you are deaf in your left ear and didn't notice until that guy posted his comment? Hmmm...

  • Wow, definatly one of the better guitarists out, im glad he got in with Candy Rat.

  • He's not with candyrat.

  • yes he is

  • funnily enough he is

  • I'm learned a few days ago that he is, my most sincere apologies:P

  • haha....

    that smile at the end

  • candy rat should take him in

  • They have

  • this guy is absolutely amazing

  • too much reverber !!!!!!!!

  • The work of a musical genious.

  • *genius.

  • Ok, so you didn't catch the point 'cause I spelled genius wrong.

  • No, I'm just an obnoxious grammar nazi. But you did respond more intelligently to my correction than most people.

  • Yeah, me too, usually. But one cannot hit the nail on the head every time. ;D Hehe.

  • spelled or spelt?

  • one damn genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    freakishly awwsome...

it amazes me to hear him play....

  • genius.........he probably doesnt even know it.

  • Dude it's the original August rush!!!

  • He si cool but you should try looking up "cast in bronze" its an amazing four ton instrument with 35 bells and ONE man playing it.

  • this is so sweet i wish i could play guitar like that!

  • why is this video called the silent fool?

  • because erik decided call it "the silent fool" =D

  • because he wants you to make "the silence fool"! :D

  • hes from another planet

my fuckin god, hes just freakin awesome

  • ..Im still tryin to figure out how he gets some symblance of warmth out of a carbon fibre guitar... all kinds of chorus on this...

  • I don't hear any chorus, but there's a shit ton of reverb. I think that's more for the echo of the notes, though.

I agree the sound is a bit thin, but I think it's from going through an electric out rather than miking up. I've never heard a preamp on an acoustic that sounding anything but thin to my ears.

  • his such an amazing musician!

  • wow this great piece of music but still people hate omg.... honestly why do people do that?? i dont get it i mean come on now we only have a lil time to live here and they have to go on here and hate on a good piece of music like this..WOW

  • i dunno about this carbon fiber Rainsong guitar. sounds pretty nice but very sterile and piezo-ey.

i don't know if I could bond with a gutar that wasn't made of at least some wood...hard to say. looks kinda cool though.

  • where do you buy his album?

  • you can order it from hmv, or download it from his website.

  • its on itunes as well ;)

  • damn! so amazing

  • Imagine what the game guitar hero would look like with one of these song lol

  • you'd have three guitars, three people, all trying to play the same piece lol

  • 69 over here

  • probly cause ur always bitching on youtube =D

  • y r his fingernails so long?????

  • You mean just his right hand, right? These are his finger picks, so the sound is a bit more metallic. You can buy picks in a music store, but why buying when the grow on your hand for free? Besides: Long nails do no mean to be gay!!

Have a nice day over there!

  • oh ok. thanks. they just looked like fingernails to me nd i saw someone else who played the same style music nd he had them too nd i thought they it helped when playing this kind of stuff.

  • Using picks or fingernails or just your finger pads is a totally subjective choice for a musician. It depends on what kind of sound you want to get. A lot of fingerpickers will tell you that it's all up to you - there's no right or wrong way. This artist, Erik, is great. If you dig his videos you should get his album, it's amazing. I'm a punk-rock dude too, but his playing is just amazing. Good luck everyone!

  • oh nd btw. i know what a pick is. lol. ive been playin for about 4 years

  • You're right, it's is impossible to get that crisp attack toeach tone without growing fingernails. It's the same when you play classical guitar, without nails it sounds muffled and sloppy.

  • but then you could play a mix of jazz and folk and get a GROOVY sound out of just the pads on your finger.

  • great guitarist :)

    love the song :)

  • respect!!

    ;)

  • I've listened to this guy's sort of lonely walking sound many times and I love it.

  • stumbled upon this guy by accident. AMAZING!!

  • They definitely broke the mold when they made Erik. Some of the most original sounds I've ever heard in my 50 years of guitar listening.

  • he tends to use a sort of latin soul an rhythm in his music aswell as tone but uses an almost alternative sort of way he caresses his chord an notes.

handle your guitar like how'd you make love to a woman...latin style...

  • this is just beautiful...

  • how the hell did he get those sounds out of the guitar?

  • well, for one: it's not even wood. it's a Rainsong, i think. all carbon fiber, if im right.

  • this guy has taken nearly every sound you can make with a guitar and made it to pure brilliance. He is a genius. Just watching his hands without sound is still amazing. He made that guitar his bitch

  • im thinking you are the fool.really man what is music to you...you can tell just by your comment that you do not play any kind of music yourself

  • It is not often that one gets a floating sensation when listening to music. So I guess this is something far more complicated then a guitar piece for one floats away and is lost within the beautiful harmonics.

  • perfect performance. thats the way handle a guitar!

  • His name is almost mine! O_O Look at my username O_o

  • Hahaha cool!

  • id take the vampire nails and any other shit you could imagine to play like that

  • sounds wounderfull. that's what i think it's all about playing guitar!

  • The acoustics are brilliant!

  • Very beautiful song .. Remind me the asian countrys or something like that

  • Great for my soul. God Bless Erik.
