  • Brad didn't have a Floyd Rose before Ed (who got the 3rd or 4th) but did choose to stay with his 'First run' bridges (the 50 units he made in the garage) as his trick bag -the Tonality of those are notably thin but the Sustain and Trebliness are AMAZING! Ed's 'prototype' went onto that first Star Charvel after '81 and was only used for noise tracking with a higher output pickup, speaking of which Brad's sounds like it's maybe a Custom-Custom(?).

  • what a disgusting guitar tone

  • It's an old Charvel San Dimas with I wanna say custom Duncans and THE original Floyd Rose prototype. Gillis had a floyd before EVH.

  • wow!!! THAT guitar still screams so good??? awesome.

  • lay off the blow.

  • @HawkRock1996 no kidding

  • He may be famous for being in Night Ranger, but his best tone, sound and playing was when he played with Ozzy...Speak of the Devil is my favorite Live album. I have been playing guitar for 26 years and I have not heard a better LIVE sound or tone the Brad's on that album.

  • @tylivia You're right, his sound on that record is to die for! It's real similar to the tone Stryper got in the mid 80's (no laughing!). I was just reading threads about how he got it on some sites online, you're not the only one who liked the sound believe me. Mesa/Boogie all the way live at high speeds! :D

  • @tylivia You are absolutely right! One .Big shoes to fill (Rhoads) I started playing in the 70's. And still use a somewhat Gillis style in my shreds today. he is probbaly one of the most underrated players of all time! I didnt really like Night Ranger much but would find mysel turning up the radio just to hear his solos.

  • your are SSSSSSSIIIIIICCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKK

  • wtf? who is randy rhoads? wth haha some people. im 18 and i know who that badass mother fucker is. randy is one of the greater guitarists in my opinion. but if you love music you dont only have one favorite

  • Dimebag was the king of the guitar, period.

  • who is randy rhoads? brad killlllssssssss and is way cleaner enough said. thats why ozzy hired brad over anyone else...

  • @dorian2112 randy rhoads died... thats why ozzy hired someone else.... respect randy you idiot....

  • @newtroplez ya well we all have our likes.... randy was great but for my likes brads the way to go. im a drummer so what do i know?!?!?

  • @dorian2112 One of the best Guitarist to ever walk the earth ,Rhoads was a Guitar God!

If your a youngster guitarist, d/l "Blizzard of Oz" and "Diary of a Madman" you will never forget never forget Rhoads!

  • Holy shit how have only just found this guy...

  • yeah me too......

  • Hey Metallica1, Speak of the Devil, Ozzy live with Brad Gillis. Killer album. Still listen to it to this day. Keep on rockin'.

  • @LopakaVH One of the greatest all time live albums. Symptom of the Universe grabs you and the album blows you away!

  • Didn't he play with Ozzy?

  • Excellent guitarist. Im surprised he didnt do much after Night Ranger. It was like he fell of the face of the Earth.

  • Gilrock Ranch is a pretty cool guitar solo album by Brad. It's got a couple of vocal tunes on it too.

  • Brad Gillis is still a Beast...

  • ...just a little effect was it?

  • I've always been a Brad Gillis fan, he knows what sounds good

  • That's a badass tone.

  • @EntanglementSatan It's a Soldano, what do you expect......

  • At first I thought it sucked, but that was some pretty badass tapping.

  • actually, the intro to iron man's played by playing an open "E" (low string) and placing your finger behind the nut where the string is wound around and pressing down. But it was close, and I'm sure you could play it like that :)

  • didnt this guy played with Ozzy? plz reply

  • yes he did, he is from nightranger but ozzy picked him up after randy died for a tour, but Jake E Lee replaced him

  • I met Brad years ago in Myrtle Beach SC... 95, I think. He was extremely nice and funny. Worth getting to meet him.

  • He said the hardest job he ever had was stepping into Randy Rhoads shoes till Ozzy could find a permanent replacement.

Guess it would be hard to sit in for a legend like Rhoads!!

  • whats with all the hate on Mr Gillis?? You better have a vid response if you think you can come up with better solos...it aint gonna happen!!!! Gillis Rocks!

  • que chinge su madre el pendejo... en que nos ayuda que salga a presumir..?

pendejo.. mejor que enseñe como hacerlos.

  • That end thing was awesome but for real floyd rose stuff type in Alexi Laiho Whammy Techniques

  • ok. everything he did i've seen somewhere else. to each one's own.

  • Holy shit that's awesome! I'm going to get a new guitar with the floyd rose whammy.

  • WOW!

  • Gilrock Ranch is a great album if you can get hold of it. Brad's solo album. This guy is not the fastes but one of the best. I laugh at his solos because they are so cool and well written or thought out that I know I could never play or write like that. He is a class act. The comment below mine is an idiot.

  • this guy is a real meat head! Dead from the neck up!

  • @cavlovc1 Curious: When's the last time you played with Ozzy or had a song on the radio?

  • hilarious if he popped a string!

  • I was just at a guitar show and Brad Gillis was there. My friends dad got a picture with him. He was amazing.

  • The Speak Of The Devil Ozzy album is just awesome and Brad's playing is incredible!!!

    One of my favorite albums!!!

  • He was Ozzies guitarist after Randy died. Finished out the tour Ozzy was doing. Actually, Ozzy hired another guy first, but it was too overwhelming for him. The large crowds and all

  • I met Brad Gillis and Jeff Watson both back in Dallas in 1987 and they were both very cool.

    Just an awesome guitarist....

You're right rb about his style using the Floyd Rose....he uses it ways that other guys don't do...with vibrato and raising/lowering notes...Love his tone in the video...

  • Many players employ Whammy as a gimick, but it defines Brad Gillis giving a uniqueness because of the many elements he uses to get unusual sonic qualities. Extrordinary guitarist!

  • holy fuck man thats awsome

  • i was right in fukin front of you at the ritz theatre when the album speak of the devil was recorded in nyc man you fukin rocked i was right in the front a night i will never forget

  • he is kick ass
