  • I have lived and worked in Russia on and off over a period of 44 years and I must say that this song evokes in me a past covering decades of a continuous dream evoking the feeling of Russian Romance, of love, of a tinge of sorrow. They all are here. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • The tango is Polish but this particular record is in Russian. I've made a translation for you. Visit themactepad. blogspot. com for the lyrics, since Youtube limits comments to 500 characters. I beg your pardon if it sounds rough. I'm a Russian, English is not my native language =)

  • Back in the 1930s and through 1970s Pjotr Leschenko´s songs were admired by the majority of Russians from Crimea to Kolyma (ot Kryma do Kolymy).

There were also "Samizdat" recordings in the USSR.

Does anyone know the history of "white labels" ["Zaikinskie] 78 p/m schellack records, many with Leshchenko songs, pressed in thousands (?) copies illegally in post WWII (?)USSR?

  • I will direct this question to the person "well informed"...:)

  • Vladimir Zaikin was an Leningrad engineer, who in 1936, with two others was the first in the Soviet Union to transfer music from the movies to records.

Equipment for transfer belonged to the Leningrad Cinema Studious and the records (only music from movies!) were made under the name "Ленкино". Soon an experimental factory was organized , called by some people "Заикинская фабрика", as Vladimir Zaikin became its director.

  • I do not think that P.Leschenko recording were ever produced by this or any other official, government owned company .

There were "Samizdat" records, mainly on the used x-ray film, made by underground enthusiasts. These recordings were called "Музыка на рёбрах".

After the war, Riga's Bellacord factory for few months was pressing records from the old masters, and may be there were few Leschenko's among them.

  • Then, masters with old recordings were send to Moscow and in the 40th - 50th , in the"Дом Звукозаписи", P.Leschenko, K.Sokolsky and other's records were made in quantity of 30 each, for the members of the Soviet Communist Party Politburo!

These records had white label with the song title and the performers name printed on the typewriter individually on every record.

A very informative book - "Тайны Граммафона", was published in 2004 by Gleb Skorohodov, Moscow collector, music expert.

  • Thank you for your help, pan Jurek! Stay healthy and happy and live up to 120.Somehow I believe the number of copies pressed was more than that number. Does any one know? Back in the USSR I had a very small collection of such records. Some labels were blank and on some labels inscriptions were made in ink. Early these records belonged to a prominent medical doctor (vrach). Her son simply gave me these records back in 1963 or 1964.

  • cala rodzina spiewala to i drugie polskie tango po rosisku and po polsku.

teraz Ja tanche Argentinskie tango kilka razu w tygodniu w nowym Yorku.

Keep up the good work .

  • Falling, falling, falling.....fell in love and got lose in polske...

  • I've grieved for her life cut short and for mine for running on for so long with so little in it.

  • I do share...-

  • Aquí, en Buenos Aires, "se me pianta un lagrimón" oyendo este viejo tango, en otro idioma, pero con todo el sentimiento de los porteños. Conmovedor. Muy bueno!

  • Piękna! I melodia, i kobieta! :)

  • piosenka Mieczyslawa Fogga super...lezka sie w oku kreci...

  • LOVE ITS SONG!!! CAN;T STOP PLAYING IT

  • And there you can see "That Lady"...:-)

  • I also love the pictures, they are amazing from an aesthetic point of view.

  • My mother. An artist and a dancer - at that time, which now may make my taste more clear for you.

  • Now, I can understand! Having said that I know Polish people quite well and they all seem to be artistically inclined as well as linguistic.

  • You have a very interesting musical taste. I love music and want to learn more about different styles, countries and times. This sounds perfect. Thanks so much. It is beautiful and very mysterious.

  • Thank you. Your words are the most desired repay.

  • Super

  • Here on two photos you can see Sopot 1932; a 'new' Grand Hotel far away and on the left 'Kasyno', burnt in Winter 1945.

That was there where they met, Mom and Grandma, Wertinsky who had just arrived in Poland (with a new-blond-wife-from-Paris) to make concerts and recordings for Syrena; refugees from a new-born Soviet U. had a nice chat...-

That was also the reason that I selected Russian version.

    Dzięki.

  • nice love the video but why in russian. but there`s a polish version

  • Thanks. Because it seems musically very interesting and is different. I will present here still two Polish tangos in Russian; I want to show their history and what impact on the history they had had. Polish interpretations will be flowing, too...;)

  • Wonderful, bright version. Forces you to do the tango even while sitting.

  • ...still dreaming - a little.

    :-)

  • Many a man regarded her as a charming lady. And I even remember this.

    Thank you.

  • Excellent version of this beautiful song! A light and delightful tenor voice. Thank you as well for the lovely pictures!

  • You know, it was a special moment for me.

Those recordings of Leschenko are full of charm and they are - musically and technicaly - perfect. About 100 in my collection...:-)
