  • couldn't you have just melted the butter/margin and spread it on with a pastry brush??

  • @YouGotThatYou You want the rest of the filling to combine with it when it melts into delicious goodness. That would be difficult when it's already melted into the dough. There wouldn't be as much left for the sugar, etc to absorb.
