  • One of the greatest bands ever

  • good to see a local quarry bank lad doin well for himself....

  • They both have a weird eye slant

  • Check the pins on the interviewer chick at 3.00. Nice tune also ;)

  • I met John Power 2 weeks ago and had an hour conversation about the riots, as well as getting him to sign all my albums + a photo. I had to pinch myself!

  • John Power** (to my top comment)

  • From America, I love The La's.

  • Lee Mavers singing his paean to God. The man was truly blessed (and cursed).

  • Every time I listen to this song I get emotional it's that good one of the best performance I've ever seen because it's pure class!

  • John Power's backing vocal are so chillingly good!

  • still the bollocks of a song, times passed but still gives me the same buzz, conviction.

  • what an awesome song and great performance - BIG FAN!

  • yes

  • flawless vocals

  • Watched Lee Mavers performing this song at Bestival on Thurs night. Still got a great voice. Such a shame the La's didn't get the success or recognition they deserved. If this had been written by Noel Gallagher it would've been hailed a modern day classic

  • WHO can dislike this!?!!

  • John Powers is boss with the back up vocals

  • Harmony at 0:39/40.

  • Wow, Lee is a F'ing genius (had a BIG crush on him, still do), and John's back up, brilliant! This particular performance hits my soul. They were one of my favorite live shows to date, and STILL one of my top 3 albums EVER. His voice live... I've never heard anything like it, CHILLS. Oh Lee, why did you disappear? You've got a gift in songwriting and voice, and it makes me sad that it's been hidden for so long. You can change the world with your music. You're from song heaven. Seriously.

  • Rock en seine festival get the F*ck in there...Lee Mavers Genius...Top Tune

  • Top song heard it years ago during a band break at the Liverpool Uni whilst sitting at the back manufacturing a special cigarette (for a friend of course!) ..can't remember who we were watching at the time but thought I've got to know who and what that is, more than 20 later still listen to it, regular like.. magic

  • beatiful solo by mavers

  • @robertodowneso- and not just The La's either. Fellow Liverpool band, Real People, are on rec ord as influencing Oasis, in a direct fashion.

  • I love their incoherent sentences. The greatest musicians can't interview for their lives!

  • What a song, What a performance. Is it just me or are they backing vocals sensational as well?

  • Interviewster is beautifull. So is the song, damn!

  • thats being done for the love of it,a time when they didnt give a shit about a fast buck,,now all you got to do is.....well what exactly!

  • man i listen to this performance at least 10 times a day its definitely my favorite song right now

  • Such a great band. I swear lee sold his soul to the devil to write songs like he did.

  • now u can see were noel gallegher came from

  • I think Lee used the camera

where as john was a bit shy singing to her

but opened up after a few sec, I also noticed the part where they do a

flying pickets type bit they was dying to laugh lol classic

    vid and Legend

  • sweet song and that bird is real hot.......

  • @telecaster269- this band and so many others took that music,British 60's quality rhythm n blues bands,U.S. 'garage',you mention Jefferson Airplane n that other Liverpool band, and made their own sound.Liverpool n Manchester bands bossed the 80s/90s

  • Mavers is simply the greatest

  • Lovely. Been done 25 years before, though.

  • I love the song, but, who's that sexy girl?

  • how the hell did i not know about these guys? i listen to all the old shit jefferson airplane, the beatles ect, trippy shit no?

  • Love this song, done my own cover of it, not that good but would appreciate if people would check it out :)

  • Youth and talent out in the clear, and wide open... God, how invigorating.

  • I feel cheated because this is a great song/band and radio only played there she goes again.

  • Amazing... could have been the 80's Lennon n McCartney.... nothing worse than wasted talent

  • Oh the irony :)

  • Great song! Beautiful lyrics

  • i noticed above there are 3 dislike , obvs no taste in music

  • if you play this song backwards it say's "kill the stupid bitch interviewer"!!??? if it doesn't im sure thats what lee was thinking! a great tallent is singing infront of her and i have the feeling that it's like reading war and peace to a dog!!! pointless....

  • feels like a folk song. just beautiful.

  • I love this! Thanks for posting. I love how he sings the guitar solo.

  • never forgotten.timeless melody timeless memories.music needs to get back to this

  • liverpooooool!

  • So talented. A tragedy they couldn't do more.

  • I love the irony of this song

  • I'm from Manchester and love these S.O.B.'s. Anyone who disagrees can suck a fart out of my arse. John Power is a fucking legend.

  • Real interestin style o singin' he has

  • longbrowncurlyteeth4 what a fuckin no mark haha!!!

  • @longbrowncurlyteeth4

Yeah I know man, oh wait aren't the la's one of the most influential bands for professional musicians, yeah, yeah they are. Wind your neck in you wopper

  • @mediageneration65 Have u checked out what America are daring to say about the La's? If u look at fans of Pearl Jam's cover of Timeless Meldoy, their comments patronise fuck out off our genius Lee Mavers. I've had about 7-8 goes at them. So, please do me a favour, and let them know they're talking absolute shite. Your support will be appreciated greatly,'cause the US have no idea what Maver's is like i.e. a fucking one-off genius, even if he only wrote one album. The US think Vedder is God, ffs

  • @MrGoogsy29 To be fair Vedder is a genius, the LAs versin is obviously better and they are just paying tribute to it.

That said, Vedders back catalogue is far more substantial than Mavers', who will be rememered as little more than a 'could've been', which is a shame.

  • @longbrowncurlyteeth4

shurup ya blert ill end you

  • fucking awesome. The perfect song.

  • Pure class better than oasis but never got the big break down to mavers stubornish. I love the la's

  • The guitars there using are Tokai Cats Eyes

  • @lmavlen1313

    Thank you! Awesome guitar!

At least their not robbing houses while their making that racket.

  • Comment removed

  • @scouserjeff just ignore him mate, he obviously failed the education system lol..

  • Spectacular performance from mavers

  • unbelievable.... they just had that little something extra.... its a real shame they never broke as huge as their music deserved.

  • Shades of the Canadian band the Skydiggers.

  • ha, mavers looks nails. top performance this. world class

  • Just awesom, only discoverd this the other day and have not stpped playing it. I was born in 1990 so never got to experience them, better lat than never though. They are from Liverpool so of course they are awesom, shame Eddie Vedder said they were from Manchester in his live version :/

  • That's Erica Em. Must be on Canadian tv. Greatest band that never was

  • where can i download this song in acoustic??

    i like this version

  • Mavers looks like a scouse Bruce Lee.

  • WHEre can i download dis?

  • What year was this?

  • I loved thier candor on that retarded question. "We are what we are and do what we do."

    Good music knows no boundries.

  • Just pure talent these boys

  • same with me cant stop watchin this its fuckin brilliant!

  • Look at Powers laughing when Lee ad libs the guitar solo. Mavers is out there! Great songwriter!

  • fookin brilllllliiiiiiiaaaaaaaaaaannnt...

dont know weather its just his nature but John Powers seems a bit stoned...

  • I cant stop watching this

  • Yeah, much prefer this the original one

  • best performance of this track?

  • definitely..mavers' voice sounds superb in this ;)

  • go ed lee and the other lad, true genius, i know ye through paul tommo tremendous

  • love the la's

  • and at 1:29, i think that may be the best D chord ive ever heard

  • whats so good about it?

  • i dunno it just sounds so good

  • get a life

  • wow rally acoustic guitars? i didnt notice. i meant what brand, seagull? martin? what la?

  • Possibly one a d best tunes ever, writers block my balls he just hates all the bollicks that goes with the music industry, and he is right we need more genuises like him a rebel without a cause

  • if you ever listen to interviews with mavers he says all of his songs are quote..

"Coming from a different dimension and we need to harness it in a material net, it's all a natural aerial, its the soul speaking".

whatever that means, it means at least that much to him. Bona fide genius. i'm on my way to liverpool to play in any open mich night, im playing la's

  • Liverpool - best city in the world!

  • @bigdunk9 Well said mate....

  • best city, yeah! shittest city council though...

  • anyone know the guitars they are playing with?

  • ain't about the wood, it's who's chopping it.

  • @therealDanHeinlein

    Acoustic :D haha

  • i always liked cast as a band! they were always very clever and power is a gifted songwriter but when i see stuff like this your eyes are always trained on mavers! thats the x-factor in my eyes, not these manufactured gimps! he truely is the real deal! come back lee!!!!

  • This is awesome!!!!

  • Effortless talent.

  • If everyone on the planet listend to this song every morning, the world would be a better, more peaceful place. A truly captivating performance from a true legend. Lee Mavis's lyrics are a masterpiece.

  • @RayFinkle88

Maver's is truly a great musician. Can't believe they didn't get huge. But I just thank God that He put these music men before us.

  • @RayFinkle88 Lee Mavis? LOL

  • much music haha, i didn't think they were even this old

  • the melody always finds me

  • fags trying to temper the rhetoric,... sounds so dangerous to the gov. sparklehorse.

  • amazing!x

  • really good song

  • if we could only make that big haired interviewer disappear.....

  • Pretty, pretty music.

  • this is the dogs bollocks

  • Mavers' talent is unbelievable

  • this is perfection.

  • Awesome

  • Thats a great bit of Las there La

  • hi truenorth10-the band do get 2 gether from time 2 time.john power got his own thing goin on,must check his stuff out,.not sure what lee mavers doing.with that talent he wont b workin at tesco.think he an john r true friends.

  • Sorry, I've only just stumbled across this. What happened to this band?

  • didnt realise how great lee's voice is live .saw john power 3 times-what a team they were..evo,,,cannock staffs

  • boss!

  • Mavers voice is absolutely chilling here, gives your goosebumps. Great live performance.

  • Such a beautifull song......and Mavers- it's just pouring out of him- flowing through him.........mesmerising

What does Powers say during the intro? ("Hard to stop me now?!!)

Can't even begin to get my head around what Mavers is playing on the guitar! Weird tuning maybe? The chord shapes are random too....and the thumb/middle finger trills....he's such a great guitar player !

Powers' bv's are only out once- beginning last verse.......he's just not concentrating- laughing at Lee's sung solo !

  • John says " How much time did you get? "

  • its actually pretty simple, just tune your low E string to your D. then match the others strings to the E. Itll take some fiddling with the strings to match their tuning. then after that its a simple A, E, G, D variation. then on the "If You look..." bit of the song, its A, then D with a changing G

  • tune and a half !

  • power's backing is crap here.

  • i agree, but its good in a strange funny way, theres another version of this video with a BRILLIANT interview at the start... so good

  • this man is so intense.

  • it still makes me sick to this very day that lee mavers could'nt keep his shit together and make a 2nd album because it would have been better than the 1st.Has anyone heard the kitchen tapes they were out of this world.

  • This is even better than the album version. One of the best live performances ever.

  • Genius!!!

  • rastafarievers, I've got a funny feeling that the cranberries stole that hook for one of their songs. The La's versus The Cranberries....One album from the La's rapes anything The Cranberries ever did.

  • go on lee fuckin tune and half this.this is way better than the album version=classic.

  • feck aye

  • the word "genius'"........ springs to kind.

  • the word "epic" springs to mind.

  • "Melody finds me?" Well? Fucking yes; it fucking does. Cheers.

  • i love his rough voice. u dont get voices like tht anymore

  • Such a shame these guys didn't conquer the musical world. So much better than most of the new stuff thats out at the moment.

  • fuck man this song is the best

  • Man that voice just hits you and knocks you into another place

  • you lot heard the Kitchen tape?

  • between the kitchen tape n the crescent tape theres a boss album ready to be recorded and there must be other songs we havn't heard fukin shame he can't get it together.

  • This is so good, it hurts me.

  • Another great band to come out of liverpool. Better than anything manchesters created anyway!

  • ouch...what about the smiths????

  • It's cool to see how many other folks dig it. Thanks are due to the person who posted this video. By the way, I thought I ought to say "Gooble goo goo gobble goo goo" even though it's not really relevant.

  • Amazing song... the harmonies on this are fucking ace. Lee Mavers and John Power two legends.

Lee's vocals of the guitar solo!!! fucking top!

  • This should be the national anthem of the world.

  • nice one!

  • ditto

  • Agreed mate :D.

  • One of the best acoustic versions of a song ever performed.

  • why only one album?

  • This is the greatest song of ALL time. Better than There she Goes IMHO

    Say skin up ye bastards

Maver a bons fide genius - get the new sogs out lad........any new band should take a lesson

  • powerfull vocals one of the biggest underated bands ever to come from the north west 10/10 SKIN UP YER BASTARDS STHELENSMODS

  • Top of the world them vocals, singing a classic, ashame we can't hear more from pure talent like that.

  • It's a shame they had such an idiot to interview them. She's an absolute moron. I'd expect nothing more from Barbie interviewing Tolstoy.

  • she is buff!

  • They all are!

  • "expect nothing more from Barbie interviewing Tolstoy."

I hope you aren't saying that a pretty woman cannot be smart.

  • no... just that a dumb girl can't be smart. and this band is way beyond the interviewer... talent that is.

  • clarification appreciated :)
