They are legends and I had to make up my mind 30 years ago who I liked better out of them and Black Sabbath.. I sat there dazed and confused.After a few days and had to tell my Led Zep boyfriend "who" I chose (it was in fun and his curiosity) I chose Black Sabbath but I have even a bootleg of Led Zep and know they are legends. I think some young people do it or religous people thinking some bands are evil.as I too have been shocked when someone has pressed dislike on something good.
@beatle4life64 Glad to see you join the club, my friend. May I suggest Whole Lotta Love, Bron-Yr-Aur, D'yer Ma'ker, No Quarter, Ramble On, and All My Love?(though that does not even crack their wonderfully marvelous hits!)
Sorry never saw what all the hype was about. They were a good band but FAR from anything special.There's so many bands that were and are better I wouldn't even know were to start.
I personally think they past there expiration date back in the early 80's.
@Roadiestar Listen to Whole Lotta Love. That will change your perspective of Zeppelin. And, if not, you are an illegal alien from Jupiter. I'll be calling space authorities on you.
@Roadiestar WOW! Faaaar from anything special? Are you serious? Their level of musicianship was brilliant. They invented the R&R template. A million bands have tried to copy them. Zep music is timeless. The most telling aspect of LZ's legacy (to me) is when someone asked Robert Plant wot he thought was important about Zep music, he said, "we are more interested in what people are doing while they are listening to us than how important our music is". REALLY listen to them and you will dig'em too.
okay... here's the truth my friends....people are going to be listening to music in 100yrs from now... and Led Zep WILL BE ONE OF THOSE BANDS... they will say....I wish I could have seen them..... I am one of the lucky ones....seen them 3 times...
My sister & sister-in-law both do not like led zeppelin at all. I give them hell. They just don't get it. some people do & some don't. My sister-in-law plays the acoustic guitar. simon and garfunkel & stuff like that. She has no idea. I told her to try bron-y-aur or friends, or going to cal or bron-y-aur stomp. I feel bad for my brother. He's as big a Zep fan as me. He cranks it. They fight a lot !
when Page plays he rips his soul out, the good and the evil, and it screams at you whether you like it or not. That's why page is great ( in my opinion.)
Any time live footage, even in its rawest form like this here, is worth it to hear Zeppelin during their heyday. If time machines are ever invented, I'd use it to go see them in concert!
This is also the show where police brutally beat some kid who left his seat to get closer to the stage. Robert and Jimmy were aghast and stopped the show - Robert berated the police for doing this, and Jimmy said later if he hadn't had a guitar in his hand, he would have jumped in and helped put a stop to it. They never played Philly again after the '75 show, they were so horrified by the scene.
This is a really interesting tour. They hit the road in a pretty damaged condition, with Rob stricken with a cold (and recovering from surgery), Jimmy with a smashed finger...and even Bonzo with stomach problems. The early shows are kind of fucked up (but still majestic, because it's fucking ZEP). They got better really fast, though. I just bought the newly released soundboard bootleg from Seattle in March, and it's just jaw-droppingly awesome. That kind of recovery just adds to the legend.
@mielazul Hey man, I'm in England, any idea's where I can order a copy of this Seattle oundboard bootleg? You're so lucky to have seen these guys live!
@THERodge100 Hey Rodge...I didn't see them live, unfortunately...I'm just a fanatic about LZ bootlegs (I've seen Jimmy and Rob and even JPJ many times though). As far as the Seattle soundboard, why don't you get in touch and I'll see what I can do - the Rosetta West videos on my channel have my e-mail address in the "show more" section.
There's no denying their place in rock history. I didn't become a big fan in their day, but have come to appreciate their music as years go by. One hell of a line up.......
-Do bands like Zeppelin, Floyd, The Doors, Hendrix and the Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? Led Z are in the pantheon of rock gods for ever, their body of work is diverse, intellectual and has its roots in english folk with a blues background paved by Jimmie Page listening to Robert Johnson and original bluesmasters. They are music history, a creative force. I prefer it that some uneducated kids hate it on you tube, at least on you tube they get a glimpse of greatness they otherwise would not perceive in their tiny bubbles of force-fed mass mediocrity
I actually never really bothered with anyone who bad mouthed or simply did not know Zeppelin. I remember this show-I was just 16. Zeppelin was our Philly gang’s God; we listened to & talked Zeppelin 24/7. Before tickets went on sale-I begged my parent’s to let me camp out in frot of the Spectrum ticket window with the older guys from the gang with no luck. On show night the unlucky one's huddled around a boom box on the corner-smoked a ton of weed & listened to WMMR’s radio coverage & imagined we were there too. Later I suffered stories of how magical & incredible our hero’s kick ass.
@Woprtshmidt753 Very nice comment and very well put. You may dig my You Tube videos on my Zeppelin video collection. Again, I like the way handled the comment above.
@Woprtshmidt753 Sometimes when people who say things like that, usually are people who do it to rouse hard core fans. ANY musician will tell you that these four prolific musicians had a gift, individually and collectively. I have not met one musician that has not completely paid homage to this significantly pivotal ensemble. Even a hip hop artist would know that this band is exceedingly beyond talented in every aspect of music. Anyone who doesn't get that, has no concept of reality. :)
@MBledzephed I don't have the time right now, but I have many good things to say about Hip Hop. So when I have a free moment, I will do that... (that was funny though!!) They are artists!!!
@Woprtshmidt753 when Zeppelin was playing in their "time", it was never heard or seen where Zeppelin was insulted, mocked, denigrated or otherwise lambasted. you either like them or you didn't. but you kept silent if you had something negative to say. i was 1 of those. but i didn't have the "stones" to say they sucked. you just promoted your 'band' and engaged in debate involving all the other 'bands'. they were the 'creme de la creme'.
I WAS AT THIS VERY SHOW ! OVER 3 HOURS LONG ! MOBY DICK SOLO (DRUM) WAS OVER 25 MIN'S LONG ! ALSO DID THE ENTIRE TWO LP SET- NOT EVEN RELEASED YET,WE HOPE YOU INJOY THIS ! DOWNBY THE SEASIDE (PAGE) IN FLOWER SHIRT WITH HIS DOUBLENECK!!
its funny that if you wer your guitar low like jimmy, you get called a slash wanna be..but slash must of got it from jimmy cause this is 10yrs b4 gnr, and jimmy was one of slashes influ.
Why did Zep leave us for so long from Earls court to Knebworth..Pisses me off cos when they get back they expect the following here in the uK to be the same..
@bluu999 If it was in September then they have played 3 stadium gigs in US, but they not. That accident was in August, you can believe or not but it was.
@bluu999 form wikipedia: (...) These plans were thwarted in August 1975 when Robert Plant and his wife Maureen were involved in a serious car crash while on holiday in Rhodes, Greece.
this concert was about 3 weeks before physical graffiti was released the 75 tour was 4 that album this was my first concert too awesome to find any clip at all of it at the spectrum in philadelphia
@weeszel No band ever had more business savy than Peter Grant (Mgr.) & Led Zeppelin. The album is ALWAYS released prior to a new tour. Saw them in Fort Worth for this '75 Physical Graffiti tour & in Dallas for '77 Presence tour.
@Pighood They would have songs composed and written way before they released them on an album. Some of their songs were many years old before they recorded them on an album. They played them in their shows for years, changing them up and developing the songs and then they incorporated them into an album, kinda like testing a car before putting it out on the market. They had probably been playing this song for years before this.
@Pighood Physical Graffiti was not released in 1976, it was released in 1975. The above comment by hvrock13 was somewhat right in regards to Jimmy Page having some songs in the can and reworking them. They did not have a ton of extra songs as we found out with the CODA. . Most of the work that the Blimp did in the studio {post Zeppelin 1 + II} were fresh and new. I know because I teach Classic Rock and no one did it better than Zeppelin. Not even nurses. {See 1977 Oakland}

You have to remember that recording equipment back 35 years ago wasn't the digital high-tech studio-in-your-phone of today. Put it this way: How do they look because the film is grainy and jumpy? Same thing with the audio. You can't make a judgment call like that based on old film and audio. And truthfully, even with these factors considered, they came out f*$%ing great!
this was the best show of my life ! i was there ! the lp was not even out yet ! THEY PLAYED THE WHOLE THING FRONT TO BACK ! COME TO MARCH-FOR-WORLD-PEACE!~JUNE 20TH CENTRAL-PARK. GUESS WHO SHOW'S? UP?

In all honesty, it does bother me a little that some people don't like
Led Zeppelin - but, intellectually, I also understand that their
music is not going to appeal to everyone. It does become a problem, though,
when those who don't like Led Zeppelin go onto their videos and start harassing everyone.
It boils down to live and let live, and let people have their own opinions. It goes both ways, too.

Why did Zep leave us for so long from Earls court to Knebworth..Pisses me off cos when they get back they expect the following here in the uK to be the same..

...Plant had a terrible car crash in '76
and then his son died near the end of the American tour in '77
StreeTRacR008 1 year ago
@StreeTRacR008 Plant had that accident in august '75
Vladymir1916 1 year ago
@Vladymir1916 The car accident happened in Greece in September of 1975.
bluu999 1 year ago
@bluu999 If it was in September then they have played 3 stadium gigs in US, but they not. That accident was in August, you can believe or not but it was.
Vladymir1916 1 year ago
@bluu999 form wikipedia: (...) These plans were thwarted in August 1975 when Robert Plant and his wife Maureen were involved in a serious car crash while on holiday in Rhodes, Greece.

@weeszel No band ever had more business savy than Peter Grant (Mgr.) & Led Zeppelin. The album is ALWAYS released prior to a new tour. Saw them in Fort Worth for this '75 Physical Graffiti tour & in Dallas for '77 Presence tour.

How could this be from '75? The song was on Physical Graffiti, released in '76.
Pighood 1 year ago
@Pighood They would have songs composed and written way before they released them on an album. Some of their songs were many years old before they recorded them on an album. They played them in their shows for years, changing them up and developing the songs and then they incorporated them into an album, kinda like testing a car before putting it out on the market. They had probably been playing this song for years before this.
hvrock13 1 year ago
@Pighood Physical Graffiti was not released in 1976, it was released in 1975. The above comment by hvrock13 was somewhat right in regards to Jimmy Page having some songs in the can and reworking them. They did not have a ton of extra songs as we found out with the CODA. . Most of the work that the Blimp did in the studio {post Zeppelin 1 + II} were fresh and new. I know because I teach Classic Rock and no one did it better than Zeppelin. Not even nurses. {See 1977 Oakland}

Sounds like Zeppelin is playing the song an octave too low.....The song doesn't even sound good and I am a huge Zeppelin fan.

@Karenfan09
JackOfferlott 1 year ago
@Karenfan09 they did tune this song differently for live preformances
