Yes Anne Calvello, Joan Weston, Jan Vallo, Diane Syverson and more,,, thanks for posting this video and mentioning the names of the skaters form both rival derby leagues Roller Games and the main Roller Derby league!! Anne Calvello is an original punk rock lady!!!
I was in the advanced class in norwalk ct. at a training center run by frank mcGrath. I know Loretta Behrns almost personally. Jan was a great skater. Tough as hell, and I admired Nick Scopas. If they had problems, thats between them. He was a good skater and Jan was one of the best.. I watched her when her and Nick ran the NY Bombers.
Roller Derby was a popular sport in the early 50's. Then someone decided to turn it into a fake wrestling match. It went downhill from there. If I want to see wrestling, I'll go to a wrestling match.
Roller Derby was the baddest thing on TV back in the 70's. My friends and I went to ALL the games when they were near Dayton, OH. We went to the games in Indianapolis, Columbus, Cincy, and Cleveland. Ann Cavello and Joan Weston were awesome. May they both rest in peace for all the fun and excitement they brought us!
That movie KC Bomber with Raquel Welch killed Roller Derby. Look at the people that they showed in that film who went to see Roller Derby. Looked like Bowery Bums! Nobody wanted to be a part of that!
Speaking of the late, lamented IRSL...the Eastern Express was the ONLY team in the IRSL other than the Bay Bombers to have skated home games! I attended their first (v. Bay Bombers) and last (v. MW Pioneers) home games at MSG - Roller Derby at it's finest!
I used to hang out with them in Oakland. Jonnie Weston owned a woman's bar called the Driftwood. They'd beat the crap out of each other, then all meet for drinks!
The teams are the southern starx vr eastern express! I have the game on video! and am trying to give it away to another fan cheap! - the 2 girls never liked eacch other! the one in yellow syverson , was a wild woman- ann calvello is out there too beating up bj Peterson! at the end though cavallo gets hers and so does syverson!!! trust me!! holler if interested in tape

I wouldn't mind a copy myself. I used to love IRSL shows on ESPN (and sometimes the MSG Network). I actually wrote to Bill Hill a couple times.
