  • I made dinner by the time it finished spinning!

  • how can a 1400 degree turbo be cooled down by water? that evaps around what??

  • Nice Subie :)

  • cool vid, yes, it is recommended to allow time to idle, yes, weather its oil/water cooled, the main reason is because the turbo veins are spinning extremely fast, when the engine is shut off the veins of the turbo are still spin very fast but with no oil pressure, yes there is still oil present, and yes the effects are not as important if the car is driven gently for a few minutes after a hard run and stopped. the problem is stopping right after a run, not simply driving home and parking..

  • that's hypnotic lol

  • sorry!!!!

  • GARRET IS GARRET

  • it's spelled "garretT" ;)

  • @88NPR fucking dumbass troll

  • twin scroll is the type of exhaust flange it has. instead of having a single port it has two that reduce lag in turbos. so you get the power faster. think of a dual exhaust or a single exhaust on a v8 kinda the same concept.

  • what does twin scroll mean?

  • "You are getting sleepy, very sleepy"

  • lol XD

  • should of put ur finger in it :))

  • what is twin scroll? im tyrying to learn more about turbos

  • twin scroll is a design that divides the turbine housing or the hot side into two chambers that merge at a given point. Volumetricly providing better flow while enhancing turbocharger response. this[][] not this [O]. good for big turbos on small displacement engines.

  • now thats what i call sexy

  • nice spin i want a big gt like that ...my IHI only can go a quarter of that but then again its been spinning strong for 21 years (88 impulse lotus tuned edition)

  • übel die dinger ! MfG

  • very low f-factor

  • You dont need a turbo timer for water cooled turbos...

  • yes u do!

  • auhh, This baby spins like a diamond. Love it. \ish I had one instead of my 18G.

  • hahha mind i love ball bearing. i love when i turn my car off u can hear my gt3076 spin for a minute lol. its siic

  • are all gt40rs twin scroll?

  • nope you have to get the special housing

  • Yeah dude you need a turbo timer no matter what.

  • you are an idiot

  • agreed

  • i agree with ur agreeing

  • so are you saying that everytime you should get out of your car and once you shut it off and reach in there and stop your turbo from spinning lol i will start doing that

  • Just FyI, you only need a turbo timer if you don't have a water cooled turbo, which mine is

  • wrong, water cooled or not, you want to let the engine idle after a hard run, water cooled housing is not magic, still needs to idle for a while depending on load! Timer just makes it convenient.

  • ^^haha, its all this big hipe about the turbo timer, yes when you pull into the garage and turn off the car thats way plenty of time...what do you think magically at idle the car doesn't need oil and it doesn't flow to all parts of the engine and turbo...and yes it does matter if the turbo is water cooled or not...but thats your own opinion on that one

  • Heh, if someone isn't responsible enough to kinda let the car have a brief cooldown period before shutting it off, they don't deserve a FI vehicle.

Who rips through their gears then immediatly pulls into park anyways? If I was running from cops the last thing I'd want is a turbo timer keeping my engine running while I was trying to hide! :)

    Garret Dual BB turbos rock.

  • @blowbyu24

just easy down the last miles before you shut down your car, thats easy.

  • Actually, do a little research before you tell someone they're wrong. His turbo is water-cooled, and a turbo timer is not needed. At all.

  • ^ true story. only reason they have a turbo timer is when its only oil going into a turbo. and when the turbo is so hot from running that the oil will cake on to the spindle. since its oil and coolant fed, there is no need for that since after the car is shut off the coolant is still flowing through the turbo. an -1 to you mr yplate180. get your head out of your hondas ass.

  • Why would water still flow through the turbos if the engine is off and the water pump is not spinning? Not all cars have electric auxiliary water pumps to cool the turbos after shutdown. Localized boiling points is a bad thing.

  • im pretty sure its not to supply oil or water when the engines is shut down but the stagnent water in the turbo stops the oil from sludging up

  • jdmpowerd is right on the money about the w/pump. My Rx7 may be about to recieve a Davies Crag EWP but I'll still give it a minute or so (min) to cool. Better to be safe than sorry.

There is a reason that nearly all turbo cars need an oil change at 5k kms and not 10k kms.

Where the hell did you get the idea about the

"no need for that since after the car is shut off the coolant is still flowing through the turbo". LET'S MAKE SOME STEAM POCKETS.

  • Jesus, do you have worked on an STi before? if you did, then you are a fool. if you haven't, you're still a fool. An RX-7 isn't an STi. I have owned mine for 2 years protuned on stock turbo and shut the car off like a normal Honda. 66,800 miles later, it stills run like a champ with regular upkeep and maintenance. So please stop with the stupid bullshit about turbo timers are needed for our Subarus when they're not needed. I hate ignorant shits who try to hard.

  • "do you have worked on an STi before?"

Im not quite sure what you're trying to say but I'll say this, don't type angry, it makes more sense.

"if you did, then you are a fool. if you haven't, you're still a fool"

Well I guess that makes EVERY person in the world a fool by that statement. No offense but think before you type, or at least read afterwards.

Anyway I think the point of the discussion is the use of a T/timer not the particular model. It's a safety net, why get so upsetn about it

  • ummm your turbo doesnt stop spinning at idle....its not like he was rippin on it and then just shut it right off. Thats the only time its bad.

  • yea you know what i mean tho, just i should of clarified that its bad to drive a car hard or extended highway use and just cut it off like that. my bad

  • ahhh gotcha. good deal then

  • what are u dumb? it just does that on its own..the way it is

  • It keeps going and going and going..

  • hehe, stop teasing, turn it back on

  • Ball bearings FTW

  • +1 to that!

  • the turbo only has 2,000 miles on it

  • did you blow your turbo yet?

  • Daaamn...a huge ass garrett there :O

  • real power
