saw one of these in a zoo in California. Incredibly beautiful cats and even though theyre quite small, they seem so agile plus theyve got powerful front legs & jaws. Very impressive, wouldnt wanna meet one in the wild
@wolfquestboy no animal can actually beat a human... humans r just smart... eg. Animals cant methodically target and kill only humans, but we can do that + we got wepz... if a pistol wont kill it im sure a shotty can...
if u saw a mountain lion, and it could talk, it probably say "F what you heard, if you don't consider me a "big cat" then check this out ! * bites spinal cord ...your dead.
Actually this isn't the video I was talking about oops my bad. The one I meant was "Mountain Lion Encounter" This stupid lady is in a house with her daughters and they were using high pitched voices which mimics the lions prey, the lion was really looking. I'd never let my kids out again after what she so stupidly did.
So the only reason a mountain lion isn't considered a big cat is because it can't roar. That's like saying stock cars aren't cars because they don't have horns.
Actually, the main reason for their classification is because, evolutionarily and genetically, mountain lions are more closely related to smaller cats than to cats in the Pantherinae subfamily (what we call "big cats"), and that is most notably expressed in its vocalisations.
I'm honestly not trying to sound like a know-it-all. It's just that, as much as I enjoy it, Animal Planet has a tendency to seriously oversimplify basic biological concepts.
@airtioteclint There are two categories, when it comes to classifying wild cats. Big Cats and Small (Lesser?) Cats. The Big Cats are ones like lions, tigers, leopards and jaguars. Small Cats would be ones like cougars, lynx, bobcat, caracals, snow leopards, etc. Quite a few of them may not be small, but they're still classified that way.
They shouldn't be as mountain lions are no where near the size of lynx, bobcat, caracals, snow leopards ocelots etc. Their much bigger. I think snow leopards are kind of large.
@airtioteclint no,its about genetics. Mountain lions are more related to the small felines than to the big ones, even though you could say its a "big" cat - in any case the only reproted interspecies hybrid with a mountain lion is the pumapard (x leopard)and they are believed to be quite close to the leopard - which then belongs to the panthera genus. So aprart from minor differences, cats are generally a very "closed"genus and its not much use diferenciating between big&small ones
I too am a lover of these creatures. I think part of the appeal of the Mountain Lion is that it is very closely genetically related to the common house-cat and it bears really similar features on it's face and even makes similar noises (grunts, squeaks, hisses, chirping etc). It's almost like a huge house-cat but that ...you know...would have no problem disemboweling you, hehe.
My Favorite Cats & the One's I associate so well with! Saves the Wolves..Save the Lions....Save All God's Beautiful Creations!! Thanks for sharing this w/us!
@MrElvisr27A small female one of these cats mauled a pitbul and a boxer in one attack. That's just one documented case. All bigger cats eat domestic dogs all the time. Can't imagine how many dogo argentinos the jaguar has devoured down in S America.
"We'd Be No Match For Them In A Fight" U dumbass, Do u even know what we have? If i fight one of those things ill just pick up my 9mm and put like 4 bullets on that thing. THAT is how simple it can be dead. If its still alive, put another 3 or 2 bullets on em.
@calvo69696969 you didn't even invent the gun; if you were truly that ingenious you'd definitely stand a chance, but if it weren't for others' creations, you wouldnt stand a chance
@Dsupreme1 He's probably "ingenious" enough to pick up a long, sturdy stick, and sharpen the end into a weapon. Not exactly the same kind of advantage a gun would bring, but he'd have a decent shot to keep the cougar at bay.
Of course, he'd have to have the weapon ahead of time, as well as decent athleticism.

@wolfquestboy Can u shut the fuck up? Btw nice trolling. But it wont work on me :) insult me all you want. I really dont care. no matter how many times u reply i really dont care. Ill just ignore. Keep on with my stuff i wanna do. You know why you over react yourself? because your pretty much a douche bag who cant just take a joke. reply me when your brain is fixed.
@calvo69696969 You wouldn't even see it coming. Not to mention that thing would close in on you in a matter of seconds. I'd wager that one of those things can take a few 9mm rounds as well. Lets see how well you fire your gun when you're being shred to pieces by claws and teeth.
@calvo69696969 I think they mean u should fight with them without any weapon. Can u come to my house i have a mountain lion,i want u to fight with it.

That video applies the LAW OF NATURE: The Survival of the Fittest and the Elimination of the Unfit. That is important to maintain the BALANCE OF NATURE.
Incredible animal, I was stalked by a mountain lion 2 days ago... it snuck to within 15 yards until I saw it and stood up and started yelling at it... it kept coming at me to under 10 yards before stopping and turning away. I will never forget that intense look in it's eyes, I thought I was dead meat!
I recently learned that genetic studies show that cougars are more related to house kittycats than to lions and tigers, as had been previously assumed. Now I seem to see pussycat-like facial expressions and body language on the cougars in this video.
@Axgoodofdunemaul Yeah and did you know Cheetah's are also in that ballpark? Cheetah's are closest to Cougar's in the evolutionary line, meaning; Cheetah's didn't originate in Africa and are closer related to the Puma family.
@N00bcrunch3r I have to agree. I'd rather encounter a mountain lion than a bear in the wilderness - especially if there are no trees around. But even if we have to fence off vast swaths of national parks, the natural wilds of the Americas must be protected. We owe that to our grandchildren.
@jjjason2000 fuck you assshole ill kill you before you kill it. theres 7 billion people on this planet and less than 50,000 mountain lions. so stop destroying our eco-system you redneck piece of shit
I'm going to favorite this video. The Mountain Lion,Cougar, you name it! Is my favorite animal in the whole animal kingdom! And to see one in the wild is my hope and future event! I live in the mid west and I've only seen one in captivity. So these animals, like many people say.Should treasure these epic beasts!
when you go into the forests of western washington, remember 1 important thing; you are being watched. you may not see it, but it surely sees you. be wise, be safe, be aware.
@Spirit4496 Komodo Dragon hands down. The puma's claws can't even penetrate it's scales. heck, a 0.22 caliber bullet just bounces off it's skin. then there's the rabies from the drool of the lizard. and if all else fails, they also have claws of their own.

Axgoodofdunemaul 1 year ago
@Axgoodofdunemaul Yeah and did you know Cheetah's are also in that ballpark? Cheetah's are closest to Cougar's in the evolutionary line, meaning; Cheetah's didn't originate in Africa and are closer related to the Puma family.
In relation it goes:
Lions - Leopards - Jaguars
Tigers - Snow Leopards
Cheetahs - Cougars - Lynx

You may be afraid of the Cougar, but a bear would smack his butt to the moon.
N00bcrunch3r 1 year ago
@N00bcrunch3r I have to agree. I'd rather encounter a mountain lion than a bear in the wilderness - especially if there are no trees around. But even if we have to fence off vast swaths of national parks, the natural wilds of the Americas must be protected. We owe that to our grandchildren.

Yes, indeed we should.

Cougars are getting more common, which is a good thing. But they are a danger to children. Keep children close when in cougar country.
Axgoodofdunemaul 1 year ago
@Axgoodofdunemaul should've told that to Ashton Kutcher before he married Monica Belluci.

I'm going to favorite this video. The Mountain Lion,Cougar, you name it! Is my favorite animal in the whole animal kingdom! And to see one in the wild is my hope and future event! I live in the mid west and I've only seen one in captivity. So these animals, like many people say.Should treasure these epic beasts!

which would win in a fight... a komodo dragon or a puma
Spirit4496 1 year ago
@Spirit4496
Komodo.
N00bcrunch3r 1 year ago
@Spirit4496 Komodo Dragon hands down. The puma's claws can't even penetrate it's scales. heck, a 0.22 caliber bullet just bounces off it's skin. then there's the rabies from the drool of the lizard. and if all else fails, they also have claws of their own.

What? I thought Cougars only lived in the west with a couple of subspecies living in Florida and the Northeastern United States.
