FINALLY someone snagged something from this show. Fave of mine when I was about 5 (1971) & the most remembered episode was when Arnie had his boss's limo accidentally crushed into a cube. THANKS!
I recall this series was on Sat. evenings at 8PM. I remember seeing the opening for the 2nd season with him sitting in the defective office chair. For years I never forgot that but didn't know what program it was.
I was in high school the years Arnie was on. There was only one reason to watch this show. Stephanie Steele was my heartthrob. Seeing her again reminds me that there very likely has never been a more beautiful face that ever appeared in front of a TV camera. I lost track of her after about 1980 and would love to know what she is doing today. Anyone out there that can help me?
In the series, Arnie's last name was Nuvo, which was a play on "nouveau riche." Roger Bowen was a hoot as the ultimate WASP, in contrast to Arnie's ethnicity. Sue Ane Langdon had briefly played Alice on the Jackie Gleason Show. Possibly somebody remembered her when Betty White was cast as Sue Ann Nivens on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Arnie was not great, but a fun show.
I used to watch this on Satruday nights on CBS as a kid. I love the first season title with the org chart. The music was pretty cool, too. I recall at the end of one episode Herschel chasing Sue Ann around the house while she was in a bikini. I'd have chased her too, if I had been old enough at the time. (I was only 11). LOL!!!
My dad liked to point out that, due to safety regulations, Arnie really couldn't have ridden on the forklift the way he's shown in the opening of the show--at least not without creating a lawsuit he would have had to deal with once he got up to his new office.
The casting of Hershel was perfect in this case. He had a good blue-collar working man appeal about himself. Today, Alex O'Laughlin would be doing the role instead of a poor man's Steve McGarrett.
This was actually a pretty good show. It was on Saturday nights. Then, in season 2, they switched it to Monday nights. It lost it's original audience, and was dropped after the season.
Just discovered the existance of this old show from reading a 1970 tv guide. I love American (I'm Australian) tv from this period it's so quaint and it's even better if it's something short lived and obscure like Arnie.
Good pick up on the MTM thing didn't think of that but in the earlier theme I did notice a similarity to the famous Brady Bunch theme.
Creator David Swift had more success w/ this show than his earlier creation, Camp Runamuck, which just lasted 1 season on NBC (1965-66). He also wrote & directed one of my favorite Disney movies, The Parent Trap. He did commentary for that movie w/ Hayley Mills just before he died in 2001.
In fact, Bernardi started his career playing small roles in Yiddish language films. His brother Jack was also an actor (he appeared in the episode of "The Munsters" in which Herman and Granpa try to to return the money they accidentally stole from the bank). Bernardi's first television series was "Peter Gunn", in which he played Lieutenant Jacobi.
The second season title had variations of "Hamilton Majors" checking off different items on his "Things To Do Today" pad [at 2:10]- one of them, in another episode, was "O'Leary's Bar Mitzvah"...
Arnie throwing his lunchbox in the air and it turns into his briefcase in mid air then it falls back down and catches it is the equivalent of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her hat in the air and catching it:-)
Don't remember this show at all? Where was I?

Looks like they could use this opening for CBS's Undercover Boss.

Heh... "Hershel Bernardi"? I thought he was Sephardic, but no, total Ashkenaz.... I don't know where the last name came from...

@twinflame93 I see what you mean after all, austrailian tv shows consist mainly of crocodiles, and kangaroos, even the cop shows!

Earlier, Swift created "Mr. Peepers', which went on to be his most successful series.

Wow, I forgot all about this show, but now I remember it very clearly. So corny LOL. Never noticed the changing items on the list.
Not Italian. Herschel Bernardi was Jewish and his father performed in the Yiddish theater.

I once read there was an effort to "play down" Sue Ane Langdon's looks. Didn't work. She still looks fantastic.

Yeah, she looks young enough to be Herschel Bernardi's daughter.
