The internet functionality is completely useless to the point where it is broke imo, it is so slow you will never use it but after saying that if you just take the device for what it is without internet then its good.

I've been debating alot with IPOD touch and Archos. IPod touch is great and don't me wrong, it's probably more then enough for 95% of the users around here. However, if you want higher quality for almost the same price, Archos is king.

In the end, I went with the Archos, 80gig HD and I cannot complain.

I dont believe its that simple, keep in mind Archos are all hard drive based & Most ipods nowadays are flash based - Flash based MP4's are without question more reliable,faster,druable than harddrives but they tend to be more expansive and have less space.

My Archos 504 supports AVI files just fine. I suppose it depends on what codecs you use. AVI/WMV/MOV etc are just "containers". What really matters are what codecs you use to encode the video and audio streams within the container. I rip to AVI with MP4 video and MP3 audio. Rationale: MP3 audio works on any PMP, since they all play MP3's. MP4 video works on many devices. Ironically such AVI's do not play on Windows Media Player, but play fine using VLC or other software.

YOU KNOW WHY THEY INCLUDED THE BUTTONS? because its friggin annoying and a hazzle to change a song with the touch sensitive controls, well its very responsive, but when you are on some sort of public transportation or on the go, doesnt matter, you can just put your hand in your pocket and press left or right to change a song. Its also mean to be a extra for those who dont want to smudge up the screen at all times possible/or drag out the pen.

Just to say the Archos 605 WiFi does support .AVI files and therefore DivX. Myosat unfortunatley it doesn't support .mkv. Seeing as most .mkv files are HD then you wouldn't expect it to.

The Archos 605 blows the icrap away! It does everything the icrap does and more!

You can purchase the 30GB Archos with the dvr station, and all of the plugins for the same price as the icrap touch 16gb! With the Archos you can drag and drop your files (No itunes needed) With the options you can record live tv, and watch video content from any pc on your wireless network on your tv! try doing that with an icrap!

However the icrap is prettier, so apple wins that one!

I had the same thing with avi files on my old gmini 402. If you are downloading of of limewire just make sure that tv shows (22 min) are above 120 mb and movies are above 700mb. If they don't imedeitly work than install mpeg4 translator and virtual dub and convert them into an archos understandable version of AVI

no you don't. You don't even really need the cinema plug in. It does play avi files as well as xvid and divx though you may run into problems if the audio is encoded in anything not mp3 but for the most part this is not a problem. I STATE AGAIN, YOU CAN PLAY AVI'S, XVID AND DIVX ON THE 605 SO STOP LYING PEOPLE.

I agree. People assume it doesn't because archos offers a cinema plug in. I mean, don't you people think the unit would be much cheaper if it didn't play avi's out of the box? My avi's and whatnot play fine without the plugin(though for anything coded with ac3 or any other bullshit audio codec, you will have to convert but thats no big deal)
