My thoughts and "grades" of each person in this part:
#7: Love him or hate him, Marx hit the nail on the head with his ideas and writings. He pretty much made capitalism and set the ball rolling on the development of Communist nations, the Cold War, and many other events. Wish Engels was ranked with him, though. A+
#6: Again, love him or hate him, Columbus shaped the world as we know it. His landing in the New World connected the two sides of the world and set the stage for world conquest. A+
Marx forgot something: Without the chance of getting rich, no one works hard, tries to enterprise, and basically becomes the `nigger syndrome`. my vids rock
I would have to agree that Marx gets the shaft here by A&E's "experts" that try to surmise his ideas were failures because of how they were abused by Russia or that his 'Das Capital' is "unreadable." Marx was one of the first in history to point out the nature of capitalism and industry, smack in the middle of the industrial revolution, was the unfair treatment of the many for the benefit of the few. I'm pleased to see him in the top 10.
in my opinion Karl Marx was dismissed here as merely someone who inspired a failed system. Marx's greatest contribution was his analysis of capitalism...Holbrooke is way off base...one can use the analytical method of Marx to understand clearly what was the cause of the economic crisis today. Shame on A&E... when Galileo is featured we get astronomers. When it's Marx's turn we get no Marxists.
Right, because identifying the "bourgeoisie" is an easy task in any society. It's the factory boss! No, wait, it's the floor manager! No, wait a minute, it's the supervisor! No no, it's the workers' union! Then the deliverymen! Then the store owner who charges money for the product! And the one who buys the product? Obviously bourgeoisie - they dictate the market price!
The only part of society that passes for pure proletariat are sporting diapers and teething on electrical sockets.
The negative commentary on marx shows complete intellectual disregard and dilettantism. Should Einstein be discounted because relativity led to the creation of the atomic bomb. Marx historical materialism has yet to be bettered by any scientific formulation of history. His dialectical materialism remains the zenith of philiosophy. His economic analysis, like that of Adam smith has been outmoded by the introduction of the fiat monetary system in replacement of the classical gold standard
WOW!! Columbus does not deserve to be on the list at all! He didn't discover America, people traveling on the barren straight discovered America. Amerigos Ves Pocci landed in America and named it after himself, then he left. Columbus just didn't know how to read a map and stumbled across the "New World". He also did allot of fucked up things to the Natives. What an asshole!
i understand that the people who voted didn't vote for the celebreties but for the ideas they stood for. columbus was not the person that discovered america - but the name and the year 1492 stands for the beginning of a new time-line.
KARL MARX - the most OVERRATED philosopher in history!
