Seeing that repeatedly makes me feel tired lol, it is a bit of a struggle shot but I do ok on it. Normally I'm pretty good at moving in or back but people that hit looping forehands like that kind of drive me crazy.
Damn her back hand is tremendous. I need to practise mine and wish I was as good as hers. I was initially two handed but tried one handed back hand yesterday with much success and may stick to it now. I am right handed.
wow, nice! I'm lefthanded player, i play for 2 years now... with occasional re-sets, but it didn't stop me from joining my universities team and start competing with much more experienced players. I always wanted to learn how to hit a one handed backhand, whats the secreeet?! :D
A lot of those shots can be slices. They were good shots but some of them could've been better if they were slices. Instead of your high bouncing backhand that your partner hit with ease, you could hit a low spinny shot
she needs to take those high ones on the rise..step up, take it early, and just use the same beautiful swing she has and it will be a lot easier on her
@doodle1236 the training was to be specific to those times when the ball is kicked to your backhand. So. Doing that would ruin the goal of this SPECIFIC training. DUh.
Moreover, that pose after the one handed back hand is a bad idea. When I play a person with a one handed backhand and they have that pose. I hit a lot of my forehands inside out to drive them deep to their backhand side. Once they hit the ball and make that "pose" I step inside the court and go cross court on their return. And, with that pose, most of the time, my cross court forehand is a winner!
@joeschmo468 it's a training tool, to make sure the student finishes properly. This is training, not match play. Believe it or not people have reasons for their training methods lol
Federer and Henin have nice finishing poses on their backhands. I suppose your strategy would work on them? Good form is highly important. It's good to practice it throughout the entire stroke, even after contact.
@tenishotshot that is not what he meant. he was talking about that second after the shot where she stands still and watches where the ball goes. she does not recover quickly enough so players that play with much pace and take the ball early will have enough time to let her run across the whole court.
That is a fantastic one handed backhand from someone that age and height.
Wow! Kudos and massive props. Well trained. She will do well in tournaments if she is able to hit those high loopers that girls toss up so frequently.
You should show her Justine henin clips. She was very short but she took the ball so early with her 1 hander and I think that trying that would help your pupil a lot....good bh though!
Hi Tommy! Great to see a young player using a one-handed backhand! Out of interest, what made her choose it? Was she more natural to her or some other advantage?
Hey Tommy, this is great to practice because I'm sure the girls would pick on it. Maybe she can practice with a more neutral/offensive court positioning as well. Sometimes when someone feels more comfortable in that position, they will fall back into that in a match. I'm sure your on it and I know nothing. ;)
@YarpBarp09 yes you are correct, she needs to get away from the first step with her left foot always going back. We have done a lot of half-volleys recently working on that. thanks for the comment.
I don't think he means the ball was faster, like hitting winners. I think he means her movement was faster.
Being able to hit the high backhand is great, but being able to move to the ball and recover after hitting it quickly is key. But this is practice, so it's good to start slow.
Proud to see you hitting a one handed backhand. Tired of watching the weaker two handers.

The finish looks contrived, not a natural part of the stroke.

@tuber123asd thats how you teach tennis

@tuber123asd As Tommy said, during practice, you exaggerate the motion. Eventually, it becomes natural.
