In India, there are tassa drums that are more deep, and tassas that are more flat. There are big basses like the ones in Trinidad, and small ones like Guyana, it just depends what part of India you go to. Like I've said in another post, I'm working on a research project for tassa with a top tassa man. Nobody can claim that tassa is from the Caribbean because its not, maybe some of the hands have slightly improvised and developed (soca and steelpan hands), but that its. Its for everybody .

Alright. Looks like there is a lot of confusion here about tassa. #1, the tassa drum is NOT indegenous to Trinidad or Guyana. This is a drum that was born in India, and was brought by the labourers to the West Indies, just like the dholak. The tassa drum is a common drum throughout India. And yes, Guyana does have tassa, but it is different; the hands are different, and the tassa is more flat, unlike Trinidad to where their drum is deep; the bass in Guyana is smaller and sounds diffferent;
