@mastersgta1 Wouldn't be surprised if it is, considering Japan's largely mountainous landscape and high elevation combined with the fact that this train travels at least 175mph for considerable stretches of distance and time.
@Tomasch air positive/negative pressure during passing thru tunnel will be alternated in a very short time. therefore, structural strength of chassis should be increased. it means the beams of this chassis become wider than others. so window goes smaller.
@ikinaridango0156@ No, all of Europe has the same topography, Spain is the country with more high speed lines in Europe and is a mountainous country, so the cars have to be pressurized to prevent annoying pressure changes in the tunnels. That if high-speed trains in Spain have panoramic windows unlike the Japanese.
It has a more European look to it rather than the Bullet shaped or Duck-bill shaped nose formaly giving Shinkansens their iconic design in the past.

And the USA has Amtrak. How pathetic is that....?

Looks like a passenger jet on rails. I suppose the cabins are pressurized too?

The windows are not smaller. The trains are huge, is was on it last week

Why does japanese trains have smaller windows than european ones?

lightweight technology.

@jonaskussams
Because there are many tunnels in Japan. (The topography is different from Europe)
When a bullet train came in the tunnel, a sonic boom occurs.
Therefore, the window is small. (Like the window of the plane)

@ikinaridango0156 Don't understand that, please explain that a bit more.

ashbash182 is right. They are ginormous as hell. TGVs, Eurostar, ICEs and Class 395 (i.e. a quasi-sinkansen for Britain) would look like pigmies.

Shinkansen is mainly made of aluminum.
Light body is more cost basically cheaper and faster speed.
Therefore, Japanese engineers tried to reduce the heavy glass as possible.

I'll admit, it is pretty short for a Shinkansen, but looks really cool.
