The only people who consider this film to be remotely interesting/entertaining/challenging are, in fact, morons, just like Ashton Kutcher. The fact that this film has not been unearthed as the pure garbage that it is, makes me fear for society.
@FEAR709 i agree with you, I'm not saying that we're walking down the path that has already been set out for us,...but i think it's not always random, there is things that we can't miss, things that are destinated to us :-) ...
@maamovies Agreed. Some things tend to do happen no matter what the approach. And when you look back at them you think, that maybe it was not all random.
@babby1994 It' based on the Butterfly Effect theory, how even the smallest action can change the course of events dramatically i.e. the wings of a butterfly flapping, causing turbulence and ultimately a typhoon halfway across the world.
@TheWoolleyMammoth Because everytime he tried to make right, things just got worse and worse, hence ultimately undoing all those events by not being born.
I just watched this not even 15 minutes ago... I was bawling throughout the entire thing and it would hurt to watch it a second time. It was amazing... I've never been this emotional over a movie... So good but so painful :( sad.
i remember watching this but i was like 4 years old so i dont remember much all i remember is some axe being thrown at someone. but anyway i wanna rewatch it
@BiebersShawty4Evah Well its basicly changing a small thing in past, like steping on a butterfly will lead to a lot of thing changing, so its like chain reaction
ashton kutcher is a great actor but he's wasting his talent on medicore blockbuster chick flicks. i guess i would be too if i was getting millions...oh well =(
my mom watched this and hated it cuz of the pedo bits, but i think this film is brilliant, i was skeptical at first thinking wft? ashton kutcher ? but he turnedd out to be awesome!
Ugh, how I just hate that typical all-american voice that's in the background. You know, the one that goes: "Some people want's to forget the past...and bla bla bla" It's so annoying.
this movie is an example why no one should judge a movie by its metacritic score...this movie has a metacritic score of 30 (!!!!!)...however,i personally consider it a very good thriller...
It's a metaphor, that one small change might affect things of a much larger scale in the future. It gets its name from the theoretical example that a hurricane might form depending on whether or not a butterfly in a distant place had flapped its wings.
@HoodedSuperman There's a chinese proverb that a butterfly waving her wings in in one part of the world may change the elections outcome in another part of the world (or something like that). The point is that if you change one very little thing in history, everything else will change
maybe it has something to do with the fact, that he came into prison (sry you have to read my comments upside down :S ) because of something he changed before, and that way this changed wasn't meant to be yet in the past... maybe in the past, only the effects of the each FIRST change are showing.. thats really complicated, cause to find out if thats an explanation i have to preposition all the changes and so on... but i guess i'm on the right track ;)
(...) e.g. when he goes into the mailbox scene the first time, drops the cigarette, and when he wakes up again, the burn scar is new....
and one time, both "versions" are mixed in one blackout: in the classroom scene, later (when he changes it) he injures his hands AND draws the paint, and when it happened the first time, only the paint thing already happened, the scares came later in prison right after the change.
Hey, I have a question because there's something I don't get in the movie...
So when evan experiences the blackouts as a child, then most often what he's "changing" later is already like that the first time, right, so he actually doesn't change it but completes it. E.g. when his father choked him, he did this because what evan said in the future already came out of his mouth there the first time. but at other times the consequences of the change come not until he's in the future(see next c)
@xXxidealess thats the problem with time travel, the paradoxes. unless you branch off into a parallel universe and affect "another you" it just doesnt work out correctly. so in that way, or not changing the past at all (The Time Machine 2002 version) is the only way to have it perfect. which usually doesnt make for a good story cuz the main aspect of time travel is changing the past for a better future. it has to be accidental like Back To The Future. im not saying The Time Machine 2002 was bad
@xXxidealess but movies without a paradox will usually suck since the main fascination is wanting to alter a bad past. H.G. Wells is a genius to realize you cant build your time machine to save someone cuz then you will never build it cuz they havent died. he is the one who first made time travel fiction in "recent" time. but for your question, if everything was done in the past, then he should already have the new future. like marty with the cooler life at the end of back to the future. paralel
@aKILLAfromAPK damn, that's complicated to refer to butterfly effect x) i might need a little help there :) so you're saying that you can't take every logical consequence the changes would cause, because that would include that he maybe isn't doing what he's doing in the present.. but wouldn't butterfly effect still make some sort of limited, but at least for-all-time-applicable sence if they e.g. removed this "mistake" in the knife-, classroom- and cigarrette-scene? (=the ones i've noticed)
Watching this tonight on blu-ray is it a good movie? Hope it's not scary. Hate scary films. I know they've done a sequel is it any good? Usually it's never as good as the first.
Amazing movie. But the other two look stupid and instead of this being some sort of gift passed from farther to son they make it look like something that anyone could do.
@jordodudeful There are two endings to the movie which is often juggled when showing the movie on television.
One shows him walking past her in a busy street as strangers because he went back to time in which he scared her and she went to live with her mother instead if her dad. Meaning they never really knew each other.
The second is the one you describe in him going back to being in his mothers womb.Meaning he never existed and he saves everyone in doing so.
magnificent movie, im one of those people who likes older more arthouse films but this movie was perfect in every way a perfect 10, its in my top 10 alltime films at #88
the best ending for me is wen he chooses not to go back as frend of amy smart den he leaves her alone and not looking back at the end. aside from directors cut ending and the other stalkin' going out for a coffe sayin' do we know each other. very great movie.
I saved up for this on DVD and the other day I wen into hmv went to pay and realised it was a 15 I was hoping to get away with it until he asked for ID, I was devastated :'( x
at the end he doesn't walk past her on the street. he goes back in time by watching a video of his berth and kills his self in his mothers stommic so that every thing ends good . he kills his self to safe the ones he loves. (best movie ever btw)
@Nolavalamp it ends when he goes back to the day he met her and scared her away, so they wouldn't become friends and destroyed his journals, so that he couldn't go back. this way he saved her life, but they never had anything together, though he remembers everything. the end has him passing her by on the street and not saying anything to her. pretty sad :(
i watched the start of this movie and got soo scared wen the little boy had the knife in his hand that i stopped watching it lol! and now ive seen the trailer i get what the whole movies about now so im going to try and watch it again but with someone lol! :)

This is by far the best movie I've ever seen. I read the book 3 times and watched the movie twice. I gotta see it again soon...brilliant.
