This music really speaks to me. I have lived all my life by the sea and I can hear in this music the gentle movements of the sea on a calm quiet day. The sea has many moods. This music reflects one of its moods. Ana plays the piece so beautifully. I hope that she records it soon on a CD.
Ana and the Serenata, both incredibly beautiful... I have a doubt: is this a tremolo piece? It's just that sometimes when the camera focus the right hand fingers, seems like she's only using i,m fingering, but it sounds like a tremolo...
A matter of personal taste. Personally I think the piece is very beautiful. THe guitar repertoire is not that large and there are few tremolo pieces that are really great. This is not Recuerdos de la Alhambra or Sueño en la Floresta but it is close.
I'm gonna disagree there. A big part of enjoying a performance for me is seeing how the performer expresses and reacts to it. I'm not just saying that cause she's so easy to look at, hell, I like watching Segovia play too!
You know how to determine if the piece is something REALLY good? Close your eyes and listen. Well, I tried it here and what? Very eerie and foggy feeling, no excitement. It's only with this artfully arranged video of stunningly beautiful Ana playing it you get a nerve tingling sensation.
Conclusion: if it wasn't for Ana herself, the piece is just an average B, sorry.
If you ever get the chance to hear it live, make sure you do that. It's rather gorgeous I must say, but not all people like the same composer and you are rightfully entitled to your own opinion :).
@connorguitarist Totallly agree. I saw her live last year and it was astonishing. Not onl;y she is a virtuoso but her musicality is incredible no matter what she plays. DOn'e miss the chance to see her.

She is truly a great guitarist and musician, but urgently needs to be more careful in chosing her repertoire before her name is irreversibly associated with junk music.
If there is such a thing as "junk music" then I don't think she'd do that.
Second of all, junk music doesn't exist. Composition is hard work so even if you don't like it, it would be nice to say "Hey I congratulate you on your piece".
I'd like to thank Ana Vidovic for the great performance and Marcel Pruijt for the superb filming at the Zuidlaren Guitar Festival. Thanks to everyone involved! Rex Willis...PS: For any guitarist's interested, it's now published.

@MrBikeiro it is indeed a tremolo piece. According to Ana , she prefers to use i and m rather than a,m,i.

@MisterWhatever200 Wow... that's incredible! Anyway, this is great. Great piece, great performance, no matter what's the fingering... : D
Regards.

@MrBikeiro haha. yeah. I couldn't agree with you more. Everything is just beautiful. The music, the guitar, and the performer. HAHA. cheers man! :]

Guys, this is EXACTLY what I'm saying! This piece is very good ONLY if you watch it being played. Especially by Ana.
IMHO, the music itself did not bring it here for me. Sorry.

Sure. No problem.
Try this: watch?v=t9r-xPNhEJE
After watching, turn away, play again and just listen. See the difference? Thought so.

Explain "Junk music".
Willis is actually a really good composer...not saying that you don't like his music.

Music that sounds generic, or relies on cheap effects.

Her guitar seems to have powerful voice and very playable. Anybody knows what kind of guitar is it?
TONISMG 2 years ago
I guess the "powerful voice" you mention couldn't have anything to do with the fact there is a mic 6 inches away from the sound hole?
