The witch's character was decent enough- you know, for high school. I also thought she kind of went out of character when she paced around during the song, and her voice didn't seem very "bitter" enough. And the acting on everyone else's part (i.e. Cinderella's "no") wasn't at all met to par. Personally, my high school performance of this show was above. However, the notes were really good and the voice was fantastic in itself. I think if the character development improved, it'd be amazing!
Although her voice was good, she didn't develop her character that well during the song. She went flailing around with her cape when she should be angry and scared at the villagers for hiding the boy. The circular walks that she did kinda took away from the scary atmosphere of the song.
@Libbstaa Yep. She said "You're so pure (blah blah blah)" and the original is "You're so good, you're not bad you're just nice." or something like that...
This is by far the best vocal of this song i've seen that wasn't professional. Can't believe it's from a school production. Seriously girl you have to go into musical theatre, talent like that shouldn't be wasted!
Wow, what a wonderful voice! When I was in drama, I used to hate girls with such talent. As soon as I saw them auditioning, I knew I'd be getting villager number 3, lol. Anyway, very well done.
i think that was kind of the point, since in the end of this song the witch is supposed to 'vanish' so they just clouded her in a ton of smoke and had her slip off stage. this is similar to how my school did it but we had her descend through a trap door, but some schools don't have that luxury so they do something like this instead
that was really good! the only thing i would have change was making her "And the gloom, and the doom, and the booooommm... CRUNCH!" I would have made the crunch much stronger.
those are from the revival with Vanessa Williams. i dont know why they didnt use all of the changes, they only used that paragraph of the song. look up last midnight revival, and youll see what i mean
well the original musical (before the editing in the previews) included the witch singing ot the baby "you're so pure but give it time and you'll mature...." and the consensus was that it was too disturbing for the musical so AFTER the previews it was changed in the book to fit a more "acceptable" fashion and has always been BUT the broadway revival brough the lyrics back as it fit the interpretation better.
What was the point of using the revival lyrics? "I'm not good, I'm not bad, I'm just right" is an iconic line for the Witch.

I thought it was good until she started flailing her cape. And the scream at the end was just a bit awkward.

Her voice is stellar however I think her acting is a little poor.

those were the original lyrics that were changed because they were considered "too disturbing"
dramadrama6694 2 years ago
these lyrics in this video were too disturbing? so the ones on the actual soundtrack with bernadette were "edited?"
