dont be mean to the person who made this video because i totally agree with her and she might have not been so experienced. i care about animals alot and i know alot about them. i approve her message.
@animalz223 I didnt actually breed Pippy myself, she is one of my many rescues and was the horrible result of a certain UK pet chain store's continuous irresponsibility. :(
I am a roborovski breeder anyway and have spent 2 years researching the breeding of them so that no mistakes will be made and the litters will always be healthy, stong and the parents very well taken care of. Roborovskis cant be hybridised anyway so there is no risk there :)
@MarielizGarcia3 You are a very irresponsible owner to take such an ignorant attitude to the dangers you are putting your hamsters in. Did you know you could kill the mother by hybrid breeding? Did you know that the babies can be born without eyes and teeth and that you will have to have them humanely euthanised? Do you care? I am putting a link in the description of the video so that you can see all of the horrible dangers you can put the mother & babies in by breeding hybrids.
my hamster is hybrid too its mother is a russian hamster then the father is syrian hamster then the baby is a energetic syrian hamster it is small too cool
@MrYuu18 Im afraid that that is not possible. Syrians and Cambells cannot breed at all because they have completely different numbers of chromosomes, the ONLY hamster species who can be bred cross-species are Campbells and winter whites. You have clearly been lied to I am afraid :/ What you have is a typical hybrid, the WW crossed Campbells.
@MrYuu18 But thats the thing, it cant be true because its not physically or biologically possible. :) No matter how many Syrians and Campbells you put together (this would be daft anyway as a syrian would kill a campbells) they cannot breed. It is the same as trying to breed a cat and a dog together, they are different species they cannot produce offspring. A syrian has 21 pairs of chromosomes a Campbells has 34 pairs therefore no matter how much they mate they cant have pups. :)
No, Erin is right it is not possible. you HAVE lied simple fact or the person that gave you that hamster lied to you. and also as Erin said a syrian would eat/kill a campbell maybe next time tell the truth? :)
@JAndRHamsterVideos Woah Jack, we shouldnt jump in with the "You've lied" quite so fast, I dont believe this person realised that these species cant breed. Lots of people on sites like gumtree & craigslist sell hamsters under the wrong name & say that they are eg syrian crossed campbells because more than often they have bred together two hams that they did not know the real species name of. Try not to play the blame game so quickly, you dont want to upset/offend people :)
@Sarahskook Shes going through a rough time again right now, hence why there have been no videos of her for a while. :/ She's been chewing her legs to the point of bleeding and has lost a lot of hair from stress. I think she will pull through though, she is very strong :)
I bought a male hamster that looks like a lil bear. I'm thinking on getting a female , same kind. But if they have babies ima keep them. He's more than 6 months bcuz is really big! HOW CAN YOU TELL HOW OLD ARE THEY?? I asked the girl at the pet shop and she said that she didn't knw :-/
@sexcbaby18 There is no definite way of telling their age I am afraid, & it sounds as though you own a Syrian hamster. Please dont get a female, Syrian hamsters are solitary & will kill each other if you force them to live together, you also must not let them breed you have no idea what their genetics are & whether either will carry the 'white belly' gene. If they do babies would be born white with no teeth or eyes and you will have to euthenise them all. Never breed pet shop hams.
she looks like just like my hamster!! he's a hybrid too and nope, I won't breed hybrid :) in fact I never breed hamster. cuz i dont have time for it :p
Ohh it looks like my hamster not a cuter animal than dwarf hamsters aspecially cambells and atleast you look after her did you breed her parents and got her ?
@leongreen2002 Oh no, I am very aware of the dangers of breeding out hybrids. :) I bought her from a very well known UK pet shop, they are notorious for selling unhealthy animals and hybrid hamsters which they call 'Russians'. I don't breed hamsters yet but I will be breeding roborovski dwarfs in a few years. I have been researching their genetics for a year but with a recent rescue Syrian I have I don't have the space for breeding yet. :)
@ErinsHamsters all the hamsters i have bought from my pets at homes are fine and all my friends hamsters have been fine maybe its your area or my area that sells certain health problems or ok health ? i dont know
@DwarfHamsterify It says in the video that most hybrids are perfectly healthy (apart from the risk of developing diabetes) I didnt say all pet shop hammies will have neurological/health problems. :)
The reason so many people are raising awareness is because although it may only effect 1 in 20 hybrids its still a risk that can end up with horrible results. Breeding two different species together never ends well anyway.. :(
@2001sunset You will need to find a hamster breeder, if you live in the UK they are very easy to find just search for the National Hamster Club, they have a list of the best breeders in the country :)
If you live in main Europe or America Im afraid you will have a much harder time but there are still many breeders out there. For those who breed animals it is their responsibility to get parents from a recognised breeder. Those who dont are irresponsible & put the animals health at risk :/
oh my goodness my hamster that i adopted was like that he would have fits where he bit pritty much everything but himself so now im worried that he was a hibred but he's passed away though i think he was three he was suposably a syrian
@MyAnimallover2011 I'm very sorry for you hamster :( If he was a Syrian he could not have been a hybrid but neurological problems are still just as likely to happen if the hamster was inbred (which is common from pet shops) so you never know :( He lived to a nice old age though, three is a very good age for any species of hamster to live to :)
A very touching, factual video. She is a beautiful hamster and it's such a shame she has to live each day with these attacks. She has such a lovely home with you xxx
I agree, if you want any sort of pet you should look around and see if theres one who really needs a home, all pets in pet stores will get sold off quickly but there are thousands of pets in shelters or on the streets who need a home, or people who no longer can care for theirs so they need someone to take over
I have a hamster (not a dwarf though) that has a similar problem to pippy, can you please email me at littletiger16@live.com with hamham as the subject, I really really need some advice
what a beautiful video! ... i agreed with everything and tbh im so prioud of u!!:O.... i can see that ur trying ur hardest and giving her all you can xxxxx welldone<3
i breed hamsters and i have one female that has put out 3 litters(2 weeks ago she had her third litter of babies). i got 5 from someone who was giving away his hamsters for free on craigslist and i found babies not long after. i breed because they are cute, so what?
@xxxbustedsoulxxx As long as you are keeping all of those hamsters and not giving them to other people it is fine. The reason breeding 'because its cute' is bad is because the ONLY reason people should breed is for healthy hamster lines. There are hundreds of hamsters needing homes in shelters, if someone wants a cute hamster thats where they should get it, we dont want to just keep bringing new ones into the world that are not perfectly healthy and very well bred. :)
@ErinsHamsters i have sold one hamster out of all the ones i have i have like 11 now thats including my latest litter. i put mama back in with the boys. i hope to get at least 1 more litter before i decide to retire.
im thinking about breeding hamsters i was a few monthns ago but i decided to let it rest for then and now im rethinking it(ive got all the information saved so i dont have to study it all again) but i was wanting to know how do you get to know their family history?......also recently i got this hamster called fluffy....she coudent stop chewing her feet :( eventulay the damege was to much and i decided what was best for her....we put her down at the vet....it was the best thing to do
@MegaMcc10 Thats very sad to hear I am sorry for you and Fluffy :(
As for the family history the only way you can get it is by buying your hamster from a breeder as they come with a pedigree of up to 7 generations! :) This includes the coat colours of the hamsters so that you can see for instance if your ham carries the white belly gene that way you dont risk breeding it with another white bellied hamster and getting the eyeless white babies.
@MegaMcc10 She is from Pets at home & sadly this is all to common a case with their animals. Many people just assume the pets are naturaly aggressive when usualy they are sufferers of neurological problems & P@H buys their animals from 'legal' rodent farms. They are not called rodent farms but this is what they actually are as they breed from the mother animals over & over & over until she dies, then the babies are sold to P@H for £1 each when they are only 2/3 weeks old. Its horrible :(
@ErinsHamsters theres a pets at home near me(so i probs wont be getting my hamsters from there again)but theres also a local pet shop 1 of the small 1ns would that be better(also my hamsters eys are messed up so i kno how it feels):(
so sad.....but u keep helping her its, u r giving her a hope.....:) I was thinking about getting a male hamster for my female hamster (syrians) bcoz i felt she is lonely & i thought its not bad to have pups but now I'm scared.....What if i get another female hamster? Will they fight or anything?
@YoungLadyA Thank you. :) My first point, Syrians hamsters CANNOT live with other hamsters. They will kill each other, so really there is no need to breed from your female as all the pups will have to be put into their own separate cages. Im worried if you did not know this as it would mean that you are not ready for breeding. If you do a LOT more research then you could consider it but I still wouldnt. The only reason to breed is to keep a healthy line going no other reason. :)
@ErinsHamsters I thought about it and now I'm defiantly sure that i won't breed her....:)) Maybe later i may get another cage with another hamster :))
Now i'm scared for my 2nd hamster i'm gonna buy i wanna breed but i'm worried
I wonder if 1 Male Dwarf Hamster and 1 female Dwarf Hamster can give birth.......Now the other thing i'm worried is i will have baby hamster and father and mother scared they will eat the babies How do you prevent eating them?
@TheSandals123 Well if you really want to breed you need to do research for at least 3 months and buy your hamsters from a breeder not a pet shop. Just before the babies are born you need to remove the male so that he doesnt get the female pregnant again. One thing worries me, you say 'dwarf hamster' but do you know what species of dwarf you want to breed (Winter White, Campbells and Roborovski) if you dont know the species very well then please dont breed. Please. :)
So Sad.....I had the same thing for my first ever hamster...Now i'm carefull... I'll do anything to recover and hamster illness....And Btw I keep Crying I hope she will recover.... Much Love Sincerly
