This is worrying, because mosquitoes are a large part of the food chain. A small decline in mosquito population could lead to a much larger decline in those that feed on it, and an even larger decline of those that feed on those etc etc. Small perturbations in lower levels of the food web can seriously affect the higher levels. You're talking about seriously hampering the food chain on an extremely large scale.
