The boat was the first steel hulled, diesel powered vessel for the Coast and Geodectic Survey Survice (now know as N.O.A.A, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association). She did all the sounding for the charts of Alaska and the Alutusian islands. She looks like a trawler style boat, with a fantail and plumb bow, very 1920's (she was built in 1929). Think USS Potomic (the former Presidential yacht now in Oakland, Ca. Google it and check her out).
