He had to say 'boys' so he could set up his lyric to rhyme. What else is he going to rhyme with 'toys' besides 'boys' that kids will understand? Ploys? Coys? Joys? Enjoys? Buoys? Soys? Seems to me he had to say boys to make it relevant to kids. If toys rhymed with girls, I bet he'd have said girls.
