    Yesssssssssssss!

  • Comment removed

  • Love it, can't leave it.

  • @ mmariaasea i think the principle of a hipster still exists---for the whites that listened to jazz, or the faggots that listen to this shit

  • How did the hipster burn his mouth? He ate the pizza before it was cool.

  • oh look a hipster band with a million hipster comments

  • this shit kicks dick

  • "This song hates to fuck with my brain in such a slutty way".

"If this song was a vagina, I would be eatin' her every other sunday out of my elbow".

"If this song was a penis, I would implant it on my forehead every week for school day"

    Yeah I said 'em first....!!

  • @carlitoswayvideo Nonsense comments you usually find in youtube when a song is simply awesome. I have a few more...but I reckon you are not interested in.

  • @vivelavidarocka dont be gettin all hipster on me

  • First time listening to these guys. Digging it so much.

  • they make sound like no other.

  • it's good fucking music.. the fuck do you care if it's a so called hipster or a fucking baby listening to it.. gahhhhhhh

  • THIS SONG IS SOOO SLUT!

  • @NewHomeMovies That makes no sense what so ever.

  • like this and i swear i will sing this at my school tommorow during the prep assembly or when ever

  • Robert Plant younger replacement????

  • titties

  • SA Martinez sent me here, and i'm glad he did.

  • This shit's the Sex indeed !

  • man, you dumb hipsters sure don't know how to enjoy music

  • @VoreGawd23 If you knew the meaning of the word hipster, you would know this would be considered "hipster music". -.-

  • @JudoChopPlox I agree! A hippicat (now refered to as ''Hipster'') is actually an nickname for white american teens that loved jazz (the kinda jazz played my black people). The 'hipster' evryone talkes about today aint even a real hipster! it's so funny how people really have NO idea what hipster really means :') They jst think it's guys with moustaches and hats.. LAME

  • @MMARIAASEA Maybe that's the original meaning, but it's been adapted for the modern era. "Bitch" is just the word for a female dog, but it's still been adapted to have a different meaning. Words can have more than one meaning.

  • @MMARIAASEA Hi, I'm a hipster. But not the mainstream kind >:O

  • I hate people that call people hipsters if they haven't been listening to this one band the very very very very very very first day they ever ever ever ever ever came out out DAMN!

  • In some ways I like this song... But I must say it's annoying.

  • @underscor3 mate i wouldnt exactly say that i get rele pissed off with alot of the trendy modern crap but this band are incredibly interesting, with mental time signiture an tempo changes its great

  • @AuT0maTe1 Haha, that was actually a joke, I adore this band.

  • @exhalethepast '

Thx! can't wait to see it :)

  • @exhalethepast

well thought-out response -- yes, apathy just is an excuse for laziness (and everyone does it) -- there's nothing like a secure cozy life to take away the urgency of dealing with anything, and conversely, nothing like a corrupt regime to energize people to push for reform.

Ha, re integrating art forms, my son is putting on a production at the DC Fringe Festival: Pascal's Aquarium, a meaning-of-life puppet musical set in a fishtank - talk about pastiche - but well-recieved

  • @exhalethepast

No, I'm 56, so behind the times (though one cares less & less) - but: what does America, the world, people in general, need these days? It's hard to run to the future when the consequences of the past are tangling around one's ankles - do we need a resurgence of educated political debate at a neighborhood level? A formal multi-faith organized synthesis of the virtues common to the major religions? National health insurance? More bicycles? Hard to see the path...

  • @exhalethepast

good, I have a reference point at last :) -- no let's see, hipsters used to be ravin' rockabilly cool cats, and beatniks were urban sophisticate cool cats -- is there a place for such personalities and attitudes these days?

  • Blissful chaotic sounds.

  • I can't listen to the Dirty Projectors without a satisfied smile on my face.

:D <--- That's what the smile looks like.

  • people who don't like Dirty Projectors are total beatniks

  • "hipster" as a slang term is about 60 years old - what does it mean now, in reference to this pair of singers?

  • Sometimes I love Dirty Projectors. Sometimes I hate Dirty Projectors.

  • My boss just turned me on to this cd last week and a brotha is HOOKED!!! thishitisHOT.It's Rock,HipHop,Retro...there are Soul elements and a definite homage 2 XTC. I haven't heard anything this unique in years, this is a must.

  • hahahahahahahaha! there is no winning the "hipster" argument. there really isn't. If you say hipsters have good taste in music, they say you are one, if you say you aren't.. well, that's exactly what a hipster would say. Haha, maybe we're all hipsters.

  • @knfield Who said hipster have good taste in music? I have one and I'm not one of them. They like anything that is new. They like the new bands only because they're new, not for their quality. They loooove to hear "no" as a response when they ask you "have you heard of ....(fill in with the newest one)"?

  • it's good music PERIOD!!! why you had to be so... ????

  • this has to be one of the most pretentious bands going

  • Comment removed

  • @Upnorth789 nah

  • This this this this this this this.

This song reminds me of THIS. It was a scene from Labrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connoly. The scene with the red bird things who remove their body parts. Listen to the song they sing. In a very strange way it's similar to Cannibal Resource.

  • @foozybearz I totally hear it

  • This song reminds me of a Jim Henson inspired movie I watched when I was a kid. I don't remember the name or the plot but there is a point where there are these little red devil looking things with floating heads and they are tossing them around to each other while scaring the crap out of the hero, and they sing a song while they do it. I don't know how or why but Cannibal Resource reminds me of that scene and song, even though I can barely remember either. This song is brilliant. Something new

  • getting upset about being labeled a hipster, makes you a hipster, just sayin'.

  • @TheFunnybunny1230 AAAAARRGH IMMA HUNT U DOWN I DO IT CUZ ITZ IRONIES

    lol jk.

  • I've been listening to this band since before I knew what a hipster was; I couldn't give a shit what other people think. It's innovative, interesting and above all just great music that anyone can appreciate, so stop saying someone is a Hipster (which by the way is the vaguest of all modern stereotypical terms) for liking good music and appreciate the genius of this awesome band.

  • @VonnegutFrusciante No shit, right? I'm 32 years old and I've been listening to "hipster" music since I was 11. Not once did I ever hear the term. In January of this year I signed up for a YouTube account and holy shit, what do ya know? Everywhere I fucking look is this dumbass term, label, stereotype. It annoys the living fuck out of me. Why can't I just be Kim, an amazing, laid-back, cool as fuck chic who listens to the greatest and most significant music in existance. I hate fucking labels!!

  • @31makimba Just saying, but you what you said right there is so hipster.

  • longstreth god bless you

    you're brilliant , i love your music

  • arguing on the internet is like running in the special Olympics. even if you win you're still retarded

  • @dcsabe Yes! This guy gets it, I even feel slightly retarded for even venturing into the comments section.

  • @dcsabe

Because that repeated "witty" poorly structured shit excuse for a meme isn't terribly run down to the ground. Nope, not at all. By the way how is 2006 working out for you? Still on AOL?

  • @terrachan no, you're right. you win.

  • Julian Casablancas made shit music

  • oh relax everyone it's just music

i didn't like animal collective or other so called "hipster bands" the first time I heard them, but then i listened to them in social situations with other people and decided to give them another try

this band brings back really good memories for me and reminds me of being out in the sunshine

  • these guys will give me nightmares

  • This guy's one of the greatest composers of all time.

  • pƒuneRards

  • Cool. Check out all-girl band Stealing Sheep who operate in similar territory to the 'Projectors: youtube.com/watch?v=-VYO0DHYMvg

  • im going to sample this for a shitty rap song! muahhaha take that hipsters!

  • FUCK YES

    this song is perfect

  • Just read a reference to this band in a book i was reading and decided to Google them. I'm glad I did . There's just something about this band that's kinda like addicting.. It's so easy going and just enjoyable to listen to.

  • THIS SHITS THE SEX

  • this song/ band i so easy to get, unlike other bands, i just love it

  • Hey everyone who sucks, shut thee hell up and just enjoy the music. (:

It's really worth while if you do.

  • This music is THE. SEX. No strings attached. Stop quarrelling and enjoy the sound.

  • Seeing them live is AMAZING especially in a small venue :) had a great time. I must say im by far the hippest 15 year old at my school, damn proud of it too.

  • not bad...

  • I dont understand why people make such a big deal about hipsters..... this music is good... damn good...

  • @ZcSoldierRS I think its the fauxhemians who follow "hipster" bands people hate so much. It's a common misconception that most people make. People who can't do will always find a way to put one who does down.

  • @ZcSoldierRS it's music... i don't wear supposedly ironic tshirts; i don't have a supposedly ironic beard. i just like this awesome band

  • @VonnegutFrusciante As do I!

  • @ZcSoldierRS its just those few people that always bash on me cause "I shouldn't be listening to music they listen to" because its "their thing"

  • the purpose of music is to express what words cannot.

    shut up and just listen.

  • you can't watch a DP, animal collective, local natives, bon iver, etc. video without arguing comments using the word "hipster." I think it's all of us lamenting our own failures. the people who make the music are the only winners. now go shop at urban outfitters. and i'll join you.

  • What's with this band? They are with the feds.

They are enticing you to be "out there"

"Let's see who's into cannibalism or who is angry enough do what they want."

Who are the intellectuals who will stand in our way?

Look at bands differently today, there are cooperative efforts in place at our farmer's markets, our librarys and coffee shops. The books you buy, what you listen to,watch, consume are all taken into consideration.

This is not to say that these girls aren't dangerous.

  • what is it about this style of music that makes everyone fight by talking all intellectually n stuff... eff this im going back to Gaga's videos. atleast they are nice there >.<

  • this stuff HEALS me!

  • why cant everyone just fucking listen to the music without making a big deal about who does and who doesnt like them? just appreciate the music and grow up.

  • @conchamelon That's fine in theory, but understand that a laid-back attitude like yours is great on some occasions, but there are also occasions in which it is necessary to analyze something, and some people find it just as enjoyable as listening. I can understand it being annoying, but completely writing off analysis of something purely because it can be enjoyed and ignoring the facts surrounding it is counterproductive and all too common. Feel free to enjoy, I'll feel free to discuss.

  • I jizzed a little. I came here (no pun intended) because of Joanna Newsom, who I still feel is better. ;)

  • Their sound is very Progressive. No wonder a lot of people don't get them. Bill Brufford, (of the Prog bands Yes, King Crimson, Genesis) once said: Progressive music is not suppose to be popular. This band is not a typical Prog act per say, but their instrumentation and harmonies are very on the far left of the popular musical spectrum..

  • buy some nice speakers.

  • I wish I liked this band. I think I could, because I like the rhytms and melodies. But every mix of every one of their songs I have ever heard just sucks. The highs go through me like an infant's wail. Who produces/engineers for them?

  • @orchidtender

I saw them open for Phoenix at MSG and those high notes are even worse live. I don't like to hate on bands, but really, if I could have walked out, I would have. It was bad.

  • @orchidtender Yeah, I can see their sound turning some people off. I can't get enough of their shit, they do magical things to my eardrums.

  • @Capndanger yeah, It happens sometimes, I get the same thing with the Postal Service. Just something in the mix that doesn't agree with me. Of course, I'm in my forties, so maybe they have some subsonic jammer designed to alienate old farts.

  • I'm a metalhead and I love this!

  • @IceReverie meee tooo! from meshuggah to king's x to audioslave to baroness to house/electronica music to the dirty projectors... isn't that what makes us creative humans so great? : )))

  • @yumberri Totally! It's fun being musically open-minded! :3 P.S. I totally dig Meshuggah! I <3 Perpetual Black Second and Rational Gaze, lol!

  • I'm not confused by this music... its beautiful and very well done. I love the little surprise pops of background singers :)

  • First time a friend of mine heard this song, he said: "there's a song you can recall nothing of, after you've heard it"

  • Comment removed

  • @PorroFirst that means its not catchy or predictable...

  • @rubbersoap Maybe, but I think it's catchy once you get into it. Maybe that's not the definition of catchy, but I do like challenging music. First time I heard TV on the Radio's new album, I was left with nothing, but now I just think it's straight up rock/pop. Same must've gone for Beatles' Revolver era back in the day.

  • @PorroFirst

Good point, but the whole definition of being catchy is that it is easy to remember after just one listen and gets stuck in your head immediately. This song definitely did not get stuck in my head, where as anything by ke$sha can't get out of my head. I wish it didn't work like that because I'd much rather have this in my head than we aree who we areeeee.

  • i absolutely adore this song.

  • funky. I love it:)

  • this sounds like modern led zeppelin

  • @alpengeist19 Agreed.

  • This song is like taking a bath in losion.

  • Sounds like the vibe you can hear on Pogo's "Alice" remix.

  • i wanna say this reminds me of talking heads, but id be telling a lie. to be quite honest I can finally say that I havent really heard anything like this before, and I fuckin' love it.

  • @shatnersizeme87 That's a great answer.

  • @shatnersizeme87 Dirty Projectors are the most innovative and original band on the planet right now. And that is a fact. Animal Collective? No. They're like the Beach Boys of the 21st Century - it's an updated sound. With Dirty Projectors, like with Jimi Hendrix, any INFLUENCES pale in comparison with the towering originality. Jimi died before he could show all that he was capable of. Let's hope Dave Longstreth doesn't. Peace.

  • @PorroFirst jesus christ I can't fucking stop laughing, man.

Seriously? Is that SERIOUSLY what you think? Fuckin' christ man, they're just a band, and it's just music, get over it and like what's good, period.

If someone from that era heard you say Led Zeppelin was "deep," or "meaningful," they'd laugh in your face. You're clearly not from that era, so stop acting like you're the virtuous music historian with the answers to life and just listen to the music without stamping toes like a faggot.

  • @PorroFirst Man, do you really think Mike Love was using a Kaos Pad? Or Brian Wilson was writing lines like "...attractive day in a rubble of the night from before..." ...common! If the 87 in your name is your year of birth, then I don´t mind, I was talking similar stuff when I was your age...your comparing apples to grapes, and if you´re a grown man, that´s a really silly thing to do

  • they are pretty and this music is fantastic.

  • @Billy2097 i guess i understand...sure you have to understand music and why it provokes emotions..and which emotions for you to allow it to provoke....i know for a fact that i have great taste in music and that everyone may not be on the same level..only in MY OPINION am i better..that's all it's about really..no need to argue..we all have different opinions.

  • Awesome song, and awesome album artwork: different colors, different voices, true, yet seeing each other "eye to eye". this picture and the one with Nietzsche seals the deal for me, this band is something amazing making gorgeous music.

  • Love how you listeners of "real" music are claiming moral superiority over those who don't listen to independent when you're also saying "because you like this, i don't want to" music is not something that you have to understand, it simply provokes emotions, this is a great song and for me really works well when i'm stressed but knowing that people are using this as some sort of arguement that their taste is more superior to someone else's is really distressing.

  • @Billy2097 Maybe some people pride themselves in discovering, knowing and listening to real and only real music. such in my case, Some people live and breath music Which why is they take into offense everything about music.

  • The only reason people dont like this is because its "diffrent", there afraid to drift away from the mainstream and actually like what they like

  • @mitchell420SF

or their just dumb non-openminded people.

  • @orangeporanges True

  • You may not enjoy the music these guys are making but I'm in a band and we don't have 30,000+ fans. These guys do. They must be doing something right.

  • So awesome! I love the off kilter timings and wicked little harmonies, hand-claps, samples.......

  • This band is so fucking good I can barely control myself.

  • Just an honest question, why wouldn't anyone "get" this?

  • @chrisshavard exquisite music is not for everyone. be thankful for that.

  • perfectperfectperfectperfect

  • @DiscardedHarmony I agree

  • first!!!!!

  • To be fair, I can't even begin to understand it.

Then again, I'm still cleaning up the mess I made in my pants :)

  • I don't really care about the song as much as I'm upset at the people who comment saying those who don't like it don't "get" it. Come on, just because you don't like a song doesn't mean you don't understand it. People have different music tastes for crying out loud! And to be frank, this song doesn't have a really nice melody and it's not really easy on the ears. That's why people might not like it. Not because it's a really hard puzzle or something. -_-

  • @UberKiwix3 "Different tastes" is just a term for not getting it. How can you get something if you haven't followed one of the musical paths that lead to it developing your taste all the way? It *is* part of a puzzle, and you haven't found the rest of the pieces.

  • @robotnudist Not everyone is an ambitious musician, some people listen to music purely for entertainment and they don't care to develop a taste for everything. This may not be something you or I agree with, but it will never change, especially not through any efforts of your own. Some people's "puzzles," to put it in your terms, are complete at different stages, whether that's liking one band, or every single genre.

  • @parrothead1992 I wasn't talking about some sort of subjective puzzle, but the puzzle of music as a whole. There are tons of pieces and people explore their own sections, and some explore more than others. But if you encounter something that doesn't fit in your section at all, then you don't "get" it, and why would you get it? You don't have the connecting pieces in place.

I'm not claiming to be a music expert, but I do think it's valid to say "you just don't get it".

  • @robotnudist You have a point, it is valid that it's just not intended for some, but saying that people "don't get it" usually sounds insulting. It seems easy to tell who will warm up to something and who won't, but it isn't, trust me. You don't want to turn them off from experiencing this area of music by making them feel inferior. If they insult an area, by all means defend it, but do it in a way that leaves the area open for them to explore, or you're fighting your own cause.

  • @parrothead1992 Okay I agree with you that "you don't get it" is kind of insulting. But it's no good trying to explain to someone that "no, this music is actually good because this and this and this." Any defense is just going to be a more detailed version of "you don't get it" because it is outlining the ways in which they don't get it. And the only other options are staying silent (too easily taken as implicit agreement), and prescribing them preparative music (not exactly feasible on the net)

  • The chick in the right is fucking hot.

  • kind of bollocks, some tracks on this record are shit hot though

  • This is the greatest music in the world right now.

  • i don't really get all the hate, i think they're pretty good and this is coming from someone who listens to things that probably have 0 "hipster cred"

  • my replay button is officially broken.

  • This is one of Julian Casablancas favorite bands :)

  • @pollypocket242

This is one of TOSIN ABASI'S FAVORITE BANDS.

  • @ShadowArtistTXL I just discovered this from that interview aha

  • @ShadowArtistTXL That's the same reason I'm hearing this :))

  • @pollypocket242

haha just youtubed this band, after i saw an interview with julian :D

  • I bought this album... It was awesome... Then I left it in a rental car.... :(

  • This song is like a complex math problem that I can almost understand. Nevertheless, I've listened to it five times trying to get it, so I must really like it. I'm thinking of buying it.

  • What a beautiful bassline!!!! seriously!

  • @lasurubens it's for cred but it is good music so it isn't difficult to do

  • love it so individual and different

  • I love it i think the girls are amazing. its what makes them stand out from everyone else

  • haha sounds like a combination of Vampire Weekend, Beck, Of Montreal, The Velvet Underground, and Captain Beefheart

  • @wangsta25 Vampire Weekend sucks, I went to see Beach House open for them and I felt like I was at a Wiggles concert.

  • Not hating on the song, just think I would have liked it better with just the guy singing and not the girls.

  • For some reason I think these guys would have made more impact if they started in the early 90's rather then the early 2000's, people where so much more experimental in the 90's

  • @JMToneandonly

I love their experimental style, but it would be better if the vocalist had a stronger voice. I heard them live at NMF and they didn't do too hot that night

  • @lordblazer I completely agree, the music composition is amazing, but they should go in a different direction when it comes to the vocals. You heard them live! Not to good? Maybe they will be better at another gig.

  • reminds me of Bjork's Medulla a bit

  • @cassandradirt

    Was gonna say that.

  • I am becoming a fan of these ladies. First thought: Tragically artsy; second thought: Wait a minute, they can sing very well; Third thought: shit. I actually LIKE this. Damn.

  • This song was so sick..until the girls started singing

  • oh cool...more hipster garbage music.

  • @chotham01

It's unlikely that it would have happened as it did. The Beatles changed the face of pop music more than any other band before or since. If some other band would have done that, then one would think that another would have come along, but it really hasn't happened. Yes, Nirvana changed music in the 90's, that was basically 3 years and they didn't come close to the diversity of the Beatles' output. With that said, this album is incredible. Wish I'd heard of DP earlier.

  • People are scared and confused by this music. It's great. No one gets it. I love it.

  • @Cizcan oh you're so indie

  • @Museonaut Teehee

  • @Cizcan So what will you do when everyone "gets" it?

  • @zorgitron Hate it.
