A person definitely would die instantaneously if they fell in. Their central nervous system would be flash-fried before the pain impulse could even reach the brain. In fact, the only sound that an observer would hear would be a loud pop as the fluid in the body cavity was converted into steam and burst the victim's body open as it was carbonized. Definitely not pretty but there wouldn't be any screaming like in the movies.
