  • like the 1890's woke from the dead. way it wows you probably the same way they felt way back when.

  • Whats the pitch of the thread? Were you able to set the lathe gearbox or did you get creative with the change wheels? What kind of lathe was it machined on?

  • Bronze is a really nice alloy, you should make a big assed bronze wrench too!

  • Damm! Was that threaded on Helix? ;)

  • that guy sure has big nuts

  • Awesome!

  • that's nuts !

  • this is the type of work i'd like to get into. i prefer something challenging, always pushing my limits. then again, i can't really say i know too much about machining as i've only been a machinist for just over 2 and a half years now. oh the things i wish to tackle one day on a lathe...

  • I wouldn't cross the man who could swing the wrench for that nut!

  • No, that is just to machine the casting, it is not really the sort of job that can be done on a CNC lathe because of the 'feel' you need when machining this material because it is so tough, and tends to be bitey when the tool initially enters the job. And yes, it is a buttress thread, and the tool was hand made from a piece of solid carbide 25 x 30 x 6mm thick (which incidentally took about 4-5 hours to make).

  • Wow , Very neat stuff. When you say it takes a week to complete one nut , does that include the casting process as well? Wish we had that kind of work at my job. That is a buttress thread ? Correct? I like to see the tool that cut that thread. Neat stuff!

  • @joleenmorganjohn , Thanks for your comments, and no, it doesn't include making the casting either. It is a buttress thread, and the tool was hand made from solid carbide as I couldn't get anything like it from the tool reps. The tool took about 5 hrs to make. Cheers!
