  • mechanics in motion.. love the old iron.. new engines aint worth a crap... let a new engine sit for more then a month and you will have nothing more then a big paper weight. outstanding engine... world needs to resort to going back to them engines.. just my opinion

  • even gets better gas mileage than a prius

  • How efficient with fuel are these engines? Would they work for a third world country with little technological know-how?

  • @ASSEMblerEX If it was a third world country with little

tech know-how they need STEAM instead of diesel.

Diesel oil is expensive and getting more costly by the day.

A steam engine uses WATER and anything that will

burn to heat the boiler- coal, wood, trash, etc.

Last I checked 3rd world nations don't have a lot of

money to purchase and ship in diesel fuel.

  • @4freespeech Diesels will run on any flammable fluid you damn well want them to run on.

  • very good job sir.

  • great video. thanks for taking the time to talk about the engine a little bit. fascinating stuff!

  • made in America nice engine

  • What is the flywheel diameter on this engine? Can you advise the rim width and thickness? Fine engine!

  • 3:50 one cool starting method . I noticed guy left about 3:55 Maybe smoke got to him?? LOL...

  • That guy is the camera man :)

  • 1-10-09 hi guys. our fulton diesel is freeing up can almost turn it by my self, we are making progress. JOE

  • Very nice engine. Love the sound! Thanks for sharing. Fred

  • Likk your video, have you all ever had experience with fulton marine engines? I have a video on utube, fulton diesel, we have a restoration project and need help. JOE in Mississippi

  • Joe: Steve's never done anything with a Fulton, but he's knows diesels and may be able to help. Good luck!

  • Thank you for the reply, I have contacted fulton and had a reply. I am a diesel mechanic of the old school. This is the largest undertaking we have ever attenpted. The city took a head off it and we have rounded up all the parts. They tried to start it and had a detonation, damaged several start pipes, dirt daubers built in the det. valve and caused it to mal-function. Our club also has a 2 cly FM like yours and a 1 cyl. Chacago ph.

    Happy new year. JOE

  • Love the sound when u rev it!!!

Do they ever run for long periods sounding like they r revving hard?

  • the description says it idled for 50 years!!!

  • it needs some tuned exhaust.then it mite sound like the moto from hell!!..lol.

  • crank case induction!

No pre mix oil like petrol, so what lubes bottom end and what lubes cylinders?

is it total loss lube system?

how many exhaust ports in each cylinder, there looks to be about 5!?

    Nice!

  • Hey Valley, some engine...a gem!!!!

  • No premix - total loss - this is the earliest production 2-stroke diesel from Fairbanks Morse that isn't a hot-head. It represents the breakthrough technology to what we call "modern" diesel. Because it's total loss the cylinders are lubed by fuel, and the crank is lubed with a wicking system - oil is poured on a felt pad that is in direct contact with the main bearings. One exhaust port with 3 slots.

We moved it to the museum and you can see it run at Penngrove Power & Implement Power-up 2008.

  • Did they make a 4 cylinder version of this engine?

    Only diesel lubes cylinders?

  • My earlier description wasn't clear. There's an oil lube system sitting above the injection pump that was describe around 4:00. The engine is pre-lubed using a hand crank to supply lubrication throughout before the engine is started. It continues to be lubed during running.
