As an old mortarman that is a display of great imagination to try it in the first place , and very precise calculation, firing sequence and fuse setting to get each round to ignite at the right point on its trajectory.

It is interesting that an infantry weapon we nearly forgot has been resurrected by need once the shooting started. Simple but effective.
