This theory is rubbish.

If you understand US policy in the Middle East at all, you understand that this war was fought in a MISGUIDED attempt to permanently secure the flow of oil out of the Gulf. The world economy (especially because of the USA) completely depends on the uninterrupted flow of oil. Sadaam threatened the flow in the past (thus, the first Gulf War) and was, rightly or wrongly, still perceived as a threat to that flow. Iran poses the same threat. War, however, is not the answer.

I was raised in a Southern Baptist church and attended sunday school from age 5-14. You are absolutely correct. The Rapture is used to placid these people because generally life sucks, and if you believe the end times are going to be great for christians, and shitty for sinners, it gives them hope and comfort.
