  • This is art... It never gets old

  • The Mister Gromit The Man in the white dosn't fall over at 57sec. Strums the note for dramatic effect! The two are not the same thing?!

  • tribute to the music of the 80's

  • sooooooo beautiful, can't describe what this song does to me

  • saksofone...jeee..ee ♪☺♪

  • Mr. Knopfler is, was and is still one of my mentors. As I see it, a true inspiration as we trudge thru this ocean of invisible gases trying break thru to the other side of midnight..."Victory is @ hand" Long live Mark Knopfler wherever he may be!

  • hm nothing is too crazy

  • 4:54 Love the change in chord progression here...

  • Is that Data playing the guitar???

  • 00:57- man in white falls over XD

  • Heyyy Mark you are unbelievable ! How can it possible to play guitar melancholic like this....It's really amazingggg

  • shooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowman

  • zajiebiaszcze:)

  • One of my favorites. Nam V et. Easily idendifiable. Our government is vulnerable.

  • could listen to this all day long

  • @erzsebet11000 Me too:)

  • Perfection.

  • also i need a man

  • Outstanding version!

  • 36 persons shouldn't be here watching this video

  • 36 dislikes! You mean to tell me 36 rap lovers watched this? Only someone with no clue what real music is would dislike this.

  • @rimmyou69 Oh Yeah.. I'm In your corner...How can you know anything about music and not like this....Never mind..Let them play with their bricks...LOL

  • hiya Tell me your desires! Tell me the way you want me

  • Awesome rendition of a great song.

  • and now a pure head!

  • Wow! I thought those bars were just a video affect to a sound file, not apart of the show!

  • SHOW DE BOLA,RAPEIZE!

  • hiya i am from uk

  • I REMEMBER SEEING THEM IN 77 AT NEWCASTLE CITY HALL AND THERE WAS NO FUCKER THERE,TAPING MY FEET AND PISSING A CHAP OFF IN FRONT,THEN TOO THE MAYFAIR TOO WATCH THE POLICE ,WHAT A NIGHT :)

  • hahaha 4:43 is my favorite stage move ever now

  • I agree his long emotional guiter make me cry. He is one of the best for sure. Gilmour of pinkfloyd more versatile but Mark is more soul full...

  • @soumenb22

i would say they are equally soul full. and equally versatile. they are my favorite guitarists

  • i think im in love with dire straits...

  • slower version has more sorrow in it...but here guitar adds awesome dimension

  • 33 peeps wonder what the dislike button did.....

  • Nope. I do not believe this faster dance/party version is better than the slower one. It just does not make me feel Im at the river, dont feel the hot humid stiffling air, cant see myself crossing the river on a pipante, cant feel the enemy waiting camouflaged on the other side. Cant feel the message as I do with the other version.. Para nada papa... La otra me hace pensar en el avion blanco, los contras, y toda la situacion politica adjunta.

  • @doc3107lalima i'd second you on that. this is certainly a very nice and even great performance of that song in its own right, but the original one, the studio version is the 'true' one imo! it's as you say, filled with the 'humid stiffling air' of the Amazons ... it's as if one's on coke with just listening to the music and without even having taken any drugs for that matter! :)

  • Thanks for posting!! Ive been looking for years to find this :D

  • Is it just me or does anyone else find the "dancing" unnecessary and distracting? I think the music stands for itself. Awesome music!!!

  • @Tubetopfan1 Dancing's there to hype up the crowd, I will agree that Jack was a fucking tool though. Always found him and his faggy dancing aggrevating

  • @Thurzotron each to thier own i guess..... perhaps, just perhaps he was facking loving playing with DS!! lol

  • ive always felt that the dire straits held back on the recordings but live they let loose

  • You are an idiot. Do you actually think you're funny or original? Go back to your XBox before your mommy catches you on the internet!

  • politics as fucking usual, who is next??

  • so pink floyd

  • Also, it is an honour to be part of this generation.

  • Believe it or not, this tune has once softned a heck of a teeth aich. Something like I dunno, 20 years ago. May be more.

Now.. This is serious shit. Serious music. Wish I could say the same for the nowadays bands.

One of the tunes of a lifetime.

  • OMG....wait........wait..........the fukin paints man so GOOOOOOOOOOOD

  • for the thirty three dislikes your taste in music sucks!!!!!! these guys are great!!!!! i love them!!! our days of music we were blessed with the best!!!!! colorado!!!

  • This song definitely puts me in a good mood...:)

  • Wow!!!

  • He vuelto a escucharla tras mi post... Increíble versión!! Qué grande Mark!! Qué grandes los Dire Straits!!

  • Dire Straits have been always better playing live than in a studio - Amazing version of the song!!

  • @ernestobujaran

Have you ever noticed that the true greats allways sound beter live? It's the sure test of a musicians/bands talent.

  • @midnightelectric1 Very well said, and I totally agree with you.:)

The live performances of MK/DS so often stun me speechless with their awesomeness, this live version is one of many. I have always loved their studio albums, but it's their live performances have me completely captivated, make me fall helplessly in love with them. Mark's exquisite guitar solos are simply too stunning for words. Out-of-this-world beautiful.

  • Phenomenal perfomance. It is one thing to create something in a studio, where you can pick and choose the tracks that are best. It's entirely another to do it LIVE and pull it off so masterfully! Kudos to the Sultans!

  • They look soooooo 80s, but the sound is timeless.

  • Unbelievable amazing song! Thank's!

  • who the fuck are the 33 dislikes

  • 198??????

  • @Marquinhos32 On 26 April 1986. This concert was held in Sydney. (The Final Oz, Australia)

"Ride Across The River" is the first song played in this final BiA concert.

  • @avidbookreader - muito obrigado! hug de brazil!

  • all come down. imagine: Knopfler, Hendrix, Clapton, Kaukonen in one room. what do you think would happen? you think they would start to argue about, whos the best? 1. They all would imediatelly agree that Knopfler cant reach Hendrix style, Hendrix cant sound like Clapton and so on, but they all are unique and the kings of their own style. 2. you would hear the most amazing jam ever and stop talking, cuz you had no more words

  • Cannot live without listening dire straits.. For me no matter what, you are the best band ever !! I love you

  • Not sure who that is playing rhythm guitar there was 3 or 4 guys who played rhythm but man can he dance! Crip walkin way back in the day!

  • amazing song

  • @thepeterlong , yeah, they are great in their own way and I have enjoyed them, especially Knopfler (who in my opinion is much better as a compositor). But real guitarists play in another league. Just as an example you can check:

    v=9cadbYIzhqQ

    v=2oyhlad64-s

    v=_V3pggdG40Y

or this version of Sultans of Swing: v=OcdrVidwmPY

  • @juanfranlopez I watched those clips with an open mind. I truly did. And to be honest, they are all very good. But I must frankly say that those artists and their performances have no effect on me. No other guitarist can touch my heart and take my breath away like Mark Knopfler does. For me, MK is made of pure awesomeness. No disrespect to those great artists you favour, I suppose it's just a matter of individual taste. Anyway, thank you for sharing. Sincerely appreciated.:)

  • @juanfranlopez ...you said "real guitarists play in another league", clearly implying Knopfler isn't one of them? You HAVE GOT to be frikkin' kiddin' me! I mean, really, really kidding me! Even Clapton admitted getting intimated when playing with him. And Chet Atkins was very impressed with him. Surely, that says something?

  • @Marikit777 knopfler is in the conversation

  • @Marikit777 knopfler is in the conversation. he covers more styles of music than any other hands down...

  • @juanfranlopez Besides, in addition to what Marikit777 says, you are comparing two different genres of music. And do you mean to say that what Mark K doesn't play "real" music (I am not sure what you mean by "real")? In that case, all guitar greats (the likes of Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, etc) have wasted their lives trying to play their heart out.

  • 32 persons have no life and should kill themselves.

  • Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Chris Rea are among the best guitarists ever !!!

  • knopfler is the greatest guitarist ever, I spent many a happy hour hitch hikin to this music when I visited the USA in the 80s...It just so went with where I was and what was going down!!!

  • first time I heard this version I got shivers up my spine! great melodies coming from I don't know where. Mark invented unpredicted melodies for the solos. Great!

  • Is there an CD version of this concert? They simulcast this when I was about 12 or 13 or so...maybe 14, and I recorded it on cassette, but of course its gone now. I really want this on CD.

  • if Beethovenm mozart or Tchaikovski had electric guitars this is what they would sound like.

  • Knopfler shows why he is a master musician and songwriter. What an incredibly great song. I agree it is the best version ever of this song.

When one speaks of the greatest guitarists of all time, one has to include Mark Knopfler.

  • @rhwestwood Any thoughts what this song is written about? He's pretty deep.

  • @AschersOil It is about soldiers of fortune, or mercenary soldiers who fight for anybody for money.

  • @rhwestwood I just made a connection. Sir Mark is jewish born shortly after the holocaust, his father anti-facist would be faithful in keeping those traditions. The Lyrics coincide with the book of Joshua when he leads them across the Jordan River for the first time. This song begins and ends with the blowing of rams horns which are also used throughout Joshua to signal men into battle. It diffenitely about warriors.

  • @rhwestwood

I'm addicted, to: Money for nothing, Walk of life, and Sultans of Swing.

  • Knopfler shows why he is a master musician and songwriter. What an incredibly great song. I agree it is the best version ever of this song.

  • Terry Bozio on drums?

  • Chris muthafucking White

  • As classic as any Beethoven, Mozart or Tchaikovski in my opinion. Possibly even more powerful in terms of the story this, and most of thier other songs tell. I can almost see those mountains when I listen to this. Helps that where I am currently living I can see some out the window of course haha.

  • Man these guys can play their instruments .....YEAH !!!!!!!!!

  • Great quality, great band, great song...GREAT POST! Thank you Granada

  • Mark Knopfler qui a fait Dire Strait

  • I can't get enough of Dire Straits! The 80's was hot!

  • Ha, ha, FM104 Triple Logo for simulcast. I remember the night this was on - around Easter on 1986. Taped it on betamax (yes, a $900 clock), watched it and listened to it thousands of times and eventually put onto VHS. Thanks Granada28 for posting. Top quality. I still think this is DS in their best form ever!

  • Hatn bisschen was von Jethro Tull

  • omygod his voice <3 <3

  • Cocaine! In the 80's I snorted cocaine and listened to this album through headphones. Was that right!?

  • and.. why the hell did he stop playing suhr guitars?

  • guybrush threepwood on guitar =)

  • IMO a cover does not have to be a copy of original song, the cover maker may add own style which will make the cover more interesting. as far as this cover, a great job indeed, and talking guitar riffs, awesome. coming from an MK long time fan, I will say I LOVE IT !!!

  • Great song!

  • little know fact. mark help bob dylan with one record and its a pretty good record in the 80's i think its called infedels. i like it quite well. you can find videos on bob and mark playing together in a studio
