this debate is great, but sort of silly. Washington IS Owned by Wall Street. Many past presidents, from FDR, to JFK, to Woodrow Wilson, to Andrew Jackson, to Abraham Lincoln, have all dealt with this issue, and in several cases, they themselves were dealt with the ultimate blow - murder. Second, everyone here should google "grandfather economic report." and spend a few hours reading it. The United States has been a nation in decline for many many decades, only now everyone else knows about it
The 'Blame Washington' team, while on the correct side of the debate, did not make the appropriate arguments. Excessive credit made available to avoid a recession in '01 was the big culprit.
Agreed. Their arguments were certainly a tad weak. Schiff and Rockwell would have killed this debate. And certainly left the poll for the motion at 80%.
Thanks for posting this excellent debate, IntelligenceSquared.
Giving each speaker 7 minutes to speak uninterrupted, followed by a moderated Q&A session, is a perfect format for civilized debate.

Lincoln most certainly didn't betray Wall Street. He started the nations third central bank.
Andrew Jackson, and to a small degree JFK are the only ones that you listed that stood up for freedom.
