Winston Churchill was a hero!! One of my favorite political leaders... I am not a huge fan of Obama, but I don't think he's done a particularily bad job.. he's just young and set goals that were nearly impossible in America in the financial state we're at now.
i cannot see "change happening" because when they get in power its the money behind the throne that rules the throne. Strange i was think of Henry V when you mentioned great oratators
yes obama is the first black president for america, however inspirational his words may seem, many people are in uproar at the idea of a coloured president, his mother was white btw, i just wonder how long it will be till he is assasinated, probs not long if you go back to kennedy days, but hey, we must give him a chance, and btw, adolf hitler completely eliminated unemployment in germany, but people dont want to look at him in a positive light so things like that get forgotten, so long.
Thank you so much for your wise and insightful thoughts on Obama and his election. As an American, I feel hopeful about our country's future for the first time.
The double entendre of "summon up the blood" is obvious, yours or mine. But I don't understand which double entendre you are referring to? If you could answer I would appreciate it.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Or close the wall up with our English dead. In peace there's nothing so becomes a man As modest stillness and humility...
I too wish him well. After 8 dismal years, I will again be able to hold my head high and be proud. Of course, the damage done during the last 8 years is monumental and getting us out of this mess will take enormous skill, but I am hopeful. Isn't it ironic that we ask a black man to clean up our mess??
Hi mammothmouse: Of course, he's a black man; that's just one more reason for him to be proud. He has broken through the ceiling, and isn't it wonderful? He even calls himself a "mutt" which shows that he has a sense of humor too. So refreshing to have an intelligent man in charge, for a change.
I am appalled with all the Hitler comments. Ask someone who lived under Hitler what it was really like. Has Obama talked about needing "breathing space" like Hitler did to get an excuse for taking over all of Europe, and very nearly the world? Has Obama rallied us against a race and our dissatisfaction with a world war? Yes, Hitler was elected democratically, but does anyone think that, even if he were to try to exterminate 6 million people, that the media would just fail to notice it?
Yes, Yes, go back to writing the stories. There is nothing quite like hearing one of your stories being read to me. I do adore them so. This was a happy surprise, to see you chuckle, with that wistful look on your face. Oh I do love you :O)
he hasn't done anything yet. Give him a couple years and we'll see what happens. If he can pull us out of some of the current problems, he'll be a hero. If not, there will be alot of whiners who say he has not done anything lately for them.
It was a treat to hear your own opinion of our next President.. I hope he does a good job; indeed will ALL will be watching to see what his first moves are.
"You see, the challenges we face will not be solved with one meeting in one night. It will not be resolved on even a Super Duper Tuesday. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We are the hope of those boys who have so little, who've been told that they cannot have what they dream, that they cannot be what they imagine. Yes, they can."
whoever told anyone in this country they can't have what they dream? Everyone is sitting around "hoping" instead of just "doing". If you can't make it in the US, you might as well pack it in and move to a south pacific island and live on bananas and coconuts.
Obama has given people hope for the future with his words and he has a tough road ahead because he inherits the legacy of poor leadership of the past. It is a challenge and somehow I think he is up for it. Jacquie (UK) x
Everyone who knows me knows that I was a Hillary Girl...That being said, when asked by Hillary, I voted for Obama. At first, I didn't think he was ready... Was I wrong!
European socialism has gone too far as well. Hopefully Obama can find a middle ground that curbs the excesses of capitalism and while keeping its incentives for work and productivity.
...People have to remember is that Obama not only has to lead a nation 24/7 he has to be a father to 2 beautiful girls and husband to a beautiful wife also. Ferguson of the LL Show made a great point that it's stupid to put all your hopes into one person, they're a human being, they're going to let you down.
His orator skills were his 'upper hand' in his campaign. His ability to link and deliver words inspired masses of people to listen, remember and themselves, deliver on Nov 4th.
I have declared (well around my house at least) that this is 'third time lucky for Americans' and compared to their much loved game of Baseball '1 strike 2 strikes 3 strikes YOU'RE OUT!' and I believe they've hit a home run with Obama. For generations his people, his descendants have been told 'No, you can't!'
It's amazing how oratory skills can make people follow you and how rare it is that that you find someone who can capture an audience like Obama (and others) have done.
There is no doubt it will be an historical moment(for the U.S.and the world) when Obama takes office in January. I do not agree with his liberal agenda nor did I vote for him(yes I did vote). I was not thrilled with the McCain choice but that was beyond my control.
Only time will if he can back up his oratory skills and photogenic smile with action. He has no record of achievement in my opinion. So we'll see if he lives up to others like Roosevelt,Churchill, Kennedy and Reagan.
If you ask me, Obama is the most risky candidate for an assassination: he's black and he's democrat. An absolutely dagerous mix! I wish him all the best, but I don't want to be in his shoes! Not for love an money. May God bless him.
i could not vote for Obama despite is oratorial skills which are mighty. He DOES give wonderful speeches, but i was unsure of his positions behind the lovely words. He has, however, been chosen and i will gladly give him his chance and pray that, at the very least, he does no harm. But he deserves his chance.
i trusted mcCain but he could not move people and, while Palin was exciting, she scared too many.
We now live in the age of Obama and pray we do well...
He wasn't just a great orator. He had a better economic plan than McCain. It's true, the lesser of two evils is still evil, but when it comes time to choose Obama was the better choice.
There is no question of Obama's oratory ability. What is at question is how closely his oratory matches his past brief performance as a law maker. There is an obvious difference in philosophy.
So even though the oratory is exciting, it is impossible to know what his actions as president will be like.
i voted for obama! woo hoo! it's funny, his detractors tried to use his oratory command against him: "he gives a good speech" as if being intelligent & articulate were mutually exclusive of being a successful leader!
we tried having a bumbling imbecile for the past 8 years & look where that got us! i say bring on the intellectually curious!
I am a registered Rep. but voted Dem. I wasn't crazy about either candidate but Obama was the lesser of two evils.I hope he'll do well for my country. He can speak well but not personable with the voters, I felt. I wanted Hillary who was a fairly good speaker but more down to earth.
Hitler was the best orator in history. One man who started off as a tramp managed to climb up to gain the love of all of Germany, to inspire his people to do such hateful things. Obama is a dangerous individual, and America will soon learn that.
You're just studpid. You know who was also a great orator? Winston Churchill. FDR. Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy.
Not to mention that the political ideologies of Barack Obama and Hitler are COMPLETELY opposite. I'm getting really sick of this claim by conservotards. Come up with a new argument.

too many people think obama is going to make america a socialist country, and i am willing to bet that 90% of those people wouldn't even be able to define socialism
I disagree with obama on several issues when he presents his side! but now that hes in, I guess he gets a chance to prove himself. I only hope he is better than how he seems!
first question i have to you peter is..why do you care? does america have the power to change your lives..overe there? or is it just wanting to hurt the usa...for once. dont think that i am a total conservative..no i dont believe in god..and find a few things very wrong with the republican party..but i think that the reb are better ....Obama will not be able to make things better for usa ..or US, HERE IN THE USA. what is it you like so much about him? compared to bush?
Obama will help the USA about as much as FDR helped the USA after the Harding and Hoover administrations had their ways with it as if it were a cheap whore. Sort of like what the Bush Admin and the Republicans did in their little "revolution" of pillage and burn economics for the rich.
Obama will never be able to make things better for America in your mind because you've already dismissed him as a cause for change. Is it too much to ask for you to keep an open mind and judge him by what he does, not your pre-conceived notions on how he's going to fail at everything he tries to do? Give the guy a chance.
After the rise of tensions in the middle east due in part to 9/11/01 we can't afford to have a bad leader in the White House. So I am hoping that Barack will be a great one even though I disagree with him on many things.
How nice to hear the reference to the Henry V speech. People sometimes dismiss the importance speeches by leaders, but they can help tremendously, like the Churchill speeches. I cried through Obama's speech on election night, feeling reconnected to my country. And while I never liked Rudy Giuliani as NYC mayor, he said what we needed to hear from a leader on 9/11. (Especially since our president didn't take on that role.) During times of crisis, we need our Churchills to help keep us strong.
I really think Obama is the best thing for America right now. Hopefully he does well. You're such a fantastic man. I have very much respect for you and I enjoy your videos so much.
I truly hope he does have the ability and steps up to be a great president. Right now the usa needs all the help it can get with a proper leader to make sure it's done. Nice to hear your thoughts on this Grandad.
It's interesting to hear your take on Obama, Peter. It's beginning to feel as if the whole world is watching us, and the concensus is that they see in the man the character and abilities that caused people like myself to vote for him. There's much encouragement in this. If the world is with us, and is with Mr. Obama, then perhaps we really CAN pull ourselves out of this pit we've been dragged into.
Your feeling is right. The world is watching. And I agree with Peter. Obama's ability for giving speeches that touch and encourage is admirable and not all leaders have that ability. Power of words is amazing but of course you need action to follow it to be a truly great leader.
America finally took a step into the light. Obama has a mess that he inherits due to the evil Bush regime,so it will not happen overnight but I think in a few years we can at least get back to being the America that we used to be. Good vid Peter..you exude class my friend.
Obama is just another politician. Obama, McCain and all of the other corrupt politicians in Washington who voted for the 700 billion dollar bailout of the corporate crooks on Wall Street are going to run America into the ground unless the people stand up and tell them to either stop the systematic robbery of the American taxpayers or be run out of town and be replaced by someone who will.
I lost the vid at 1:08. I'm disappointed i want to hear your opinion on the world-effects of America electing Senator Obama. I supported his candidacy.
Open geriatric's profile can still see video there he did say "and thats when I decided that I must kill him" but was totally none related with Obama.. dunno if thats something to do with it. Hope you dont get in trouble with the feds!
Yes, there's nothing new on the face of the Earth though, is there?
I think Obama is going to be fascinating because he is the first ever black President.
His wife is really smart, they appear a nice family. Although I don't personally agree with his politics, as a person I think he is likeable and additionally, he is young which is maybe a prominent factor. Why are American Presidential Candidates so old anyway?
Your video appears to have run away (perhaps to the USA?)
He's going to be fascinating because he's the first black president? Tell me, what sets him apart from all the other presidents except for his skin? That's all this election was focused on: Race. I was sick of hearing it from the beggining, and I'm even sick of it more - from the black majority deciding to vote in this election because there was a black candidate now, to CNN talking to the NAACP about MLK and Malcolm X and all that other crap. This was the most ridiculous event I've ever seen.
Don't discount older leaders. In this video we hear about Winston Churchill and he was 66 when he became Prime Minister and 81 when his last term in office ended.
Not all the greatest orators were good people; take Charles Coughlin for example. Not trying to draw a correlation but it should be noted that Obama's economic policies are dangerous. Nevertheless he is a good orator.
first ever black president (as on 20th of Jan) and the first ever black world champ. in Grand Prix.
it reminds me a couple of years ago when my brother said to me after Tiger Woods won in Liverpool the Open, and said "the best golfer is black, and the most famous rapper is white (Eminem)" quite interesting times we live in.
The thing about Obama is that if all he is famous for is being the first black president, it will be kind of a waste. He should be famous for doing something great.
The only question I have about Obama, is will he be the uncle sam to the people, or uncle tom to the corporations. Let's hope he's for the peoples interests and keeps his words.
I disagree with him saying he's black. His mother was as white as I am. But I guess it's easy to forget one's mother when you're aiming to rule a large nation.
I am still so happy that Obama was elected. This is so exciting and sends out the message that anyone can become President. True Democracy. The man is also extremely intelligent and I believe will become the best
Yea, anyone..illegal immigrants included. So exciting. Extremely intelligent...I have a higher IQ than Obama, does that mean I am qualified to be president...probably not.
Lovely Peter! Yes, I think most boys that age would have had a similar response. Great story. I can see the first sentence now; the reader would know the story will be interesting but have no idea where it's going. :) Thank you for the good wishes regarding President Elect Obama. We too have high hopes but no envy for him in the many difficult challenges that lie ahead. Perhaps he too will go down in history with Lincoln, Kennedy and FDR. As you so well knows, his results impact all.
Winston Churchill was a hero!! One of my favorite political leaders... I am not a huge fan of Obama, but I don't think he's done a particularily bad job.. he's just young and set goals that were nearly impossible in America in the financial state we're at now.

Bush put us in a very low place in both the US with the problems here and also how the US is seen in the world.

Comparing Obama to Churchill is a bit unfair.
HustlinFlo 3 years ago
I truly hope he does have the ability and steps up to be a great president. Right now the usa needs all the help it can get with a proper leader to make sure it's done. Nice to hear your thoughts on this Grandad.

It's interesting to hear your take on Obama, Peter. It's beginning to feel as if the whole world is watching us, and the concensus is that they see in the man the character and abilities that caused people like myself to vote for him. There's much encouragement in this. If the world is with us, and is with Mr. Obama, then perhaps we really CAN pull ourselves out of this pit we've been dragged into.
anmoose 3 years ago

Your video appears to have run away (perhaps to the USA?)
naughtystepUGC 3 years ago
